We have chosen the Columbia Valley as our venue due to its multitude of activities outside of the wedding, as well as our connections to the area.
If you plan on staying the whole weekend please feel free to explore the beautiful local area.
Located steps from the venue, this mountain offers multiple hiking trails and lookouts. For more adventurous people there are mountain biking trails strewn along the mountain, and at the peak a paragliding launch is used regularly. Please be sure to research the trails before you commit and be ready for the challenging mountain environment.
A staple in the valley, they offer kayak, canoe and stand-up paddle board rentals right on the main boat launch in Athalmer. They also offer guided, or non guided river floats from Invermere to Radium along the beautiful Columbia River Wetlands.
The crown jewel of the area. This lake offers a multitude of recreational activities including, swimming, kayaking, paddle-boarding and boating. The main beaches nearest to us are Windermere Beach, located in the town of Windermere, as well as Kinsmen Beach and James Chabot Provincial Park located in Invermere.
Located on highway 93 as you drive into the valley from Calgary. This beautiful spot includes a large naturally fed hot pool, as well as a lane pool and diving board.
For anyone who is an avid golfer there is no better place. There are many courses around the area to choose from including, Copper Point, Eagle Ranch, Radium Springs, and some further south in Fairmont as well.
The town of Invermere is a bustling small town in the summer with many different types of shops and boutiques to scratch your shopping itch. On Saturday's in the summer months there is also a local farmers market that showcases the many talents of the locals who call this beautiful place home.
The local ski hill runs its lifts during the summer months for anyone interested in hiking or mountain biking. The small mountain resort has a few restaurants and a golf course situated next to the beautiful Toby Creek.
Fairmont Hot Springs is a small resort town located to the south of Lake Windermere. There is another naturally fed hot spring located here as well as hiking and other recreational opportunities. Located right nearby is Columbia Lake. This lake is known as the headwaters of the mighty Columbia River. It is much less busy than its sister to the north, but is not any less beautiful. Be aware that many of the beaches are private and lake access is harder than Lake Windermere. The only public lake access is located in the town of Canal Flats on the south end of the lake.
There are too many activities to list here, like, zip lines, bowling, go karting and other things to fill your time. If you need any suggestions or have any other questions feel free to contact us directly!
