Because of our ages (well, Sarah’s age and her particular fertility constitution that she’s more than willing to discuss), we find ourselves planning a wedding and a family in tandem. We are currently in the beginning phases of IVF, meaning egg retrievals (one egg a month, as Sarah’s body can’t handle more than that) and embryo freezing. It’s been a year, to say the least.
Our goal is to implant in the fall, after our wedding. Of course, we know this is all up to something much larger than us, but, with the help of modern medicine and the best doctor possible, we’re trying. This process doesn’t come cheap, what with twice weekly acupuncture, herbal supplements, to-ing and fro-ing and parking in the city, not to mention the obvious costs of the actual fertility center and subsequent medication (how do we quantify the emotional toll, we’re still trying to figure out).
If you feel so inclined (and by no means is this obligation), the only relevant gift for us is supporting this next life step. There’s nothing else we need, really.
