We would recommend downloading "all trails" to familiarize yourself with the trails, elevation gain, state of the trail, and any closures.
Hikes we recommend:
Avalanche Lake: 5.9 miles. (Going- to- the sun road pass)
We would recommend this for beginners. This trail is one of the most popular in the park and will likely be packed.
Highline trail: 14.9 miles. (Going- to- the sun road pass)
This trail is an out and back. You can see the best parts of this hike by hiking in 3.5 miles and turning around. This is one of our favorite hikes on the west side of the park! You likely will see wildlife on this trail.
Hidden Lake (5.1M) and Hidden Lake Overlook (2.7M): (Going-to-the sun road pass)
This hike allows you the option to stop at the overlook or hike down to the lake. We recommend hiking down to the lake. The climb may look intimidating but it is not bad once you are in it
Our all time favorite hikes are on the east side of the park. If you have time to make this a longer trip, we would recommend staying on the east side 1-2 nights. If you are open to a longer day in the car, you can make the treck from Whitefish. It will take about 2.5 hours each way - we have done it plenty of times. Note, grizzly bears and moose are common on the east side of the park so be prepared. We recommend bear bells, spray, and to not hike alone.
Iceberg Lake: 9.6M (Going- to-the sun road and Many Glacier pass)
This is our all time favorite hike in GNP! It is a pretty easy hike as long as you are able to complete the distance. We did run into multiple grizzly's on this trail so please be well prepared.
Grinnell Glacier Trail: 11M (Going- to-the sun road and Many Glacier pass)
This is one of the coolest hikes we both have done. This hike is the most popular of those on the east side of the park. We highly recommend this if you are up for a challenge and long day on the trail. Bear and moose spotting are likely on this trail.
Cracker Lake: 12.8M
We have not done this hike as it is closed often due to bear activity. We plan to do this hike on Wednesday 8/21. If you are in town and want to join we would love to hike together!
This is just a handful of some of our favorite! Please reach out with any questions, the ticketing system can be a bit tricky :)
Spend the day hanging out on the beach
If you like horseback riding, this one is for you! Their Lake McDonald trail is the closest one to Whitefish.
To rent e-bikes and bike the Going-To-The-Sun Road
If you want to go Kayaking on Whitefish Lake
Great outdoor store if you left anything at home. You can rent bikes and kayaks from here as long as you reserve in advance.
For whitewater rafting!
