Our Story

What started it all

Selena and Trevor’s story began in the most unexpected place—at a local bar in Connecticut, where he was stationed during his service in the Navy. Selena worked at the local grocery store as a pharmacy tech. Although they passed each other all summer long, they never spoke a single word. It wasn’t until he finally worked up the courage to say hello that things truly began—only to be met with Selena’s signature sass, which admittedly scared him a little. Fate stepped in when they later found each other online, quickly realizing how much they had in common. They began spending time together around town, at the same familiar bar where it all started, and talking for hours about shared music, values, and dreams. Their first official date was at the breathtaking Van Gogh Museum, a moment that set the tone for the adventure their relationship would become. Soon after, Trevor relocated to Washington where he continued his service. Even with miles between them and no immediate plan to reunite, they stayed close, talking through long days and longer drives when he eventually left the Navy and made a two-and-a-half-week journey back east, stopping to visit loved ones along the way.Not long after, they saved up, planned, and moved into their first apartment together just one town over. Ready for a new chapter less than a year later, they took a leap of faith and moved to South Dakota, where life quickly filled with new jobs, new experiences, a new kitten—and, soon enough, an engagement. What began as a silent summer and a brave hello grew into a partnership built on laughter, resilience, shared adventures, and the belief that sometimes the most meaningful journeys start when you least expect them.

Q + A

Where are you registered?

We’re registered through our wedding website here on the Knot. We are not looking for any gifts, but just requesting help with our Honeymoon fund. Your love and presence mean the most to us, but we’re grateful for anything you choose to give.

Do you have a honeymoon fund?

Yes! Instead of traditional gifts, we’ve included a honeymoon fund for those who’d like to contribute our first adventure as newlyweds.

Where is the wedding taking place?

Our ceremony/reception will be held on a beautiful farm in Montrose, South Dakota, just outside of Sioux Falls. You’ll find the exact address and directions under the “schedule” section of our website

What is the weather like in August?

August in South Dakota is typically warm and sunny, with daytime temperatures often in the 80’s. Evenings on the farm can cool off once the sun sets, so we recommend bringing a light layer just in case.

Will the wedding be outdoors?

Yes, portions of our celebration will be outdoors on grass and gravel, we suggest choosing footwear that’s comfortable for a farm setting.

Are hotel rooms available?

Yes! We have reserved room blocks at select hotels in Sioux Falls for your convenience. Please visit the “Travel” section of our website for booking details and deadlines to receive the discounted rate.

Are children invited?
