Things to Do

THINGS TO DO/EAT/DRINK NEAR GERTON

Please be aware that Gerton was already a bit of a backwoods town with few grocery stores or restaurants before hurricane Helene. Business closures after the storm have amplified this. So, if you are staying out in the Gerton area, we recommend stopping at a grocery store on the way out to grab any essentials so you can embrace feeling "off the map" once you get to your accommodations. It's basically 15-20 minutes to get back to anything from Bearwallow Mountain.

Hike Bearwallow Mountain Trail: Note that this trail is still listed as closed from Helene but when we were up there in February people were still accessing and using the trail

Strawberry Gap Trail: If you're more of a rule follower, the strawberry gap trail is officially re-opened

Blackbear Coffee: For coffee.

Daymoon Coffee: Also for coffee.

Flying Cloud Roadside Farm Stand: A place to stop for produce and flowers—how sweet!

The Local Joint: Looks like the place to go if you need to get a very non-vegan fix

Whistle Hop Brewing Co: For a cold beer

Food Lion: The nearest grocery store to Gerton (1350 Charlotte Hwy, Fairview, NC 28730)

THINGS TO DO AROUND ASHEVILLE

While there is still plenty to eat/do in Asheville, I recommend checking restaurant hours and websites before you go anywhere since open times may be wonky for businesses still recovering from the storm. And make sure to bring the love to any businesses you do visit!

The Grove Park Inn in Asheville: Historic Asheville Hotel with sick architecture and views. Great spot for lunch or a cocktail on the patio. Check the reservation situation.

The Biltmore: Tour the Biltmore House, Gardens, and Winery.

Dobra Tea: Eastern tea shop with immaculate vibes and major tea knowledge. Shout out to Logan for introducing us to this place!

Rosetta's Kitchen: It's Asheville, so we're able to basically go to all vegan-only restaurants while we're there so that's what I can recommend. Rosetta's is on Lexington where there are several other fun food options.

Biscuit Head: It's kind of a thing.

Wall Street: This street is so cute and it has a few little restaurants, galleries, and shops along it to check out.
