Travel + Transport

Flights

Book flights to and from Entebbe, Uganda (EBB).

Major airlines that fly to Entebbe include: Brussels, Emirates, Turkish, Qatar, Ethiopian, KLM, Egypt Air, and Kenya Airways.

For US guests: Stef often flys Brussels Airlines from Newark, NJ due to it's short layover in Brussels and 2 manageable 8-hour flights.

Let Stef know if you need help figuring out the best flights to book. Usually it's best to book 4-6 months before travel, and usually not less than 3 months before travel to get the best deal.

Visas

Most guests coming from abroad WILL NEED A VISA to enter Uganda. To check if you are visa exempt, visit this website: https://www.immigration.go.ug/services/visa-exempt-countries

Single entry tourist visas cost $50 and allow visitors to enter Uganda once for up to 3 months. You must apply online for the e-visa and have it approved before boarding your flight (the airline will check that you have your e-visa and will deny you boarding if you don't).

Technical challenges with the visa website have been reported in the past and sometimes bureaucracy in Uganda can be slow, so we are advising guests to apply for their visas about 10 days before departure to ensure that any issues that may arise can be worked out in time.

Contact Stef immediately if you are having trouble applying for or getting the visa approved. She can contact people at the visa office for help if necessary.

Only go through this website for the e-visa:

Transportation

Getting From Entebbe to Kampala

Let Stef and Solomon know when you plan to arrive in Entebbe. We can help arrange transportation from Entebbe to Kampala (about a 45 min drive on a pretty good highway). This usually costs about $40 with a taxi, or we will make our best effort to be there to pick you up depending on the day!

Getting Around Kampala

Guests who arrive from abroad to spend the week before the wedding in Kampala can expect the following:

1) Uber works in Uganda, so have it downloaded and your payment method set to "cash" if possible, as drivers prefer cash.

2) Guests from abroad will ideally stay in the same hotel/area so that Stef and Solomon will be able to coordinate transportation to and from activities. More information about Kampala hotels + the pre-wedding week plan will be forthcoming.

Getting to Fort Portal

We will get to the wedding venue in two main ways:

1) Those who stay outside of Uganda/those who do not have their own cars will be included in a transportation plan. We will cost-share several vans to take people to and from Fort Portal and to ensure everyone gets to the wedding venue and back to their hotels within Fort Portal on wedding day. The per person cost of this transportation will be shared at a later date.

2) Those who live in Uganda and have cars will take their own cars, unless they wish to pay for and be included in the shared transportation plan.

Post-Wedding Transportation

Those who want to join in on the post-wedding safari trip will be included in cost-sharing vans that will take us on the trip. The price per person of this will be shared at a later time.

Getting Back to Entebbe Airport

Those who went on the post-wedding safari trip will stay overnight in Entebbe on Sept 12. We will help arrange transportation to the airport from the hotel (either free hotel shuttle, or cheap taxi/Uber ride).
