When do I need to RSVP by?
We are requesting that invitees RSVP no later than 15May2025. Our wedding capacity is too small to invite all of our family and friends at once and we would like a chance to notify others with sufficient time.
What language is spoken in Quebec City?
French is the first language spoken in Quebec City. A good portion of the younger generations know a strong amount of English, but this is less common with the older generations. You should not face any issues speaking English in restaurants or venues.
I am American, what should I use for paying?
We recommend checking with your banks and cards to make sure there are no international fees associated with using your cards abroad. TD bank cards WILL BE CHARGED INTERNATIONAL FEES (believe me I learned the hard way). If needed, you can check with your local bank about exchanging money for CAD.
What is the conversion rate of USD to CAD?
Best to Google since the answer fluctuates day to day but as of 08Feb2025 $1 USD = $1.43 CAD
As an American, what weird customs should I be aware of?
The liquor stores close early compared to the US and pepper spray is illegal to bring into the country. Please leave home anything that could be considered a weapon. If you are out shopping, stores tend to close early (5PM) except on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, where they will close later (7-9PM).
I forgot to bring some toiletries, what store should I go to?
Find the nearest Jean Coutu pharmacy (equivalent of a CVS) as they can be found all throughout Quebec City.
What is Poutine?
Poutine is a local delicacy that can come in various forms, but the traditional poutine consists of: fries, brown gravy, and cheese curds. It is absolutely delicious and highly recommended to those whom have never given it a try.
What are good things to bring back?
Favorite items include: maple syrup, maple cookies, maple candy, cassis jam, pasteurized cheese, alcohol, ketchup chips, all dressed chips, and Crispers.
What can't I bring back to the US?
The list includes no unpasteurized cheeses, no fruit, no veggies, no more than two bottles of alcohol per adult (18 years or older).
