“Located in the former Central of Georgia Railway Repair Shops Complex and Terminal Facilities, this museum offers family-friendly fun with interactive experiences including a working handcar, walking through historic railcars, and taking guided tours by train. The site features the oldest railroad repair facility buildings in the United States. These buildings, locomotives, and railcars tell the stories of site workers from over 100 years of the complex’s operation. Topics explored on tours and exhibits include railroad and technological history, industrial slavery, and segregation. The site also serves as an active preservation space where museum staff preserve and restore historic buildings, railcars, and related machinery.”
This is a great option for anyone who loves history or anyone with children! The museum is super interactive.
There are 3 Telfair Museums in Savannah! The Jepson Center is an art museum for children. They have many different exhibits and interactive activities for children and adults to enjoy! The Telfair Academy is a short walk from the Jepson center. It’s a mansion that was built in 1819. This museum has over 200 years of history inside! The last museum is the Owen’s-Thomas house and Slave Quarters. This museum is also very historic, detailing the poor conditions and realities of enslaved people and slave owners.
