Our Wedding

Tara’s version:

We met in Bentonville, Arkansas while working for Walmart. Damien had an open position on his team and ultimately hired a good friend of mine. Eventually, we all went out for after-work dinner & drinks. He was persistent enough to get my phone number. It took some convincing, but he finally got me to go on a date with him.

Damien’s version:

I remember one day in the office in Bentonville spotting this vision that took my breath away. Little did I know one day the stars would align giving me the opportunity to smoothly sneak into her life. Every time I saw her she made me stop in my tracks. All I could say was daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn…

My team ended being expanded and I hired from within. One day as I was pretending to work hard I looked up and who did I see, yes it was her. She instantaneously made me speechless. Well here it was the girl that had me speechless was friends with one of my direct reports, Lisa.

Every time I heard she was coming by I tried to always be present just to be in her presence… especially once I had found out she was recently single.

One day Lisa started talking about their planned evening so I gave a few suggestions and hinted to not having any plans. Then it happened - the door opened, Lisa invited me to join them. That’s where it all began….. 4 hours later I had a phone number and wasn’t afraid to use it.

From there I just kept on shooting - I got her to go out with me and that was it…. I now had the opportunity to be breathless day after day.

Restaurants to Try

Owen's Bagel & Deli - South End

Visit WebsiteOne of Tara's favorite Saturday morning outings for breakfast. A very casual spot - but they serve a great steamed bagel. It is located in South End (south of Uptown...creative, I know - but really, a great part of town) and parking can get a little tight, but these bagels are worth the trip!

Q + A

This airport is in town & close to the venue. The airport code is CLT. The hotels where we have room blocks will have shuttles to/from the airport. There are rental car options available at the airport, as well as Taxis, Uber, or Lyft.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport

The link to book a reservation is below. This hotel offers 24hr shuttle service to & from the Airport as well as our event venue. The phone number provided here is where you can schedule the shuttle. This discount is only good through June 20, 2018.

Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Charlotte Airport

The Renaissance is right around the corner from the venue. They offer shuttle services to/from the airport as well as the venue. I would like to note that they do charge $10/day for parking & they do not offer a complimentary breakfast. The link to book rooms are below.

Renaissance Charlotte Suites Hotel

The Light Rail is a convenient way to get Uptown. The address provided here is to the Scaleybark Station on South Blvd - one of the closer options to our venue. This is a good option if you aren't inclined to deal with parking in the Uptown area. We would also recommend Uber or Lyft if you don't want to drive at all.

Lynx Light Rail Scaleybark Station

DoubleTree is less than a mile down the road from the venue. They offer shuttles to/from the airport as well as the venue. If for some reason the Group Code does not automatically populate - be sure to enter it to get our discounted rate! It is: TRW The link to book rooms is below.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Charlotte Airport

This hotel is located in Uptown. We don't have rooms blocked here, but wanted to list other options that are in the center-city area. They would likely not have a shuttle to/from the venue, but an Uber would be super easy to catch here. There are lots of places to get to just by walking!

Hilton Charlotte Center City

Another hotel located in Uptown (there are a LOT more options than what I have listed here). We don't have rooms blocked here, but wanted to list other options that are in the center-city area. They would likely not have a shuttle to/from the venue, but an Uber would be super easy to catch here. There are lots of places to get to just by walking!

Holiday Inn Charlotte-Center City

Travel

Science, Nature & Kids Museums located in Uptown (what Charlotteans call their "downtown" area).

Discovery Place Science

There are a LOT of breweries in Charlotte, but this is one of our favorites. Most of the breweries do not have kitchens, however they do have food trucks. You cannot go wrong with a food truck. The atmosphere here is very laid back, come-as-you-are type of place. Highly recommend it if you have the time!

Sycamore Brewing

This is very close to the airport. Fun fact: The airplane that crash landed in the Hudson River in NY (Miracle on the Hudson) was headed for Charlotte, NC. The remains of the plane are here at the Aviation Museum.

Carolinas Aviation Museum

This brewery is closer to our wedding venue with good beer & food! Their 'biergarten' is a great place to take the family and grab a bite. Unlike Sycamore, this brewery does have a restaurant section where they serve their own menu.

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

There are two different locations of the Mint Museum. The location provided here is for the one in the heart of Uptown (again, what Charlotteans call the 'downtown' area). There are parking garages available, however, we generally will Uber or park & take the Light Rail (see note on the Light Rail in the Transportation section).

Mint Museum UPTOWN

This is on the southern edge of Uptown. There is also a Buffalo Wild Wings in the same building where you can grab a bite after taking a tour.

NASCAR Hall of Fame

A theme park with roller coasters, water park & various rides. It is located on the boarder of North and South Carolina.

Carowinds

This is a really fun outdoor experience. There are bike trails (you can rent gear!), various water activities (whitewater rafting or flatwater), climbing walls, jumps & zip lines. You can also grab a bite and a cold one for a break in between activities.

U.S. National Whitewater Center

Another museum located in Uptown. The 'Levine' name is from Leon Levine, the founder of Family Dollar whose headquarters is in the Charlotte area.

Levine Museum of the New South

For the Shoppers - the Outlet Mall is also near the venue (and the hotels where we will block rooms). This mall is outdoors - so be prepared for the heat when you come!

Charlotte Premium Outlets

Definitely the upscale mall of the Charlotte area, but it does have your typical department stores - Neiman Marcus, Macy's, Belk (headquartered in Charlotte & stores are generally located in the south), and Dillard's.

SouthPark

This restaurant has a great brunch. I'd recommend reservations though, because it can get crowded, depending on the time. You can make reservations through their website, but might have to call in depending on the party size.

Tupelo Honey

This is one of our favorite BBQ places. Consistently good food and they will have nearly any sporting event of the season on TV. They also serve a good selection of local beers. There are two locations in Charlotte, the address provided here is to their Steele Creek location, which is closer to the wedding venue. Both locations have nice outdoor patio spots if you're feeling up to it.

Mac's Speed Shop

One of Tara's favorite Saturday morning outings for breakfast. A very casual spot - but they serve a great steamed bagel. It is located in South End (south of Uptown...creative, I know - but really, a great part of town) and parking can get a little tight, but these bagels are worth the trip!
