If you are new to Houston, it's a great, big city with plenty to see and even more to eat! If you're planning on staying a few days, here's what we recommend:
Visit
The Houston Zoo is about a 10 minute drive from downtown and in a great area, with plenty to do for people of all ages.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is just next door to the zoo, in the museum district. The HMNS is our favorite.
Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is a beautiful place for a stroll and a great option for nature-lovers.
NASA: the Johnson Space Center is about a half hour from downtown.
Galveston is a nearby beach town with lots to see and do. Walk down the Strand, get a milkshake from La King's Confectionary, shop at local boutiques, check out the gulf from the Boardwalk, and get some great local seafood.
Shopping
The Houston Galleria is a gigantic, beautiful, and famous mall, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and indoor ice skating!
Rice Village is a quaint, walkable bundle of boutique and chain stores, along with lively bars, coffee shops, live music, and international restaurants.
Restaurants
Houston is a mecca of great food from around the world, but mostly known for Southern favorites, such as BBQ and Tex-Mex. Here are some of our favorites.
BBQ: Truth BBQ, The Pit Room
Classic Southern: Brennan's - originally from New Orleans
Tex-Mex: Los Cucos, the Original Ninfa's, Lupe Tortilla, Cyclone Anaya's, you can't hardly go wrong; just be sure to order beef fajitas wherever you go.
Seafood: Pappadeaux, Ragin' Cajun
