Activities & Tours

San Ignacio

The bride and groom encourage all guests to attend one of the group cave adventure tours on Thursday before the wedding. There will be 3 available tours, differing by difficulty level. All tours will cost $135 and you can signup on the RSVP page.

Difficult - hiking/swimming the ATM cave

Deemed the #1 Sacred Cave destination in the world by National Geographic, the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) will be one of the most enlightening, epic, and unique experiences of your life. There is a 45 minute hike to get to the caves, plan on bringing shoes (not sandals) that can get wet. The groom will be joining this tour.

Intermediate - tubing Nohoch Che’en Caves

This tour will begin alongside the easy group by visiting the Mayan ruin, Xunantunich. Guests will then continue to Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve for an amazing tour that offers a mix of river tubing, cave tubing, and cave exploration. Offering insights into the Maya civilization that once thrived here. There is a 45 minute hike to get to the caves. The bride will be joining this tour.

Easy - canoeing Barton Creek Cave

This tour will begin alongside the intermediate group by visiting the Mayan ruin, Xunantunich. Following the ruins tour, guests will continue on to Barton Creek for an exciting, yet relaxed, canoeing tour through a mountain on an ancient waterway. You will see numerous formations, stalactites, and stalagmites and experience what very few have seen before. There will be no hiking on this tour.

For those wishing to experience additional tours on Friday or Sunday, full day or half day tours can be booked directly with local tour companies.

Here are some tour/activity options with MayaWalk tours. Tricia and Nate know the owner, so we can easily set up some excursions with them. The main ones that we recommend are:

-> Cahal Pech Mayan Ruins - conveniently located right next to the Cahal Peck Resort! May be an easy one to do in the afternoon, when you return from another excursion, or on Sunday.

-> Xunantunich Mayan Ruins (Duration: 4-6 hours)

-> Barton Creek Cave Canoe Tour (Duration: 5-8 hours)

-> Ziplining in the Jungle (Duration:4 hours)

-> Hiking/swimming the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve (Duration: 8 hours)

-> There are LOTS of other tours available too - just be sure to pay attention to the duration and intensity level (some are a bit of a drive and pretty rigorous)

-> I also found this ATV/waterfall excursion that looked pretty neat

Tours offered on-site at the San Ignacio hotel:

Birdwatching

Green Iguana Conservation Project

Tea Tasting Medicinal Tour

Critters Of The Night Tour

Maya Fish Cooking Experience

Copal Spiritual Healing Experience

Also, Tricia and Nate highly recommend visiting The San Ignacio Market. It is open everyday and is a great spot for an easy, inexpensive, and local meal. Fresh produce comes on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Saturday is the day where you can get the most options of fruits, veggies, freshly squeezed juice, cheese, smoked sausage, breakfast, wine and clothing.

San Pedro

San Pedro has one of the best marine reserves for snorkeling and diving in the world, so we recommend scheduling a snorkeling tour like this one: Snorkeling at Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley. You can swim with A TON of nurse sharks in shark alley too - they're totally harmless and like to butter you up by swimming in between your legs for handouts. We call them the cats of the sea.

Reel, Grill, and Chill is another company that has great reviews for both snorkeling and fishing :)

We'll be planning a dive trip to the great blue hole too.

Also, feel free to come over to the Brahma Blue, where the wedding party will be staying, to hang out anytime! We will also be having a bonfire/catered dinner one night at the Brahma Blue to bring everyone together - more to come on that later.
