You know when they say you meet ~your person~ when you least expect it? Yeah, that’s when Peter and I met. Peter and I both went to college at UW-Whitewater however our paths never crossed (knowingly). Our paths were destined to cross when we matched with each other on the dating app, Hinge. Our first conversation consisted of Peter introducing himself and since he saw I was an orthodontic assistant, he slyly started talking about how he had had braces for 8 years.
After talking for a few days we planned a date to go kayaking downtown Waukesha on the Fox River (because I had a coupon) on September 5th, 2020. Peter arrived first and texted me "I am sitting on my car". I thought this was a typo and assumed he meant "in" in the car. When I pulled up sure enough there was this 24-year-old, super attractive guy sitting ON his car.
When we met each other in person we got so lost in conservation and ended up getting skipped while we were in line waiting for kayaks by people who landed the last kayaks for the next 30 minutes or so. We decided to walk around the river and talk instead which turned out to probably be better than kayaking.
We found out so many things about each other such as our NFL favorite team differences, our favorite flavor of ice cream, our career goals, what our families were like, and that it is a small world indeed (because we found out Peter knew my Aunt Lori and Uncle Chuck from his work at Carlin Horticultural because he would sell them greenhouses and other products). Our conversations seemed endless.
When our date ended we hugged each other and said our goodbyes. Peter said that he was interested in seeing each other again, and sure enough, we planned a second date for the following day. From there on out, the rest is history. We were inseparable, spending as much time together as we could.
Today we still enjoy reminiscing on how we met and the conversations we had. Every day we look forward to learning something new about each other, laughing, and loving each other. We are excited to see our love continue to grow as we grow old together and spend the rest of our lives together. <3
On the morning of 5/5/22, Peter woke up and said to me this is going to be one of the best days of our life! I thought he was implying that seeing the Grand Canyon was going to be the best thing ever. I was like yes, Im so excited to experience this bucket list item for both of us, together. We got ready and left to get our overpriced Mcdonalds breakfast. Looking back at it, Peter seemed a little different in the morning. That morning we realized I forgot to pack the shaving cream on our road trip. I was like who cares, you dont need to shave to see the Grand Canyon... You look great, as always! Little did I know he was trying to shave so he looked good for his PROPOSAL!
When we were leaving McDonald’s Peter was fidgeting with the cooler in the backseat and again, I was like who cares where it is? Peter ended up hitting his face on the car roof and I felt so bad. Again little did I know that he was so nervous because he knew he was about to PROPOSE!
When we got to the Grand Canyon it was breathtaking. So unlike anything we have ever seen before. We were in awe. We walked along the rim for a little bit and then found a cool spot to go and explore, once again, little did I know Peter was scoping out the perfect spot to pop the big question.
When we got to this little cliff we were just taking in the views and Peter started setting up the Go Pro for the best shot. I was thinking we were just taking cool pictures. Peter started a video and said, lets just take a video and we can screenshot cool pictures from the video. I was like good idea. So we were posing and then Peter goes, alright I think we got a lot of great photos, however, I think this next one is going to be the best. My heart and time froze as Peter started saying things that made my heart so full, my eyes fill with happy tears, and my body shake with excitement. When he got down on a knee, ring box upside-down and all, with all the love in my heart, crying and laughing, I SAID YES! We heard distant cheers and clapping in the background from people watching what was going on from other cliffs and the rim trails.
Peter’s proposal was nothing short of perfect to me. Although, he may say differently since he fumbled some of his words and held the ring box upside-down. But those are the things that I think made the proposal that much more perfect. It was so real and so pure... The best moment of my life. Never have I ever been so happy in my life to have Peter slide that beautiful ring on my finger, that only is a signification of the deep love I have for this man. The Grand Canyon had rules against taking rocks from the park, but I wasnt leaving without that one. <3
