Effective May 15, 2021: Governor Ralph Northam amended Executive Order 72 (PDF) easing public health restrictions and lifting the universal mask mandate to align with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The key changes effective May 15, 2021 at 12:01 a.m. include:

Face coverings: Individuals who are fully vaccinated (two weeks after the final dose of their vaccine) are no longer required to wear face coverings. Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals aged 5 years and older should continue to wear face coverings in most indoor and outdoor settings in accordance with CDC recommendations.

Social gatherings: The maximum number of individuals permitted in a social gathering will increase to 100 people for indoor settings and 250 people for outdoor settings. Social gatherings are currently limited to 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors.
