St John doesn't have an airport, so you'll need to fly into St. Thomas (Cyril E. King Airport), and take a ferry from St. Thomas to St. John. The ferry runs regularly, is quick, and affordable. It doesn't run all night, though, so keep this in mind if you're looking at a late flight. And keep in mind that you can't be guaranteed to get back to St. Thomas after the wedding at night, so staying on St. John is best for the day before/after the wedding.
The following airports generally offer nonstop flights to St. Thomas in May:
- JFK
- Newark
- Atlanta
- Dulles
-Charlotte
-Miami
- Philadelphia
From the airport on St. Thomas, you’ll need to take a taxi to the ferry dock in Red Hook to get to St. John. Please have cash for taxis as they are not equipped for credit cards. The ferry terminal is located at Red Hook (a thirty minute ride from the airport). If you would like to avoid multiple stops prior to arriving at the ferry to St John, you may want to consider hiring a private taxi from the airport. This works great if there is a small group of guests arriving at the same time. Our wedding planner, Tara, suggests Christopher Taxi Service at 340-643-5466. Contact them about 2 weeks prior to your trip to reserve. You will pay them directly. Send them your flight info and also a cell phone you will have with you.
Please check the ferry's website for up-to-date information, as ferry times and prices are subject to change: stjohnticketing.com

St. John, the smallest and most idyllic of the three United States Virgin Islands, is best known for its many white sand beaches, turquoise bays abounding in colorful corals & rainbows of tropical fish and endless vistas of green velvet hills. Only nine miles long & three miles wide, distinguished not only for its vibrant culture and history the island hosts the pristine Virgin Islands National Park and a wealth of other recreational things to do in St. John. TIP: Passports are not required for travel here, although you will need a passport if you'd like to travel from the USVI to the British Virgin Islands while you're there.
Rental cars are recommended to see all that St John has to offer, and may be necessary if you're staying in a rental home/villa. Some roads may be difficult to navigate, so a 4WD SUV or Jeep is recommended.
Taxis are not reliable forms of transportation for those renting villas. Driving is on the left-hand side on St John. Plan to book your rental car on St John, not on St Thomas. Many companies will not allow you to take a rental car on the ferry from St. Thomas to St. John.
There are many other US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands just a boat ride away. There are ferries that go directly from St John to Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada and Virgin Gorda (which are British Virgin Islands, so a passport IS required). You can catch ferries to St. Croix & Water Island from St Thomas. There are many tour companies and boat charters that offer day trips to these places, as well.
