Ari Rubin

Brett's kid brother, Ari, has been her Best Man since the day he was born. Though they’ve spent most of their adult lives living plane rides away from one another, they've kept close through long text chains, trips to Fire Island and Mexico, countless sporting events, and a love for capybaras. Ari might have followed in Brett’s footsteps in going to Cornell, but turns out Brett is following in Ari’s footsteps in building a life in Cincinnati.

Brian also considers Ari one of his Best Men. After all, if it wasn't for their friendship, Brian and Brett would have never met. When Brian was convincing Brett to move to Cincinnati, he may have played the "you'll finally get to live in the same city as your brother" card.

It worked.

Marc Sugerman

Marc, Brian’s older brother, has been guiding him through life. Sometimes for the best, sometimes just to take the fall. Sports in the backyard, board games galore, trips to Florida and countless calls of laughter, advice and memories were created throughout the years.

When Marc married Samantha, he unknowingly gave Brian the key to finding the right wife: Marry a Rubin. Yes, this will be the second Rubin/Sugerman Wedding (No, Brett and Samantha are not related). Brian looks up to Marc a lot and can’t wait to follow in his footsteps as a loving husband and father!

Justin Sugerman

Brian’s baby brother, Justin, has always been the little brother. Justin was dragged to Brian's soccer games and forced to follow Brian's lead. Now, Brian is the one following Justin when he visits him in the many cities where Justin's career has taken him (New York, Hawaii, New Orleans and Austin).

Brian loves the countless conversations about sports, betting, and meeting new people in new cities (Anyone have friends in Austin, TX where Justin just moved?). You may not get to choose your brother, but Brian hit the jackpot with Justin!

Samantha Sugerman

When Marc decided to move to sunny Orlando, Brian couldn't have been happier. Not only did it mean having a fantastic place to visit, filled with magical theme parks and endless sunny days, but it also marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Little did Brian know, this move would bring him something even more special—a sister!

Samantha, the first Rubin to join the Sugerman clan, seamlessly became part of the family. Whether she was tossing playful jabs at Marc, engaging in Monopoly battles, cooking up her world famous cakes and desserts in the kitchen, or providing Brian with sisterly insights, Samantha quickly became much more than just a sister-in-law to Brian. Add in niece Cayla, nephew Eli, and all the animals, Brian is always in for something special when he visits Florida and spends time with Sam.

Before there was B&B there was A&B: Ashley and Brett

Twenty years ago, in Ithaca, NY, Ashley moved into the Cornell dorm room next to Brett. They instantly hit it off, and agreed to live together the following year after only knowing one another about a month. During the next few years, their friendship only strengthened as they spent time in Ithaca, studied abroad in Europe, and moved west after graduation; Ashley in Berkeley and Brett in Vegas, each very "on brand" for them.

They've seen each other through A LOT these past twenty years, and Brett is so grateful to always have Ash in her corner. Brett is also very grateful that Ashley (and husband Joe) created “niece” Lydia and “nephew” Dominic, who light up Brett's life.

Julie Rappoport

It's rare to make such a close new friend in your mid-30s, and yet, Brett found Julie.

They met in early 2022 at a Jewish Federation "Shabbat around the City" mixer event. As it goes with these events, one heads in with low expectations (IYKYK), but a glimmer of hope that you might get lucky and meet someone special. Not surprisingly, neither of them found romance that night, but Brett definitely got lucky in making an instant friend.

Whether eating expensive take-out salads on the couch or floor, talking through personal and career goals, traveling to New York (and not traveling to Iceland), Brett is grateful that Julie always seems to "get it."

Baldwin Wallace College was a time of growth, exploration, and learning for Brian. While neither Brian nor Bryan truly remember how they met, they are convinced it was one of the many Elementary Teaching classes they took together. Admirably known as the Bri”y”a’s they made sure their schedules aligned for almost every class their Junior and Senior Years.

The bond these two created has been full of memories, both good and bad, but through everything their friendship has only grown stronger. The Bri”y”a’s left a mark on BW and Bryan continues to leave a positive mark on Brian.
