Dear Friends and Family,

Here is a video of Carson and Dan explaining all the following information! If you would rather read it, then please see below.

Effective August 25, 2021, the Mayor of Honolulu issued an Emergency Order prohibiting outdoor activities, and weddings of more than 25 people, until at least September 21, 2021 due to a surge in COVID-19 infections and cases on the island of Oahu. Because of this, we believe it is unlikely that the situation will change enough in time for us to still have our originally planned wedding, and we wanted to give people time to change their plans and make other arrangements.

However, we are planning to move the wedding to a weekend between July and September 2022. There will be more details to follow, and we will be sending out invitations (virtually) again to all who were originally invited! If you have concerns about making it to Hawai'i for the wedding celebration, please know that we are also planning a Michigan wedding celebration sometime during summer 2022. For both of these celebrations, to keep everyone as safe as possible, we will be requiring everyone to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Although Carson and I are dismayed that our wedding is being postponed, there is a silver lining to all of this and a very important piece of news to share with you all. We got married!!!! We have been married in a civil ceremony and are not going to wait to let COVID-19 tell us when we can begin living our married lives together.

We regret the logistical inconveniences we know this situation is inevitably causing, and ask for grace as the COVID-19 situation on Oahu rapidly evolves. At the same time, we want to assure everyone we are at peace with this decision and so thankful for your love and support. We are still very excited to share in our celebration of marriage with everyone when COVID-19 has died down and we can reschedule the wedding for summer 2022.

Dear Friends and Family,

We are looking forward to celebrating with you at our wedding on October 9 th at Dillingham Ranch in Waialua, Hawaiʻi! There are only 148 days to go!

Given the times we are living in, we wanted to share an important update with you. We are asking that all guests and vendors who are attending our wedding to please be fully vaccinated before arriving on island. This includes anyone eligible to receive the vaccine according to current FDA guidelines. If you are unable to accomplish this for any reason, we regretfully ask you to not attend any of our October wedding festivities.

Out of our deep-seated love of others, we want to create an atmosphere of hospitality within the confines of this global pandemic. At the risk of overstating the obvious, we take the responsibility of caring for the health and well-being of our guests and vendors seriously. As healthcare professionals, we have been on the front lines of the pandemic and witnessed the devastation that COVID-19 has caused. On a more personal note, Dan had a friend die after contracting COVID-19 and we do not want to take any unnecessary chances. Furthermore, we want to be able to enjoy our wedding to the fullest and worry as little as possible about the pandemic.

We also want to remind all of you that we are planning a secondary wedding reception in summer of 2022 in Michigan. Whether you feel ambivalent about receiving the vaccine or you would rather celebrate with us in Michigan, we hope conveying this information makes your decision easier. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and we look forward to hearing your response regardless.

Moving forward, we will send out wedding invitations again via our wedding website The Knot. This time, please take into consideration our COVID-19 protocol before RSVPing. If you are RSVPing “yes,” we are asking you to confirm your vaccination status. To do so, please fill out this form by July 9th.

We understand that the situation above may make attending our October festivities impossible. This deeply saddens us because we love and will miss you, but as much as we want to start our marriage with you present, we want you, our guests, and our vendors to stay safe more.

Thank you for your love and support. This has been—and remains—an extremely difficult time. We value all of the empathy and grace you have given us as we do our best to start our marriage in a way that does not endanger the lives of those we love most in the world. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.
