Travel Tips

Some traveling tips from a frequent transpacific and transcontinental traveler

1. Every couple hours (if not sooner because of your bladder) get up and stretch whether it is in the aisle or back in the galley (where the flight attendants hang out) OR do the ABCs with your feet to keep the circulation going.

2. Stay hydrated.

3. NEVER feel guilty for requesting to get up for any reason (if you’re in a window or middle seat).

4. Bring at least 4 things to do that you like or love that so it require a charge to keep you busy (coloring books, books, puzzle books, etc.). Switch off between watching a movie and reading to keep from getting bored.

5. Make sure to download your flight’s app because some of the planes don’t have screens anymore; they expect their passengers to have smart phones and their movies, TV shows, etc. are accessible through their app.

6. Bring headphones with a phone/audio jack cable (not just an iPhone cable). Don’t worry if you forget one, most airlines offer them to you.

7. Pack homemade sandwiches, breakfast bars, meal replacement bars, dried fruit, nuts, etc. to eat on your journey because airplane and airport food is expensive.

8. Carry an empty water bottle with you to fill up at stations in the airport.

9. Layer your clothing. You can always strip down if you get hot but the air can get pretty cold, especially if you’re flying on a red-eye flight. I always wear closed toed shoes, long socks, long pants, tank top, and sweatshirt no matter what time of year.

10. If you're not going to be in a rush when you land at your final destination (Honolulu), then check your second carry-on (usually your roller bag) if/when the gate attendants are offering to do it for free. The boarding process is so much more relaxed and you're not fighting other people for overhead space, especially when your boarding group is called near the end of the boarding process (like mine usually is because I fly CHEAP:D)

Hopefully these tips help make your travel experience at the very least more comfortable and at the most enjoyable!
