Here’s a list of places and activities to get you excited about enjoying the Mount Washington Valley. Keep this list in mind when you arrive! Some activities are just steps away from where you’ll be staying at Purity Spring, while others require a bit more travel. However, they all promise a great time, regardless of how long you can spend with us, and they all offer plenty of fun.
We’re planning to have some outdoor activities with everyone we love—for sure Thursday evening and hopefully on the island on Saturday.
A huge part of why we love where we live is because of all of our activities! These options are all our favorites, and we can’t wait to talk about them and we hope you check some off the list!
We hope you decide to stay right on site for at least Friday and Saturday! Purity Spring Resort is this pretty great spot that will make you feel like you’re in the movie “Parent Trap” at a summer camp but also provides some creature comforts as well.
Purity Springs offers the following:
Canoes
Paddleboards
Kayaks
Pickleball
Tennis
A Fitness Center
A lake side beach x2
A pool
A hot tub
Miles of beautiful walking and running trails
A cute spot for breakfast items and coffee+ cocktails and light bites at Traditions cafe, right on site.
While you are hanging out in our home, whether it be frolicking around the resort or getting up into the mountains and town, we hope you enjoy some of these activities!
We live in a biking mecca! Its been a big part of our journey as a couple to explore the great opportunities that one can have on two wheels in our home.
Below you will find our favorite options in the area for all sorts of rides. All options are 0-30 minutes away from Purity Spring. Road and gravel options can leave right from the resort’s front steps. For mountain biking you’ll have to drive about 15 minutes for Marshall (below) for the closest option.
You can find rental bikes of all types at White Mountain Ski Company (friend owned- give Squall a pet!) and Sun and Ski both about a 20-30 minute drive up valley from PS.
Gravel Biking:
Eaton/ Madison Loop (right from the resort- 10+ miles)
Mountain Biking:
East Side Trails: (xc- ride EKG to Side Hill to Swamp)
Ride NoCo Trails: These trails are our areas crown jewel. Caroline is on the board for the network, and Ben is one of the main saw sawyers and trail cutters for it too, they both work hard for this area. This area is mainly downhill, enduro type riding. Got buddies? Shuttle to the Black Cap trail head, leave another car at the base of Cranmore mountain and bike around the network.
Obviously we have to talk about some fishing spots!
A few spots:
- The Ossipee River (Wade Here) about 5 minutes from PS.
- The Saco River ( Wade Here) about 30 ish from PS.
- The Ellis (Wade Here) about 30 ish from PS.
- The Swift (Wade Here) about 30 ish from PS.
Carolines favorite wild brook trout fishery is the Sawyer River, due to storm damage in 2023, the road is closed. You can park here and walk up the road. Walk for a mile then walk down to the river. This is 3wt and under fishing. It is beautiful... you will be alone. This is a great spot to go to just explore as well. This is a 45 minute drive from the resort... only fish it if you are planning a week in paradise!
Also, another secret spot that Caroline will make known is the Sheperd River and its tributaries that are close by. The Sheperd River is known to hold some wild browns and brookies. Caroline likes to park here and walk up stream and fish for the wild ones... This is about a 10 minute drive from the resort. Who knows maybe you will see Caroline here early on Friday or Saturday.
We live in a pretty amazing place! We want you to think so too.
Here are some of our favorite walks, hikes, and trail runs. Each has it's own personality and skill level needed. There is something for everyone on this list. All these options are 5-45 minutes away from Purity Spring.
1. Foss Mountain- 20 minutes up- could spend all day on the great summit- very accesible path. The drive up requires a car that can handle some bumps. The view is worth it. (Eaton- 5 minute drive!)
2.Table Mountain -2+ hour hike (Bartlett- 30 minute drive)
3. Thorne Pond Trails- About 5+ miles of flat walking or trail running! (Bartlett-30 minutes away)
4. Peary Mountain-1hr+ (Fryeburg-20 minutes away)
5. Great Hill Fire Tower-30 mins up- Amazing views from the tower (Tamworth- 20 minutes away)
6. Drive up and walk around Cathedral Ledge -(North Conway- 20 minutes away)
7. Black Cap- 30-40 minutes up same down (North Conway- 20 minutes away)
In the area for a bit longer?
We love this longer jaunt:
The resort has a great little place for breakfast and coffee located in the “Inn” building. Look for “Traditions” restaurant.
Fun fact: one time when Ben and Caroline were camping on Ben’s dad’s land (look across from the base of the mountain and that’s the land!) they didn’t have enough coffee so they drove the John Deere Gator down to Traditions and had the best cup of coffee they’ve ever tasted.
We also recommend the Eaton Village store about 5 minutes away. A good spot for take out and sit in. They are open weekends 8-3pm!
We think that the valley has some of the best breakfast options in the country. We also really love a few of the coffee choices. For coffee a little farther but closer to our actual home in North Conway, the obvious choice is Frontside Coffee Roasters. This is 15-20 away.
For a quick and amazing pastry (the egg in a hole croissant) try Old Village Bakery in North Conway or for the best donuts try Leavitt's Country Bakery. These are 15-20 min away.
For full breakfast we'd say you cant go wrong with these choices (these are all 15-20 minutes away):
-Beas Cafe in Conway is one of the closer options, but is cash only, however a real local spot. (North Conway-15 to 20 away)
- Sweet Maple in Conway a bit closer in Conway. (Conway 10-15 minutes away).
- Sunrise Shack in North Conway (North Conway-15 to 20 away).
For lunch:
Eaton Village Store (Eaton-5 Minutes Away)
Cheese Louise (North Conway-15 to 20 away)
We love that we have some wonderful options in the area for food and drinks. Below are some of our favorites.
Drinks:
- Maxs Pub at the Snow Village Inn...sometimes pricey but the view and vibe is wonderful- call ahead and sit on the porch or bring a blanket or grab one of their adirondack chairs for the lawn out front. (Eaton- 5 minutes away).
- Tuckermans Brewing (Conway- about 10 minutes away)
- Craft NoCo ( a small craft cocktail bar) in North Conway Village. (North Conway-20 minutes).
- Alpine bar at The Wenworth (Jackson-40 mins)
-Ledge Brewing (North Conway-20 minutes)
- Saco River Brewing (North Conway's Tap House is 20 away and has a great deck with great food).
- Tamworth Distilling (Tamworth-20 minutes away)
Dinner:
- El Reparo or Jaliscos (the local spot! we have had many a dinner and marg here..cheapish and local- mexican at its greasiest and best- get the Jose Silver marg. Jalsicos is 15-20 away and El Reparo 30 min away.)
- Chefs Bistro (North Conway- 20 away.
- Flatbread (North Conway-20 away).
- 302 West Smokehouse (Fryeburg-20 away.)
-Wicked Fresh Burgers (North Conway-20 away).
- Tuckerman's Brewing is about 10+ minutes away and has great pizza. We also like The Saco River Brewing Taphouse in North Conway Village which is 20 minutes away).
Ice Cream:
-Bobby Sue’s Homemade Ice Cream (8 minutes away and amazing!)
-Trails End Ice Cream- (20ish minutes away also amazing!)
-Dairy Queen because none of us are above a BliZzard- (15-20 away).
Are you someone who enjoys hanging in the air on rock?
Then you are in the right place…get out there Friday and Saturday. Check out the store in North Conway- International Mountain Equipment, they will give you all the details.
Also, talk to Ben’s brother, Jordan. He’s the guy to know.
We do live in a pretty great place to shop... although we do it less frequently than other choices in activities.
Caroline loves the more local places:
- The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen
-White Birch Books
For Outdoor Wear:
-IME (International Mountain Equipment)
-Ragged Mountain Equipment
Just park near or around Frontside Coffee and take a walk!
