As we celebrated our 7th anniversary in June 2024, we had a wonderful opportunity to reflect on and share a bit of our story for those who may not know it.
We met like many modern millennial love stories—online! We often joke that we’ll need to embellish this for our kids one day, but we can blame David's parents for setting a high standard for how love stories begin. (If you’re curious, ask them at the wedding.)
We've experienced quite a few ups and downs in our relationship, and for those who have known us throughout, there were moments when we weren’t sure we would end up here. However, one of the reasons we love each other so much is our commitment to growing together, supported by a strong (and sometimes snarky) friendship.
We met while David was living in Nanaimo, and Tyler was in Chemainus, both on Vancouver Island, BC. At the time, David was planning to attend university across the country within a year or two and wasn’t really looking for anyone. Similarly, Tyler had just come out of a relationship and was also not seeking anyone. At least, that’s what we told each other.
Six months into our relationship, Tyler moved in when David's roommate moved out. David postponed university for a year, and in 2019, we both moved to Montreal.
Of course, then COVID happened, and we actually started lockdown while on a break. It could have been the end of our love story, but it wasn’t.
We tied the legal knot in December 2023, with some family in attendance and others joining via Zoom. As our adventure continues in Oklahoma, we needed to get married before moving, but we’ll celebrate our spiritual wedding with all of you next summer, on June 29, 2025.
We are so excited, happy, and thrilled to celebrate with all of our friends, family, and everyone who has touched our lives. We look forward to seeing all who can come, and for those who can’t, we know you’ll be with us in spirit.
With love,
The Birnhams
