REAL schedule HOME to Anacortes (Watch out for Sunday symbols!) Ferries notoriously run up to 2-3 hours LATE on Sunday so leave early if you need to make a flight.
1. DECIDE CAR OR WALK ON
WALK ON:
No reservation needed. Cheaper. Need to call a cab/ or trolley to get around the island.
CAR:
NEED a reservation. More expensive. You can drive yourself around the island. This reservation system has changed this season. See below for details
2. WALK ON Anacortes/Friday Harbor Ferry Schedule

1. Look at the schedule and make sure it says Anacortes/San Juan Islands.
2. Make sure the dates include the right days. (Probably around 8/1-8/2).
3. Look at "Leave Westbound" and find "Anacortes". Go down and find a time you like. This is the time the boat leaves. Be in line with your ticket purchased at the window 30 min before the time listed on the schedule.
4. Go right, across to the column that says "Friday Harbor." Make sure your boat goes here.
5. Check weird symbols like FRI or EX SUN. These will mess with you.

GOOD: 8:30a departure from Anacortes (yay), blank, blank, blank, arrives 9:35am Friday Harbor. (Success! Straight shot achieved! Ferry Master unlocked!)
GOOD: 6p depart Anacortes, one stop at Lopez, (stay on the boat), arrive 7:20p Friday Harbor. (success, made it safe, got off at right stop.)
BAD: 10:35a depart from Anacortes (yay), never arrives Friday Harbor... (hope you like Orcas Island...) FAIL!
BAD: Anacortes 11:30p on Thurs. You will sleep on the ground in a ferry terminal because this is the last ferry on FRIDAYS on this schedule.
3. Reservations for CARS available April 16th.
Reservations home (SUNDAY) are hard to get. GET THEM EARLY. If you can't get the time you love, just get A reservation, you can change it later if you find one you like at a later date.

***NEW*** Go to this website at 9:55AM on April 16th and be ready to click submit at 10am.
There has also been a virtual waiting room system implemented for this day. From this waiting room you will be able to see your place in line, expected wait time, and will have the option to receive a notification and come back to the site when it is your turn.
Next availabilities open 2 weeks and 2 days before the scheduled departure. (Log on at 6:55am on those days to grab your reservation.)
The website is fairly easy to use. You will leave from Anacortes, and arrive Friday Harbor. You will also need a reservation to get back. A reservation "costs $20". You need a credit card for ransom but when you drive up and say you have a reservation you are checked in and the $20 is waived. (You only get charged for cancelling within 24 hours or no-showing.)
