La Cappella Restaurante (our absolute favorite with amazing ambience, food, cocktails, live violinists, and a fabulous view overlooking the ocean and a historic church called Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe; more formal / Este es nuestro restaurante favorito de la ciudad. 2. Sonora Prime (spectacular steak restaurant with DJ music, cocktails, wine, and dessert options; it is a 20-30 minute car ride from Zona Romántica to "new" Puerto Vallarta but we make it every time we visit; more formal / Este es un restaurante de cortes de carne y estamos seguros que es el mejor de la ciudad. Hay música de DJ, buenas bebidas/vinos y los postres son sumamente deliciosos. Se encuentra a 30 minutos de la Zona Romántica. Vestimenta: formal.)

3. La Langosta Loca (casual beach front spot with good seafood and drinks; we recommend the second floor which has an amazing view of the sunset! / El restaurante se encuentra frente a la playa. Tiene buenos mariscos y bebidas. Recomendamos sentarse en el segundo piso para ver el atardecer - ¡ofrece vistas increíbles! Vestimenta: semi-formal.)

4. Café des Artistes (amazing atmosphere, music, food, and cocktails; more formal / Buen ambiente, buena música, buena comida y buenas bebidas. Es considerado uno de los mejores de la ciudad. Vestimenta: formal.)

5. The Iguana Restaurant & Tequila Bar (great views, food, cocktails, and a little history/homage to Elizabeth Taylor; more formal / Vistas inigualables. Buena comida, buenas bebidas. Está lleno de historia y es un homenaje a Elizabeth Taylor. Vestimenta: formal.)

6. Pancho's Takos (very popular spot with delicious pork tacos (tacos al pastor); casual with tables on the sidewalk and cash only / El lugar es conocido por sus tacos al pastor. Solamente aceptan efectivo. Vestimenta: semi-formal.)

7. Café de Olla (casual spot with delicious breakfast/brunch food and authentic Mexican options including Café de Olla (look it up if you've never had it!); cash only / El lugar es conocido por sus desayunos. Ofrece auténticos desayunos mexicanos. ¡Le pedimos de favor probar su famoso Café de Olla! Solamente aceptan efectivo. Vestimenta: semi-formal.)

8. La Bodeguita del Medio (a casual spot with an ocean view, great Cuban food, and authentic mojitos; we recommend the second floor / Tiene buena vista al mar y ofrece excelente comida cubana. Le pedimos de favor sentarse en el segundo piso y probar sus famosos mojitos. Vestimenta: semi-formal.)

9. Margarita Grill (some (aka Armando) would pretty accurately call this a "tourist trap" - but Eric would like you to know that you can get a margarita the size of your face, freshly-made salsa from the mortar and pestle, and live band music / A Armando no le gusta este lugar, ¡pero a Eric le encanta! El tamaño de las margaritas es algo sorprendente y preparan salsa en molcajete inmediatamente después de sentarse. Vestimenta: semi-formal.)

10. Food Trucks Next to Farmacia Guadalajara / Food Trucks al lado de la Farmacia Guadalajara (if you're feeling adventurous for street tacos or quesadillas, then this is where we always get them when we visit; only open in the later evening and you'll need cash / Si tiene un espíritu aventurero, le recomendamos probar los tacos al lado de la Farmacia Guadalajara. Recomendamos las quesadillas. Abren tarde y solamente aceptan efectivo.)

Too many bars to name all over Zona Romántica, but we've never gone wrong with any of them (or maybe we have?). Mr. Flamingo is a classic (and better later in the evening) with open dance floor that sometimes extends into the street (bring cash). La Bodeguita del Medio is also a great option if you'd like a Cuban mojito. Otherwise, margaritas abound just about everywhere else you look!

Hay varios bares en la Zona Romántica. Mr. Flamingo es un clásico - en ocasiones la pista de baile se extiende hasta afuera del lugar. Sólo aceptan efectivo. La Bodeguita del Medio también es una gran opción si gustan mojitos cubanos. De lo contrario, ¡las margaritas abundan en casi todos los lugares de Puerto Vallarta!

1. Vallarta Botanical Gardens (absolutely magical gardens and vegetation, a koi pond (yes, you can feed the fish), and a restaurant where hummingbirds will come right to your table while you admire the view; it is a 30-40 minute ride by car/Uber but well worth it / Este lugar tiene los jardines más impresionantes de Puerto Vallarta. Hay la oportunidad de alimentar a peces y de comer en un restaurante con vistas inigualables - y a pasos de varios colibrís. Queda a 40 minutos de la Zona Romántica, en Uber.)

2. Malecón Boardwalk (a stretch of boardwalk-style shops, restaurants, bars, street artists/performers, and beach views / Este malecón tiene muchísimas tiendas, restaurantes y galerías de arte - todo con vistas al mar.)

3. Ritmos Beach Cafe (there are many beach front options where you can get beach chairs/umbrellas with food/drinks service, massages, etc. but this is our go-to / Hay varios lugares en donde uno puede disfrutar de la playa; este lugar, sin embargo, siempre es nuestra elección. Ofrecen sombrillas, masajes, comidas y bebidas. Aceptan tarjetas de crédito.)

4. Playa las Animas (if you go to the actual "El Malecón" - which is a circular dock on the water - then there are numerous options for day-long excursions by boat to other nearby beaches such as this one where they have a restaurant with floating hammocks on the second floor; there are also other boat rental and snorkeling options / Hay unas playas cerca de Puerto Vallarta que solamente se pueden acceder por medio de barcos (localizados en "El Barco" del malecón). La playa "Las Ánimas" es siempre una elección nuestra cada vez que vamos a Puerto Vallarta.)

5. Mirador de la Cruz (if you're up for a hike and a lot of stairs, then this lookout tower will reward you with spectacular views of the ocean, the mountains, and all of downtown Puerto Vallarta / Ir a este mirador no solamente es un gran ejercicio, pero una experiencia inigualable. Una vez uno llega a la cima, las vistas son impresionantes. Es muy importante llevar bastante agua.)

There are numerous shops and markets scattered all over Zona Romántica, but here are a few we check out every trip / Lugares en dónde comprar hay varios, sin embargo, aquí compartimos algunos lugares que siempre procuramos frecuentar:

1. Mercado Municipal Rio Cuale (very large market with indoor and outdoor street stalls that go on for blocks; you can find all kinds of souvenirs here and bargain with vendors / Es un mercado de grandes proporciones. Se puede encontrar un sin número de tesoros. Recomendamos siempre negociar los precios.)

2. Tierra Huichol - Galería Malecón (a store on the Malecón Boardwalk with all kinds of huichol sculptures that reflect handmade and symbolic beadwork by indigenous artists; more expensive and no price negotiations here / Esta tienda está localizada en el malecón. Es un lugar en donde uno puede encontrar arte "Huichol" que refleja un trabajo minucioso de artistas indígenas de Jalisco y otros estados vecinos a éste. No se pueden negociar los precios en este lugar.)

3. Pottery Tlaquepaque (a large store with art, ceramics, dishware, and more at very good prices / Es una tienda muy grande en donde uno puede encontrar cerámicas, vajillas y muchas otras cosas más.)

4. Red Gate Gallery (a small pottery and ceramics store with beautiful artwork / Es tienda en más pequeña a la anterior, pero uno puede encontrar aquí piezas únicas de arte.)

5. Galería Serendipity (smaller art spot, but they have amazing Taladura Mexican pottery from Puebla; check out their butterly vases! / Uno puede encontrar aquí un arte llamado "Taladura". Es un arte que origina en Puebla y sus jarrones de mariposas son tesoros de la vida.)

6. La Colección (exceptional art and home decor options with Mexican flare / Uno puede encontrar aquí decoraciones para la casa con toques 100% mexicanos.)

7. Peyote People (small store with art such as alebrijes and Taladura style pottery; more expensive and no price negotiations here / Los alebrijes de este lugar es algo que no se puede conseguir en otras tiendas. Los precios están un poco elevados - ¡valen la pela!)
