You'll want to have "The Excellence Collection" app downloaded for your stay. The app is updated live to show which restaurants are open, and will have the menus for all restaurants (they don't provide paper menus).
How to navigate to homepage:
1. Download "The Excellence Collection" app
2. Select "Excellence Resorts" out of the three resort options
3. Select "Excellence Riviera Cancun" out of the five options
4. Click "Cancel" if you don't have a room number yet and it will take you to the homepage OR once you are there you can type in your room number
You can find a resort map on the app or you can search it online.
A few areas of the resort are exclusive for Excellence Club guests including one pool bar--all of those areas should be marked!
Breakfast and Lunch reservations are not required or available.
Dinner reservations are not required at most restaurants. They are required at Spice (for hibachi), Chez Isabelle (French), and Magna (Excellence Club guests only).
This is optional, but you can make group dinner reservations at any restaurant for 6:00 PM or 9:00 PM only. They told us that they can only make a reservation for up to 6 people but we saw many groups of 8-10 at restaurants.
Chez Isabelle (French) will only seat 2 people at a table due to its quiet atmosphere.
Reservation Concierge can be found in the Main Lobby by the coffee shop.
The Kitchen Table is the main buffet and is always open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Room Service is also available 24/7!
LUNCH: You can order pool-side from any of the servers at the pool or beach. You can also opt for a sit down lunch and go to The Kitchen Table (buffet), Lobster House (seafood), Oregano (Italian/Pizza), or the snack bar buffet at Olas.
DINNER: The restaurants that are open for dinner rotate and you can see on the app which restaurants will be open.
The sit-down restaurants include the following:
- Kitchen Table (Buffet)
- Lobster House (Seafood)
- Oregano (Italian)
- Agave (Mexican)
- The Grill (Steakhouse)
- Basmati (Indian)
- Chez Isabelle (French)
- Flavor Market (Spanish)
- Spice (Asian)
- Magna (Excellence Club-Only)
Food allergies are taken very serious and can be accommodated at all restaurants. Upon being seated at every restaurant, they will ask about food allergies and restrictions.
There are 11 bars throughout the resort with varying schedules. We have just a few special remarks:
- Martini Bar (Main Lobby): This is a great before/after dinner stop to grab an espresso or Ferrero Rocher martini
- Sports Bar: This is open the latest of all restaurants and bars--the later the night goes the louder the music gets!
- Pool Bars: Feel free to order special drinks or shots for the group at the pool bar or from the servers around the pools
Also, a selection of liquor and mixers are provided in your suite if you need a nightcap or getting ready drink!
The resort has everything you would need but if you are looking for more adventure, feel free to book an excursion. There are many reputable tour companies that service all of the resorts in the Cancun area.
You can book excursions via the Concierge in the main lobby but you can get better deals by talking to some of the local salesman on the beach.
A few options you'll be able to find:
- Cenote Snorkeling
- Jungle Boats
- ATVs
- Ziplining
- Golf
- Snorkeling
- Dolphin/Turtle Experiences
- Ruins Tours
- Bring plenty of small bills ($1/$5) to have ready to tip throughout the day
- If you will be at the pool or beach for an extended period of time, you can tip your server a larger amount up front ($10 or $20) and then rotate with your group every so often to continue tipping. If you do this, you will never have to worry about figuring out where to get your next drinks or snacks.
- No need to convert USD to Pesos. The staff is receptive and extremely appreciative to both.
- The Grill (Steakhouse) was our favorite during our site visit
- Chez Isabelle (French) and Magna (Excellence Club only) are two restaurants that have overwhelming great reviews on the resort forum
- Aroma (the coffee shop in the lobby) has great pre-packaged sandwiches are snacks that you can take on the go
- Don't forget about room service! It's open 24/7 and the pizzas make a great late-night snack
- Take advantage that everything is all-inclusive! Didn't like a meal you had at a restaurant? Well that's ok, just head to another restaurant! Nobody is keeping track of how many restaurants you go to or how much you have to eat or drink
- Aroma (coffee shop in lobby) makes great lattes and cappuccinos if you want a specialty drink to take with you to breakfast
- The servers around the pool can help brainstorm fun drinks or shots for you and your group. They are normally not extremely strong so feel free to try a few throughout the day
- If you have a special request for beer or liquor in your room, you can leave a note of your special request (more light beer instead of dark beer, etc) and a tip and they will get it taken care of
- This resort is known for its exceptional service. The staff will go to great lengths to fulfill special requests so when in doubt just ask.
- In your room you can ask for a fan or mattress topper to be more comfortable.
