After Molly graduated from her undergrad studies, she took a job at the University of Michigan Hospital (UMHS) as an "At The Elbow" assistant. This support role was to help nurses learn the new EMR as Michigan transitioned to EPIC charting. (To all of the non-medical people, sorry for the jargon).
I (Jordan), was already an RN at UMHS on the Bone Marrow Transplant floor where Molly had been assigned. Her shift was from 6 AM-3 PM while I was still on the night shift (7 PM- 7 AM). I noticed Molly right away and wanted to get to know her better, but didn't want to be too forward. On the mornings when my work was done at 6 AM, I would page or find Molly and ask her to help me with some aspect of charting. I didn't really need the help, but it was a way to talk with her. She probably thought I was incompetent at the time (she still does).
On Molly's last day, I finally asked her out and gave her my number. She texted me and our first date was at Ashley's, a well known pub in Ann Arbor. (I later found out Molly lost my number, but somehow found it again.)
Our second date was at Fleetwood Diner and at that point we decided U + Me = Chemistry. We officially started dating in October 2014. I knew Molly had plans to go to medical school, but we wanted to be together and see how it went in the meantime.
Ten months later Molly called to tell me she had gotten into medical school. I was at the airport in Lima, Peru, preparing to head on a trip with friends. She was not only heading to medical school, she had to move to Dominica (a small island in the Caribbean), with only a few months notice. Although we knew a long-term relationship would be difficult, our connection had grown strong and we wanted to give us a chance.
While Molly studied in Dominica, we were long distance for a painful 20 months. However, thanks to a flexible work schedule I was able to see her every two months. We would meet wherever was convenient and the various places included Dominica, Puerto Rico, Europe, Harry Potter World, and Midland to name a few.
After didactics were finished, Molly started her clinicals at various sites across the country. Thankfully as an RN, I was able to take travel gigs and go with her. We lived and worked in Miami, Washington, DC, Detroit, Chicago, and finally Oakland, California for a year. In Oakland, Molly had a preliminary surgical year.
In the spring of March 2021, I called off sick from work to be with her on Match Day. Imagine our joy when she matched at Detroit Medical Center for Anesthesia!!! We were so excited to be heading back home to be near friends and family for the next 4 years. We popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate and then went to bed since Molly had just finished night shift.
(You can't make this stuff up).
After getting settled back in Michigan and a vigorous home search (thanks Alex), we finally bought a house in Hazel Park, MI. We moved in during the fall of 2022 and brought home our puppy/son Taco on Christmas.
After almost 10 years together, we are excited to be tying the knot this fall (We know, we know, "It's about time"). We'd love to thank everyone who supported/helped/housed/loved us during all of this time. We truly could not have done it alone.
We can't wait to share our marriage and celebration with all of those close to us. We look forward to seeing you all up north, and beginning another chapter of our lives!
