Things to Do

You will not find a shortage of things to do here! There's an abundance of hiking, sight seeing, and outdoor activities. Here are a few of our personal recommendations of nearby things to do:

Arapahoe Basin

You can spend the day at Araphoe Basin and get a sneak peak of where we are getting married! The mountain is open to the public daily and offers fun outdoor activities for all ages. You can take the chairlift up to mid-mountain, or if you're feeling adventurous you can hike the 2 miles up to Black Mountain Lodge and reward yourself with a beer and a barbeque lunch prepared on site. Arapahoe Basin also has disc golf, and an aerial adventure park (suitable for all ages!) where you can take rope courses. The wild flowers on the mountain will be in full bloom in late August, and panoramic views of the continental divide will make anything you do beautiful and memorable!

Dillon Reservoir

Dillon Reservoir is located less than 10 miles from Keystone and provides most of Denver's fresh water supply. Spend a day on the water fishing, boating, kayaking, or paddle boarding surrounded by mountains!

Breckenridge

A short 30 minute drive from Dillon is the iconic mountain town of Breckenridge, famous for its world class skiing and snowboarding terrains. Breckenridge is fun to walk around and get a feel for authentic small town Colorado. You can take a free gondola ride up Breckenridge mountain in the summer where there are lots of activities offered like zip lining and alpine slides. If you're looking for some local libations, you can visit the famous Breckenridge Brewery or Breckenridge Distillery and enjoy their tasting rooms.

Mount Evans

Take a drive up Mount Evans Highway, the highest paved road in North America! Mount Evans is just outside of Idaho Springs, which you will pass through on your way to Dillon. There is a small fee to drive the road, but you can drive this scenic byway all the way to the summit which is over 14,000 feet in elevation. The views at the summit and along the way are amazing and you are guaranteed to see lots of wild life like mountain goats and sheep.

Be aware that it will take you a couple of hours to drive the pass, but it is well worth it! Make sure you stop at Echo Lake and the Walter Pesman Alpine Garden on your way to the summit. It gets cold and windy up at the top, so make sure to bring some warm clothes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Black Hawk

About half way through your drive from Denver to Dillon, you will pass by the town of Black Hawk. This small former mining town has been transformed into Colorado's very own "Las Vegas." 2 square miles of a casino strip have everything you'd want to scratch your gambling itch no matter your game of choice. Just like in Vegas, enjoy free drinks while you play cards and slots and hopefully win lots of money!

The following list of things to do are further outside of Dillon, but these are options for those of you who plan on staying in Colorado for a longer vacation and are looking for even more adventure

Glenwood Springs

This small Colorado town is chock-full of fun things to do! Glenwood Springs is a 1.5 hour drive from Dillon and one of our personal favorite places to visit in all of Colorado! Your drive into Glenwood Springs will take you down into the canyon along the Roaring Fork River and is a sight to behold. Lots of things to do here, breaking it all down below!

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park

Once in Glenwood Springs, you can visit the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, America's only mountain-top amusement park at an altitude of 7,100ft! At the park they have a ton of fun rides for all ages, laser tag, alpine slides, and more. The park also offers extremely cool and interesting cave tours which are a must see!

Iron Mountain Hot Springs

Once you've had enough adventure and you're ready to head back down the mountain and relax, head across the street to visit the Iron Mountain Hot Springs and soak in their soothing natural mineral pools overlooking the Colorado River. 16 different soaking pools at various temperatures make for a relaxing retreat no matter what your personal comfort level is. They also have a cooler temperature "family pool" for the kiddos. A perfect way to end a long day!

Glenwood Canyon Brewpub

After a long adventurous day, you'll probably be hungry. We recommend visiting the Glenwood Canyon Brewpub for some delicious food and excellent beer made in house! Lots of good local places to eat, but this is one of our favorites in town.
