Our Wedding

<p>Roper and I met at a horse show in Childress, Texas in the summer of 2020. One of the first things he asked me was what kind of bit I had in my horse’s mouth. I confidently told him, “a moveable one.” He laughed and gave me a funny look, and needless to say, he’s been teaching me ever since then.We talked some that day, but funny enough we never exchanged phone numbers or Snapchats before we left. After the show, Roper tracked down my Snapchat through a girl he knew who I had made friends with there, and that’s how we started talking.Not long after that we talked all the time, and by November we had secretly started dating. A few months later we told our parents, but there was one problem — neither of us could drive yet, so seeing each other wasn’t very easy when we lived in different towns.During the first year we were dating, my parents were out of town on a trip and I convinced my Mimi to drive me to Crowell, where Roper lived, so I could go to the sports banquet with him and his family. That was the first time I met them, and it’s still one of my favorite memories.The summer Roper turned 16, he went to work for a family friend who helps my dad a lot. Because of that he was able to come around more often and even dayworked for my dad some, which made it easier for us to see each other. Even then, we still weren’t allowed to go on dates until I turned 16. Once I finally did, we went on our first official date.For the next four years we made long distance work. My senior year I would drive three and a half hours to visit him while he was away at college. Eventually life brought us a little closer when I started college in Vernon and Roper began working at the Waggoner Ranch.Finally, after five years of dating, the moment everyone had been waiting for came. Roper asked my dad for permission at my Nana’s Thanksgiving, and a couple weeks later, on December 6, he proposed.Looking back, it’s crazy to think that a simple meeting at a horse show started everything. Through growing up, long drives, and years of long distance, we’ve been by each other’s side through it all.Five years later, we’re still choosing each other every day. 💍</p>
