Q + A

Where is the Wedding?

The wedding will be on May 5th, 2024 at Sandos Cancun - Hotel Zone. To attend the wedding you must be a registered guest at the hotel for the security team to let you on the property.

Will the wedding be outside on the beach?

Yes, weather permitting, the wedding will be outside on a beautiful private terrace overlooking the ocean. The wedding will not be on the sand. There is a rain contingency in the resort's grand ballroom.

How long should I book my trip?

The resort has a 3-night minimum stay policy (which is standard for many all-inclusive resorts in this area). Many guests will book Friday 5/3-Monday 5/6. Guests are more than welcome to stay longer and make more of a vacation out of the weekend.

Is Mexico Safe?

Great question! Laura and Matt understand people's concerns. Cancun has one of the lowest crime rates in all of Mexico, and the Hotel Zone where the resort is located is even safer. Caution needs to be taken if you go off the resort, but on the resort, there is a private security team to make sure the resort is safe. The Mexican Government spends a lot of money to make sure the hotel zone is a safe place to travel. Laura and Matt personally feel safer in Cancun than in parts of many larger US cities.

Is the Resort kid-friendly?

Our wedding is absolutely kid-friendly!! Kids are a big part of Laura and Matt's life and they will be having a kid-friendly fiesta fun wedding! However, the resort generally caters to adults. There are not many activities for kids. We think kids can still have a great time playing by the pool, enjoying the beach, and enjoying the ice cream bar at the buffet.

How do All-Inclusive Resorts work?

The cost of your resort stay includes all food and drinks on the property. There are over 5 restaurants, 3 bars, 24/7 room service, and pool/beachside food and drink service all for free to use as much as you would like. Please see the Resort Info tab for more information on food/drinks. Once you arrive at the resort, feel free to put your wallet away, relax, and have fun.

Why did Matt and Laura choose to have their wedding in Mexico?

Matt and Laura love Mexico, Laura has backpacked throughout Mexico and Matt loves being less adventurous and enjoys a nice pina-colada poolside in Cancun. Matt and Laura have family and friends scattered all over the US, and they want to celebrate the weekend with the people most important in their lives. Cancun is within a 4-hour flight from almost everywhere in the US, and they loved how conveniently close the resort is to the airport (under 20 minutes). Matt and Laura believe it's going to be a fun celebratory weekend for everyone and they could not be more excited. They know not everyone will be able to make the trip as it is a big ask, but they are so thankful to everyone in our lives regardless if they can make the trip or not.

Is Cinco De Mayo a big holiday in Cancun?

Cinco De Mayo is a holiday in Mexico to celebrate an important battle at Puebla. It has become a much bigger holiday in the U.S. than in Mexico. In the U.S. we celebrate Mexican culture on Cinco De Mayo. We do not expect many people to travel to Cancun just for Cinco De Mayo, but we are happy to have a nice fun Mexican-themed fiesta wedding for our #CINCODEMINIACI event.

Do I need to bring Mexican Pesos with me?

Matt and Laura don't think you need Mexican Pesos. They recommend having U.S. dollars for tipping on the resort(see below on tipping) and if you want to buy anything off the resort. Many places off of the resort accept U.S. dollars in cash or credit cards. Paying with credit cards in local currency (Mexican Pesos) is usually the best move with larger purchases. Friendly reminder, on the resort, if there are additional add-ons they will charge you in USD(for example if you book a massage).

Do I need to tip?

You do not need to tip at the resort. It is a nice gesture to give a few bucks here and there, but it is optional. When you eat at a restaurant, some people leave a couple of US dollars maybe 1-5 for the staff. Matt recommends giving the poolside staff tips as they deliver drinks/food to your seat. A couple of bucks here and there can ensure great all-day service!
