Ed and Leslie’s story began in Germany in 2018. They met, exchanged information, and kept in touch over the years through the magic of social media. Nothing serious—just little check-ins here and there—until 2024, when Leslie reached out to Ed about a friend moving to the vineyard.
Now, most people might have replied with a polite, “Oh, that’s nice.” Not Ed. His response was, “Come over, I’ll make you clam chowder.” Not just any clam chowder, mind you. This was a recipe he proudly claimed came straight from the Library of Congress, courtesy of some church ladies from the 1920s. Leslie’s immediate reaction? “Marry me.”
And just like that, a plan was hatched. But getting to their first date wasn’t simple. Ed had to take a bus, a ferry, and a train just to reach her in Maine—basically completing a mini Amazing Race to get there. And Leslie? Well, Leslie made her entrance two hours late. Apparently, when you’re worth it, time is flexible.
But the chowder was served (or was it?), the sparks flew, and the rest, as they say, is history.

**If lodging is not in the towns of Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, Tisbury, West Tisbury, Chilmark, or Aquinnah, it is NOT on Martha’s Vineyard.**
Martha’s Vineyard can only be reached by plane or ferry; there are regular flights to Martha’s Vineyard from Boston, New York City, and other regional airports. The most popular ferry is the Steamship Authority from Woods Hole, MA, which docks in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs; it is the only ferry that carries cars, and car reservations must be made well in advance: https://www.steamshipauthority.com/.
All ferries offer mainland parking.
