Maddie and Scott first met winter of 2021. They were both home for the season because of COVID. Maddie was in the middle of her first year of Medical School at PCOM and Scott was just starting his job at Centreville School. We actually met online. (We might have told you we met through friends it was because we didn’t want to admit we met through an app. We still don’t want to admit it but we figured it’s our wedding day might as well come clean.)
One of the first times they met was on New Years Eve! Maddie asked Scott what song they should listen to for the first song of the New Year. Scott chose Shakira’s song “She Wolf.” Maddie thought it was funny and then Scott set off a cannon for the new year! Maddie said yes to a second date.
Their second date happened to be January 6th. A stranger driving on the road chased Maddie up Scott’s drive way in a fit of political rage! Maddie was quite surprised and scared. Scott instantly made Maddie feel better and told her all the ways he could protect her with his extensive knowledge about self defense and gun safety!
Scott came to visit Maddie at school and brought her a beautiful orchid (she named the orchid Elfo). On February 6, 2021 Scott said, "I love you!" Maddie said "I love you too!" Scott said "So does that mean you will you be my girlfriend?"
Even though Maddie was away at school, Scott and Maddie plan lots of fun adventures. Together they go to Maine and Miami for vacation, DC for Maddie's race, California to visit Mill Valley where Maddie used to live, Philly and other PA places to explore! Even though Maddie and Scott lived so close they had never met! They found out they were always in a different spot at a different time.
Over the next 2 years Maddie and Scott kept busy playing lots of backgammon, battle ship, ping pong, and text-message-penguins. Maddie knows the way to keep Scott around is making yummy food. Scott keeps Maddie around by making warm fires.
While keeping up with Maddie is quiet a handful, Scott decides his life is incomplete without one more lady in his life. So he buys Lady! Watching Scott raise Lady, Maddie knows for sure Scott is a keeper!
Scott, Lady and Maddie become quite the trio. Scott and Lady enjoy dove hunting and stomping through the creek at Scott's house. Maddie learns to keep her hair in a pony tail around Lady because Maddie's hair is her favorite snack. Together they all go for hikes and road trip adventures.
Scott grows a mustache. Maddie doesn’t love it. Somehow they over come their differences and Scott sacrifices his mustache for their relationship.
One summer for Maddie's birthday Scott got Maddie her own backgammon board. They took it to Winterthur to play at the backgammon table that is outside on one of the terraces there. Scott claims that in a fit of frustration Maddie threw the dice. Maddie claims one slipped from her fingers. There wasn't a third party there to witness the incident so it's unsure exactly what what down. Either way a die went missing and Maddie ends up replacing it. The board now has one extra die just incase it happens again.
Maddie and Scott can't imagine their lives without each other! Scott decides it's time to make things official and he summons up lots of courage to ask for Maddie's Dad's blessing. The night before he watched scary films with his friend Jack (aka Prender). Good thing Prender was home because he hyped Scott up and was his cheer leader. The next day Scott met with Mr. Callahan. Mr. Callahan knew what was coming because Scott asked him to meet in his office (no one goes in Mr. Callahan's office unless its a serious business matter).
Scott professes his love for Maddie to Mr. Callahan and Mr. Callahan gives his blessing and offers a beer. The Callahans are so happy to have Scott join the family especially because Scott is such a good ping pong player (this means epic tournaments to follow).
On the day of the engagement September 2, 2023 Scott tells Maddie they have a special picnic date. She thinks they are celebrating her finishing a board exam. He totally surprises her with strawberries and nutella (Maddie's favorite snack), champagne, and a backgammon board. Throughout their relationship Maddie and Scott have kept a backgammon score journal. They sometimes write little comments to each other on the pages. Maddie beat Scott first, but on the second game it was as if Scott got every perfect dice roll he needed! He backgammoned Maddie! Expecting to see a snarky comment about his success Maddie picked up the journal to read it. To her surprise Scott writes "will you marry me?" Maddie looks up and there Scott was on his knee.
Maddie was totally shocked that Scott was proposing and her instincts to just give him a hug kicked in. Scott wasn't taking any hugs until he got a strait answer from Maddie. And she said.... YES!! A few moments later she proceeded to ball her eyes out with happy tears!
Since Maddie and Scott have gotten engaged, you might have heard that since then we've added one more pup to the family. Meet Thomas!
