Read Before You Leave

If you plan to take the free private shuttle to the venue (highly recommended), please meet the driver and fellow guests at the Rethymno Marina—see the circled area on the map. The marina is a 10-minute walk from Old Town Rethymno and close to where most guests will be staying. A large shuttle will be parked there, ready for boarding! DRESS TO IMPRESS (AND LEAVE WHITE AT HOME)

The dress code for our ceremony and reception is cocktail. Suits, sport coats, formal jumpsuits, cocktail dresses, and formal separates are all welcome. The wedding will take place outdoors on cobblestone flooring, so please plan to wear flats or shoes with a chunky (not stiletto) heel. And please save white and off-white for the brides!

Dress Code

During our time in Rethymno in September 2025, our favorite moments were the ones that mirrored the Cretan culture: slow. We recommend strolling around the Old Town and stopping as you please to enjoy delicious Greek food, taking an afternoon to sit on one of the hundreds of chairs that line the beaches and order a spritz (or three—we won't judge), and spending a few hours at dinner with the ones you love. We hope you enjoy Crete as much as we do.

You will likely be staying near Old Town, so make sure to take a few hours to roam through the area's colorful shops, bustling bars and restaurants, and charming streets. This is a great place to find souvenirs, including well-priced leather goods and treats like olive oil and baklava. Say hi to the neighborhood cats for us!

Old Town Rethymno

One of Crete's most famous attractions, Preveli Beach is where the Kourtaliotis River meets the sea, forming a crystal-clear lagoon. You can book a tour or take a long hike down to this palm tree forest and secluded beach.

If you're interested in history, architecture, or great views, stop by this ancient fortress. Built in the 16th century, it survived through Venetian and Ottoman rule of Crete and once housed much of Rethymno's population. You will need to pay a small entrance fee (five euros or less) to explore here.

If wandering cats aren't enough wildlife for you, check out Kournas Lake just outside of Rethymno. Crete's only freshwater lake is home to rare turtles, as well as fish and birds. You can swim, rent a paddle boat, or grab a bite to eat near the water.

Things to Do

We want to express our gratitude to all of our guests willing to take such a significant trip. We know flights are long and expensive, so please spend a little time reading through these tips for lowering costs and building in time to rest between flights. Traveling from a larger airport typically lowers the cost of your trip. For example, check out flights from LAX instead of San Diego. We also recommend exploring Black Friday deals for your upcoming airfare purchase. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from the US to Crete. Generally, travelers book flights to a major European city, such as London, and then fly directly to Crete. We encourage you to look at multiple connecting flight options for the best price. This journey can take a full day (around 24 hours of travel), so, if you have the time, you may prefer to build in a long layover that will allow you to stay the night at a hotel in London, for example, before flying to Crete. There are two airports in Crete: Heraklion or Chania. Each is about the same distance from the town of Rethymno, where our venue is located (approximately one hour by bus or car). We recommend inputting each one as a destination, as the price might shift depending on your starting airport. Please note that, due to the time difference between California and Greece, even with the fastest possible flight options, you will need to leave the West Coast on May 17 in order to arrive on May 19, one day before the wedding. AJ and Amelia have been best friends since they were 14, meaning that their friendship has endured through seven colleges, 11 moves, at least five hair colors, and countless adventures (ask her about the time their car broke down the morning after they stayed in a roach-infested hotel near Disneyland). AJ and Amelia know each other better than they know themselves sometimes—which is why Amelia can confidently tell you that AJ is one of the most loyal, hardworking, and compassionate people you'll ever meet. And a doctor to boot!

Maddy is Michaela's only sister (and, soon, Amelia's sister, too!). Maddy travelled with Michaela and Amelia on their first-ever trip to Greece, when they visited the island of Milos and the city of Athens. She may seem quiet, but don't let that fool you—she's got hilarious jokes and is always down for an adventure. Loyal and caring, Maddy is a medical assistant and will soon start school to become a nurse (so please see her for any dancing-related injuries).

Madison Howard

Kaleigh and Michaela have been friends since middle school, and she's Mick's go-to person to see a musical with. Fiercely loyal and always honest, Kal well-meaningly advised Michaela to lower her dating expectations—only to happily admit she was wrong when Mick met Amelia a few months later. Kal is the life of the party, the best shoulder to cry on, and the proud mother of a dog named Dog.

Kaleigh Lacouture

Christian is not only Amelia's brother—he's one of her best friends. A talented musician, artist, and writer, Christian is studying journalism, produces electronic music, and has acquired a truly staggering amount of random knowledge from his Wikipedia-reading hobby. He's hilarious, curious, brilliant, and a great travel companion and concert buddy (he and Mel have seen more than 20 artists live together).

Christian Rodriguez

Kelsey has known Michaela longer than anyone else in the bridal party (except Maddy, who's been around since birth), since they were on the same club soccer team in elementary school. They reconnected in 2022 and Michaela convinced Kelsey to move to San Diego, where they take turns hosting "family dinners" and making each other delicious salads. Creative, compassionate, and unfailingly welcoming, Kelsey throws the best parties, wears the best outfits, and has the biggest heart of anyone you'll ever meet.

As Michaela's former college roommate, Colette has seen every phase of Michaela in adulthood and accepted them with open arms (even when she had a Justin Bieber haircut). Mick was Colette's date to all of her sorority events, and Colette can still get down on a dance floor (she'll prove it at the wedding!). She's also an amazing listener who ALWAYS picks up the phone—despite being the busiest person we know.

Sam and Amelia met at work and quickly developed a friendship forged in Friday happy hours, weekend dance parties, and late nights getting the magazine perfect for the printer. Their running bit is "Sam knows"—if you're wondering the name of a bird or plant or the science or history behind something intriguing, Sam probably knows. She gives great advice and tackles new things with an enviable courage and grace.

Shannon and Michaela met on their first day of college and have been best friends ever since. Shannon is one of those friends who you can do nothing in particular with and it still feels like the most fun day ever. While she never fails to make Mick and Amelia laugh, she's also one of Mick's go-to people to have the tough conversations with; in fact, she was the first person that Michaela came out to. Shannon's also an incredible musician—you'll get the chance to hear her voice during the wedding, when she sings Mick and Amelia's first-dance song.

This is the year it all began (thanks, Hinge!). On our first date, over a rooftop dinner and cocktails, Michaela asked Amelia exactly what she was looking for. "Someone to build a life with," Amelia said. We didn't know it then, but we started building it that day. In 2022, we became girlfriends and fell madly in love. One of our favorite memories from this year was grabbing last-minute tickets to a Harry Styles concert.

2022

You can blame 2023 for our decision to get married in Greece. This was the year we traveled there for the first time, along with Portugal and Spain. We also both started new jobs (Michaela became a small business liaison with the state and Amelia became an editor at San Diego Magazine) and moved into our first apartment together.

2023

In 2024, we adopted three new pets: two kittens named Percy and Clementine and a snail (true story) named Gary. We also moved into a new apartment in our favorite San Diego neighborhood. Not to brag, but Michaela ran a half-marathon with Amelia and more family and friends cheering from the sidelines, and Amelia published her first book. Michaela spent the later part of the year planning an epic surprise proposal.

2024

This one started on a high note: We became fiancées! Then the planning began. We celebrated with friends and family at a lovely engagement party hosted by the Howards and took a trip to Crete to check out our wedding venue. Amelia's mom attended all 12 (really) of her bridal-gown shopping appointments (she found one in the end!). Our cats turned 1 this year, and we had the opportunity to unwind at an amazing wellness retreat in Tecate, Mexico.

2025

It's finally the year we become wives! 2026 kicked off with two epic bachelorette parties—Amelia and her bridesmaids headed to West Hollywood, while Michaela celebrated with family and friends in Temecula. Michaela landed a new job. Best of all, we get married in less than 120 days. See you all in Greece!
