Our mehndi event will be a laid-back, casual party filled with fun, food, and drinks where artists will paint intricate henna designs on Priya's hands, arms, and feet.
Henna is a natural dye from the mehndi plant which stains the surface layer of the skin. It is said that a richer mehndi colour contributes to a happier marriage!
All guests are welcome to choose a henna pattern from the artist's design book to have applied to your hand. We recommend having a small design painted on the back of your hand as it will need to dry completely before you remove it. The longer the dye stays on, the deeper the colour will be, so some people choose to keep it on overnight! Don't worry, the henna tattoo is not permanent and will fade away after about a week.
If you would like have a henna tattoo painted, it is recommended to wear an outfit with short sleeves so the henna doesn't stain your clothes. Take a look at the "What to Wear" section of our website for some inspiration!
The wedding ceremony will be a blend of Christian and Hindu traditions, starting with the Baraat. If you're attending from the groom's side, get ready to dance!
A Baraat is the groom's procession into the wedding ceremony, surrounded by his family and friends. Traditionally, he will arrive on a decorated elephant or horse, but those who know Josh can take a guess as to what mode of transportation he has chosen.
Once at the ceremony entrance, the bride's family will perform a ritual to welcome the groom inside.
Following this, guests will be invited to be seated and enjoy the fusion ceremony. A written guide explaining each step will be available at your seat to give you a better understanding of what is going on.
The ceremony can also be rather long, so if you need to stretch your legs and move about then go ahead! Feel free to take photos, however we ask that you be mindful of other guests and refrain from loud conversation. If you need to talk, please move away from the ceremony area to do so.
After the ceremony has concluded, you will be directed to the main hall where lunch will be served.
When lunch is wrapped up, we will have a Vidai. This is where the bride's family bids the newly married couple farewell (and the bridesfolk will make it their mission to stop the groom from taking away their friend!).
There will be a break before the cocktail hour where you can take photos, go back to your hotel and freshen up.
Our reception will start with a cocktail hour out on the patio of Audubon hall in Independence Grove where hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served.
Guests will then be guided inside where you'll find your seats and we'll have introductions, speeches and a special dance or two by the bridal party! This will be followed by dinner and more drinks :) Get ready to show us your best Bollywood dance moves!
