Here are general guidelines (not rules!) for what to wear for our event. Please feel free to wear what you feel comfortable with.

If you'd like to wear Indian clothing, please see our suggestions below. We ask that you keep certain colours in mind when selecting your outfit, regardless of what type of attire you wear. Thank you!

Mehndi

A Mehndi ceremony is a pre-wedding ceremony where the bride has henna applied to her hands and feet. It is a relaxed and casual ceremony, with lots of food, music and colour! If you choose to have henna applied, you may want to opt for an outfit with short sleeves to avoid staining your clothes.

Feel free to pick anything you'd like, and make it colourful!

If you would like to wear Indian clothing then we suggest for women, either a lehenga, an anarkali suit or an Indowestern kurta. For men, casual kurtas are a good option.

If you're opting for Western clothing, the dress code is smart casual.

There are no colour restrictions for this event.

Wedding Ceremony

The main ceremony of the wedding will be a blend of Hindu and Christian traditions - therefore feel free to pick something festive!

If you'd like to wear Indian clothing, we suggest for women sarees, lehengas, salwar kameez with light to medium embroidery. For men, formal kurta suit sets. If you'd like to wear Western, dress code is formal such as suits and dresses.

To celebrate the fusion of cultures, we ask guests to refrain from wearing red, white or black.

Please note that the ceremony will be outside. Historically, Illinois has been mild to warm during its September months, but feel free to bring a shawl or sweater should you feel obliged.

Reception

The party starts!

Again, if you choose to wear Indian clothing, we suggest for women, lehengas, IndoWestern gowns or even traditional Western wedding guest-ware. For men, feel free to mix and match with Jodhpuri suits, Nehru suits or a festive kurta.

Typically guests will choose to change outfits between the ceremony and reception but this is not at all required.

There are no colour restrictions for this event but keep in mind that there will be dancing!
