When do we book flights?

Go to google.com/flights and set up an alert for your desired dates to travel. We recommend booking a flight where carryon luggage is included in the fare so there are no surprises. Feel free to reach out to CJ with travel questions.

How much is airfare?

Typically airlines offer multiple sales per year to Dublin. Depending on your origin, the airfare will be between $350 and $800, depending on when you book and the dates you select. It is crucial to set up a flight alert so you do not miss the deals.

When should we make a hotel reservation?

ASAP Kilkea will only hold rooms until 4 months prior. After, they will release any unused rooms in the block. We recommend looking for accommodations immediately, if you are not staying on the Castle Grounds. 5/2023 Update- the Carriage House is SOLD OUT. All available rooms are in the Lodge.

How much are rooms on the Castle Grounds?

Kilkea Castle has two types of rooms available: The carriage house (connected to the castle) and lodge (apartment style rooms). Carriage House rooms go for EUR235/ night. Lodge Rooms start at EUR170/ night. This is a regular hotel meaning, only the room is included in the rate. We spoke with the Hotel, if you choose to pay upfront, you can but it is NON-REFUNDABLE.

What are non-Castle options for accommodations?

A cursory look on AirBnb shows a number of listings. If you're traveling with family, this may be a great option. You can already book for November 2023. For hotels, we recommend going to booking.com. You won't find many US chains near Kilkea but we have used booking.com for years and it is trustworthy. You can already book for Nov 2023. The closest towns are Castledermot, Carlow, and Athy. You can stay in Dublin but you there's limited service in the evening on the bus/ train. Pricing is as low as $100 USD/ night.

How long do you recommend us to stay?

For a long as you'd like!!! Ireland is a beautiful island and you can easily spend 10 days traveling the in the Republic of Ireland as well as Northern Ireland (part of the UK). At a minimum, we recommend arriving by the 18th and leaving on the 22nd (but understand if you have to leave on the 21st). You can also start or end your trip in Ireland and go somewhere else! Most of Central and Western Europe is within a 2 hour flight of Dublin.

Kids?

We request kids to not be in attendance. However, please bring your kids along to Ireland if you want. We will be providing information via email after the RSVP deadline on how to set up with a verified, certified sitter through Kilkea Castle and Resort. Feel free to coordinate with other parents to do group sitters.
