I had spent the entire day—from early morning until an hour before the ceremony—helping set up the wedding and was starving by the time dinner came around. A basket of rolls was handed directly to my husband, who was told they were "for the whole table." Despite my initial hesitation, I took two bites. Within minutes, I suffered a Level 3 anaphylactic reaction: my throat began to close, my fingers and toes tingled and lost sensation, and I nearly passed out. When I questioned the waiter, he confirmed the rolls contained "a lot of eggs." This critical information had never been communicated to me or my sister, despite the prior notice. The severity of my reaction required an emergency room visit, where I was administered antihistamines, steroids, and saline via IV. My symptoms worsened before improving, my face, throat, and neck swelled, turned beet red, and I developed hives all over my body. This was the worst allergic reaction of my life, and I am still recovering. Had I eaten the entire roll, I could have died on the day my sister married her husband. I missed the entire celebration because the English Inn failed to communicate a known, life-threatening allergen. Their response to my complaint was dismissive, offering only vague promises of "more training." This is unacceptable for a venue charging premium prices for weddings. The negligence extended far beyond the allergy incident. Our room was barely cleaned, the maid left a bag of dirty towels inside and didn’t clean the jacuzzi tub at all, leaving it covered in grime. The bed was so bouncy that turning over would make the person next to you bounce. The walkway to the ceremony space was long, uneven, and hazardous after a day of rain, forcing many guests to be driven down instead of walking. Event coordination was a disaster. Our assigned coordinator, Adriana, was nowhere to be found—she did not communicate anything to us directly and would not answer any phone calls or text messages. We were trying to determine whether we needed to rearrange the setup to help with the rain plan, as it had been raining all day, and we couldn’t get a hold of her. We didn’t even know that the event coordinator had been switched to Logan until after the wedding was over. While Logan did a great job, the lack of transparency and communication was jarring and added unnecessary stress to an already chaotic day. Breakfast was another disappointment. The "prime rib hash" was soggy and flavorless, and as someone with an egg allergy, I had only one option for breakfast. We ended up buying our own food at a grocery store just to have something edible to eat. The English Inn may look elegant, but behind the facade, it is unsafe and poorly managed. If you or someone you love has a severe allergy, do not risk it here. Their failure to handle basic safety, communication, and service issues could have fatal consequences. Anyone booking this venue is taking a chance that a relative or friend could die on their wedding day. The English Inn had the chance to make this right. Instead, they chose to minimize their failure. For that reason, I cannot recommend this venue to anyone. Your safety and your special day deserve better.
