Heads up: this is a RAVE review, you will find no gripes here! 1754 House knocked it out of the park. My husband and I (from the Boston area) were looking for a small-town venue that would help us put on an intimate wedding (final total was ~65 guests), and the result exceeded our wildest dreams for a wedding. For one, 1754 House bundles SO MANY different services under one roof! If you are a looking for a venue that will cross off half a dozen vendors just by choosing them, consider this: 1754 House has an inn upstairs where our immediate families and close friends posted up for the weekend and got ready (these include multiple suites), managed by Cara; the cuisine is TOP of the line with Chefs Michael and David and everything they produce is a unique crowd pleaser; we did not hire a wedding planner, but Events Manager Brittany made it feel like we did, acting as our anchor, overseer of all dream plans, ceremony director, and the glue that held everything together throughout over a year of planning; AND we hosted our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception at 1754 House and had the option of choosing from three different dining spaces (a fourth event-specific space is in the works in the carriage house too).
The whole staff fielded a number of curveballs with elegance, including an all-vegetarian wedding, pierogi as a late addition to the menu, a Ukrainian dessert shipped to them from across the country and expertly assembled onsite, and some pretty wild requests related to our decor (it was a library themed wedding so there was an obscene number of books to wrangle). The space itself is phenomenal, including outdoor spots for the ceremony, rooms that feel intimate with warm lighting and antique details, centuries-old wooden beams and fireplaces boasting years of character, and modern touches such as funky lighting pieces and super comfy dining chairs.
The weekend of the wedding, we dropped all of our decor off, and like magic, it was all assembled exactly as we imagined with hours to spare. I know this is a long review! But I also want to give a shout out to the serving and bar staff, who are all super experienced and gracious and kind-hearted; we felt very well taken care of and always felt like we were on track. Same for the inn staff (some of whom straddle both inn and restaurant operations), including the manager, hosts, and housekeeping: they helped us make reservations, keep things looking sharp, deliver welcome bags to guests, and keep everyone fed each morning with muffins, oatmeal, fruit, coffee/tea, and other bed & breakfast type fixings. I could go on for days, but to summarize: 1754 House made our experience the best ever, and in general Woodbury is a beautiful community to spend a weekend. We live two and a half hours away and can’t wait to visit again soon! It’s worth the trip every time!
