So I know a lot of people mentioned that communication was an issue, but I had a very different experience. Between the time I signed my original contract and the time of my weddin...
g, the venue went under new management. Thinking this was going to be a nightmare, I was very quickly put to ease. The new managers were AMAZING! The day the switch happened, John and Ellie immediately emailed me to check in and meet us. We scheduled an appointment the same week and they assured us everything in the original contract would stay the same. We were floored by their dedication to keep our original contract and actually they went above and beyond to even better accommodate our wedding. John was extremely quick to communicate and was there helping for the entire rehearsal and the entire wedding day. He was very laid back and easy to work with.
February or March of 2024 is when the management change took place, so if you are looking at this review, please keep in mind I had ZERO issues at this venue!! It was beautiful, historic, and the photos are absolutely stunning!
I am also a wedding photographer and from a vendor point of view, I still give it a 10/10.
First of all, I loved the look of this venue. Also, they have a "bring your own vendors" policy that was very helpful for us as well. The night went fabulous and I cannot wait to g...
et our pictures back.
However, the management left much to be desired. In the beginning the communication was awful. We were stood up (no call/no show) for a meeting that we set up to show our parents and to pay the deposit. It was very difficult to get in touch with our contact via email or phone, and the contact person changed three times during the year that we worked with them.
Honestly, if I didn't love the look of the venue space so much, we would've ended up dropping them to go somewhere else.
Such a beautiful place for our wedding. We were a little hesitant due to past reviews, but we are so glad we moved forward. The management has changed and communication is now grea...

So I was very excited about this venue when I saw the website and the photos. I was a little discouraged when I saw the negative reviews on here about communication. The reviews we...
re from a few years ago and I thought maybe things have improved since then. I emailed the venue 2 days ago with no reply. So I called the number here in yelp, since there is not a number on the website. It was not a direct number to the venue but to the apartment management building, or that's what I was told. The women who answered was polite and gave me the actual venue number. (I found it frustrating the number isn't on the actual website for the venue and I'm having to search for it) so I call the number and get a voicemail which states the voicemail is full and you can't leave a massage. So I call the originally number back, the apartment building, and the women stated, "yeah there is someone new running it, they should respond and clear out the voicemail by this weekend or next week". This whole thing is very frustrating and I'm just trying to tour the venue. I will not be looking at this venue which is a shame because it looks beautiful. I guess their communication is just as terrible now from a few years ago.
Beautiful venue! 1899 is super affordable and is so gorgeous. The only downfall is that it really is a full DIY location. 1899 will set up chairs for your inside, but if you would ...
like an outdoor ceremony you must set up and tear down yourself. I would prefer to have paid just a little bit more to have that included in our total price to make things simpler! I enjoyed that we had so much freedom though and that they are not attached to any specific vendors. You really can make your wedding day unique by having it here. I know some of the old reviews talk about issues with communication, but we were able to communicate well with 1899. They were in touch with my coordinator the week of the wedding and then they called me the day before to confirm everything and make sure we had everything we needed.
We booked this venue about a year and a half ago and a week ago said our vows to one another outside of this awesome place. When we signed up and I saw the reviews on here I was ne...
rvous. To be honest, at the start of our planning process the complaints about communication rang very true. However, that changed about 5 months out and it made a huge impact on our experience. Not going to dwell on people that don't work there anymore because they hired Karmen who is AMAZING. She was super flexible and quick to communicate and help with anything and everything. She was popped in and out as we set up and her positive vibes and attention to detail was exactly what we needed. I was there the next morning to pick up some things and Kamen was showing a couple around. The soon to be bride pulled me to the side to ask about the reviews on here. I without hesitation looked at her and said, "that's old news. Karmen and the crew at Reverie have been amazing. You have to get married here."
As for the venue itself, it was better than I could have hoped. We opted to do our ceremony outside, arching the chairs to round the front of the venue in a half circle. We ended up renting chairs for outside from MPB to avoid having to flip the space or have guests bring in chairs. This did leave for an issue of "uh where do we stand before we go down the aisle. So, we borrowed a tent with walls from friends to put off to the side. This was a good call and gave us a space to gather before and after.
I only have one suggestion for the crew at 1899. It would have been bomb if one of the rooms in the Mansion would have been up to be rented for the day/night. This would have served as a great place to get ready but also just been really convenient. Side note, some of our guests found an Airbnb option inside the Mansion. JEALOUS.
Finally, this venue is very LGBTQ friendly. We kicked off Pride Month with a gay wedding.
The communication was horrible pretty much the whole time. My husband had to physically go to their office to get answers. It took days to respond to my emails and they never picke...
d up the phones. I caved in and hired a wedding planner about a month before the date so she could deal with them instead of worrying about it. The day of my wedding at about 4:30pm (my ceremony started at 6:00pm) the woman from 1899 sent me a text to remind me that all the trash needed to be removed from the venue at the end of the night. I thought that was extremely rude to send to me at that time and she should have sent that text to my planner? My caterers had already agreed to do all the tear down and trash removal. Our day/night went off without a hitch but it was no thanks to anyone from the venue. They have no staff besides the girl trying to sell the place to brides. There are plenty of beautiful places that are a lot more accommodating around Indianapolis! Save yourself the stress!
We were so in love with the venue the minute we walked in to see it. Originally, the communication wasn't great, but after a change in who was running 1899, the communication great...
ly improved. This is such a beautiful venue, and I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Beautiful venue, wonderful response time. Only problem is that we had 3 different points of contact throughout our time planning, which made it a little stressful. Then we were tol...
d we needed liability insurance - which we did get - but nobody ever asked for proof. Then we had someone ask us if we had rented any tables/chairs from them (I had already provided a layout of where everything needed to go, they knew what we needed-- so I thought). Then she told me that it was going to cost extra for the tables and chairs.... but we were told by sales person/coordinator #1 that those items were included.
HUGE mess.
BUT our wedding day was absolutely perfect and I could not have asked for anything better.
My future wife and I are planning a last minute wedding and 1899 has been one of the only venues to truly help us. With a huge crunch time to plan all the details of a 175 person w...
edding within 2 months, so far the kindness and patience Kate has bestowed on us is absolutely outstanding. She has taken our calls late in the evening when my fiancé was having a meltdown and even met us at 10pm so we could see the space at night. I don’t know how any bride couldn’t fall in love with Kate and her charismatic personality! We will forever be indebted.
The venue speaks for itself with such amazing elegance. The chandeliers were what drew us to the venue. We’ll be taking a chance and doing a winter wedding outside, the staff has helped so much to accommodate for this possibly very cold and snowy ceremony. We will be recommending the venue to any and everyone.
(Our only current concern is parking as the lot doesn’t look that big and there are no large bridal suites for getting ready)
This place may be beautiful, but the stress isn't worth it like I'd hoped. Communication is a huge issue. The date I had been attempting to book for weeks was given to someone else...
because I was unable to contact Katie. It seems that simply filling up the dates is more important than cultivating relationships and keeping the trust of potential clients.
I've been working with Katie for last few weeks and we just booked our wedding for October of 2018. Everyone has been super helpful and we just LOOOVE the venue! Every other locati...
on we looked at was incredibly expensive and seemed really difficult to work with the planners, but it's been a total breeze from our first call to the booking. I can't wait to get married here!!!!!!
I had read reviews about communication issues being a problem but because the venue is gorgeous I overlooked it. I have tried to reach them for over a week and so has my fiancé. I...
even reached out via Facebook and my message was read but not replied to. If they cannot even get back to someone now, how will it be when it is your wedding day?!? No thank you. I want a venue that communicates. Just a warning to all the other lovely ladies trying to plan a wedding.
The venue is gorgeous and Shelby the coordinator has been the biggest help! The wedding isn't until April, but we couldn't have gotten this far with out her!
Venue was absolutely gorgeous!! The only bad thing was the communication.. in the beginning I got redirected three different times to three different people. Some of them were tell...
