I truly cannot recommend Russell and his team enough! I had the chance to work with them before as a bridesmaid in several family weddings, so when it was finally my turn to be the bride, I already knew exactly who I wanted for hair and makeup. Booking them was one of the easiest decisions I made during the entire planning process. I legitimately did not even reach out to other vendors prior to inquiring with Russell.
From booking to my trial to the wedding day, the entire team was absolutely amazing. The artists brought the best energy and made all 14 of us feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful. The whole morning was filled with laughter, great conversation, and such a relaxed atmosphere. Even with a large bridal party, they stayed right on schedule while still making everyone feel like they had plenty of time and individual attention.
As a bride, it's so easy to get caught up in the nerves and emotions of the day, but they made everything feel effortless. I never once worried about running behind or how everything was coming together because I knew we were in great hands. They created such a calm, fun environment that I was actually able to slow down and enjoy getting ready with my favorite people.
Everyone's hair and makeup looked absolutely incredible and held up all day and night, even through breezy, drizzly outdoor photos, happy tears, and hours of dancing. I lost count of how many compliments everyone received. Madison and Russell completely brought my vision to life, and I genuinely felt like the best version of myself on my wedding day.
Beyond their talent, Russell, Madison, Hitomi, Will, and Rachel are just wonderful people to spend your wedding morning with. They played such a big part in making that part of the day so memorable, and I'm so grateful they were there. If you're looking for a hair and makeup team that is talented, organized, fun, and truly cares about their brides, look no further than the 1makeupman team. Wonderful group to work with, worth every penny! They not only were professional, but outright fun to work with! They did beautiful work and made the experience enjoyable. Russell even made me a cup of coffee during my trial because I told him I hadn’t had caffeine yet when he noticed I looked tired. My mother in law was hesitant to get her makeup done but they listened to her and did a very natural look that was absolutely beautiful and exactly what she wanted. They truly make you feel like they care and are experts at what they do. I could not have been happier!

. Russell is entertaining, uplifting to everybody in his chair (really anybody in the room with him), is completely receptive to feedback, all while delivering exceptional artistry with each makeup look.
Not only did he take care of my bridesmaids and myself, but he also had my husband cracking up and completely comfortable while doing some subtle skin care and hair treatment. My husband would not typically sign up for any sort of “pampering” but went with it as it was our wedding day. Russell once again was able to adapt from all the ladies in his chair to a blue collar dude getting some light touchup’s for the first time. EVERYONE sung his praises & was by far the most beloved vendor at our wedding.
Weddings are extremely expensive! The only time I have proclaimed, “That’s it?!” throughout wedding planning/budgeting was when we wrote the check to Russell 😅 I learned of his extensive work history in this during my makeup trial and boy, did it show! You get more than your moneys worth with Russell. On our wedding day, everyone’s make up lasted all day long and photographed beautifully. We all looked & felt like elevated versions of ourselves. The wedding party consisted of a bride (me) who loves to cake on make up a sister-in-law who never wears make up, and a couple in between. Russell was able to deliver a cohesive look amongst our party whilst making sure everyone felt comfortable & beautiful.
Finally, I’m thankful to Russell for the extras that he did for us leading up to the wedding that he absolutely did not have to do. This included complete flexibility, warmth from each member of his team, prompt communication, and an extended phone call when things were getting very chaotic & disrespectful from another vendor (which was compromising our wedding day timeframe). I can’t thank Russell enough for helping my husband & I navigate that frustrating time. Russell used his many years of experience to recommend/validate/& get us back to the drawing board. He did so while never speaking negatively of the other vendor. A class act & true professional.
Clearly, we would recommend him every day of the week. Thankful to have met him and work with him!

He was putting a smile on everyone’s face. He took into account every detail I had mentioned to him and my wedding makeup came out absolutely stunning! So many makeup artists nowadays just layer so many products and can look cakey. This is not the case with Russel, he uses just enough product to get the exact look you’re going for. He is also great with all ages and I guarantee will make you look 10 years younger! Cannot recommend him enough. Will definitely be using him for my next wedding (just kidding).

Russell was incredibly warm and welcoming during my trial, which put me at ease immediately. Ashley handled my hair, and she was so patient and attentive as we figured out the perfect style. She listened to my (admittedly vague) ideas and turned them into the most beautiful look for my big day. Mallory took care of makeup and was just as fantastic. None of us in the wedding party wear much makeup, and she created natural, elegant looks that made everyone feel beautiful and comfortable. She even charmed my 3-year-old flower girl by applying pretend makeup, which was such a sweet touch.
Both Ashley and Mallory became part of our getting-ready party, blending seamlessly into the morning and helping everything run smoothly. Their warmth, professionalism, and talent made the day even more special.

From the beginning he was very friendly and responsive. He answered all of my questions and made sure to really work with me. During my makeup trail, he makes you feel so comfortable and will have you laughing the entire time. I showed him a picture of the look I wanted and he made it possible! Nicole who handles the bookings is so very sweet and very accommodating. I felt terrible because I kept making changes to my invoice and she was extremely patient and never made me feel bad for my indecisiveness.
The day of the wedding, Russell showed up with his team. He had everything with him - table, chairs, lights and got right to work. He had me and my bridal party laughing the whole time. He kept the morning very light and fun. All of our makeup looked stunning. It was such a smooth process and he really got the wedding day started on such a positive note. I can't thank Russell, Hitomi, and Nicole enough for making my wedding day so special!

One of the things that meant the most to me was what great care Russell took with my Mom’s make up. You can tell that he genuinely loves what he does and he truly helped make the whole getting ready experience by creating such a calming and fun environment. No stress! He is professional, talented, and makes everyone who sits in his chair feel great about themselves.
One of my biggest fears about wedding makeup was looking TOO made up. I've seen so many photos of women who barely look recognizable once they've been airbrushed and contoured. Russell is all about "enhancing" rather than covering up. Don't get me wrong, between the skincare and makeup he expertly applies, you will look nearly flawless— but you will also still look like yourself. Just the best version of yourself!
You will not regret booking with Russell, or his team. It's like giving yourself a gift on your wedding day. I have such happy memories of the entire process and now photos I will treasure forever.

e beautifully. The only complaints I have are that I was the last to have my hair styled and it felt very rushed. Additionally, the make up stylist neglected to bring the lipstick that I chose at my trial run. And although she was able to create the right color using a lip liner for the ceremony, I didn't have the right color to reapply throughout the evening. Lastly, from reading the contract I was under the impression that the cancelation fee would be incurred if I canceled my booking. When the ninth person backed out of getting her hair and make up done two weeks before the wedding, I was disappointed to be charged a 50% cancelation fee of the cost for her hair and make up (I was originally going to be charged a 75% cancelation fee but got it reduced to 50%). While I understand the need for a cancelation policy, it needs to better communicated. It was never mentioned during the phone calls or during the hair and make up trial.

The day of my wedding he made me look and feel beautiful, and even more importantly he made my bridal party, mom, and mother-in-law feel that way too. llergies. My eyelashes stayed on for DAYS seriously DAYS!! Not only are they all amazing professionals but they are hilariously funny and so kind! I did not stop laughing the whole day and they kept me and the bridal party at ease while making us look beautiful! I want them to come everyday to make me look as beautiful as I did on my wedding day!

He is a calming yet fun presence to have and will make you feel the most beautiful you have ever felt.

especially for anyone a bit nervous about working with professional stylists. Russell made sure everyone in the multi-generational party was at ease and kept our makeup natural so we all felt like ourselves. He also taught me (and my whole bridal party) about makeup color theory and was kind enough to leave makeup remover for me after I realized I had forgotten to bring mine for the weekend! Jessica took feedback from my mother-in-law without missing a beat, and I have no idea what magic she used to get my hair to stay in an updo all day, but I’ve never been to a stylist who managed that before. Russell and Jessica made sure the whole wedding party looked fantastic and felt like our best selves. (May 2019, Philadelphia)

ing into his chair immediately takes the wedding day stress and jitters fade away. I felt more beautiful and I ever have all night long! (Plus he uses waterproof products, which is a huge plus for a crier like me!)

ing an earlier than anticipated time line the day of. He kept his cool, helped me keep my cool and did such beautiful work. I felt like a more glamorous version of myself. So many people have commented about my make up and it lasted all day... even through some serious dancing!

nd he made me feel super comfortable and valued immediately. The makeup trail was great and I feel like he truly listened to what I wanted, even though I was not the best at communicating my vision. The day of my wedding, Russell came to the hotel with all his supplies and LIGHTING so everything would be perfect...and it was! All my bridesmaids, MIL, and mom loved him and he made us all feel so comfortable and beautiful. I HIGHLY recommend him for any of your makeup needs!

done before our evening wedding - my makeup lasted all day! russell takes pride in his work and wants you to look your best. i received so many compliments on my makeup - he makes you look flawless (no cakey look from russell)! you also get more than just a makeup artist from russell; he provides such a positive and motivational experience. this experience starts from the day you book him. russell makes every meeting with him fun and so so so uplifting - you leave feeling great about yourself ! thank you russell for being a true professional and providing amazing service!

ng it! From the day I met him when he did my makeup trial, I knew we would get along so well. He helped me so many times throughout my wedding day to laugh and not think about how stressed out and nervous I was! My bridal party and my mom had so much fun with him also. He made everyone look so amazing, including myself. I have NEVER felt more beautiful than I did the day of my wedding. Russell went above and beyond to make me feel that way. He even stayed late to touch up my make up and do some final primping of the other girls. I will definitely be using Russell when I have another event, he truly is amazing and one of a kind! Super professional, on time (in fact always early in my experiences), manages timeline for wedding day perfectly, and such a great time to be around. Please do yourself a favor and use Russell!! It will be one less thing to stress about on your big day, I promise!!
