Landmark Venue. Bespoke Experiences. Impeccable Service.
Host your celebration in a landmark 1913 venue designed by Elmer Grey (architect of the Beverly Hills Hotel and Pasadena Playhouse), and finalist for Best Ballroom Venue in California (CA Wedding Day 2025). At 440 Elm, every wedding is uniquely yours, as we bring together bespoke menus, exclusive large spaces, all-day access, flexible floorplans, extended hours for late night dancing, and precise professional service.
Our Grand Ballroom—one of Southern California’s largest non-hotel spaces—welcomes 125 to 400 guests (or up to ~135 with indoor ceremony) beneath soaring 30-foot coffered ceilings, luminous stained glass, and original Arts & Crafts details. Decadent chandeliers, a 1913 concert grand piano, and a hand-carved organ grill create an atmosphere of architectural legacy you won’t find in any hotel ballroom.
Experience seamless transitions from sunlit ceremonies in the outdoor Plaza to elegant, late-night dancing beneath stained glass. Additional spaces—including our exposed-brick Parlor for intimate gatherings, dedicated Bride and Groom Rooms, inviting foyers, and a secluded side garden—offer your guests comfort and flow throughout every stage of your celebration.
Located centrally in downtown Long Beach, 440 Elm is easily accessible from both Los Angeles and Orange County. We host just one wedding at a time, ensuring complete privacy and a level of focus that honors your story. Our team delivers impeccable service—from the first planning walkthrough to the final toast—so you and your guests feel genuinely cared for.
We welcome all couples, honor every tradition, and bring cultural fluency and flexibility to event timelines and menu design. Whether you’re envisioning a classic formal affair, a weekend of cultural celebration, or an intimate microwedding, 440 Elm is your canvas for a celebration worthy of legacy.
A Living Legacy:
440 Elm has been carefully restored as part of an adaptive reuse effort—honoring a Long Beach landmark while adding elements like a ballroom floor and air conditioning to adapt to modern needs and celebrations. By celebrating here, you become part of a story of sustainability and preservation, helping to ensure this architectural icon welcomes generations to come.

We just had our wedding here in October and it was a dream come true. First, the venue itself is STUNNING! Its a historical building that they preserved a lot of old architecture. ...
So the ceilings are high, there's massive pillars and stain glass windows. Just a timeless classic! It made it so we didn't have to spend so much on decorations because the venue brought together most of the magic!
As for the team you deal with, I can't express in enough words how wonderful Elizabeth, Vijay and their whole team are! They answered every questions. concern, and helped us put all our ideas together. They were responsive and thoughtful. And the food....OMG! The food compliments we received. They catered a special menu that fit mine and my husbands cultures together and all of our favorites. We were so pleased! This was NOT your average wedding food, it was elevated, beautifully presented, and delicious!
