Warning: 45 Riots management is not refunding our very large ($6,350) deposit for a wedding that can not take place as planned this July 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic (eg statewide government restrictions in CT prevent our venue from holdin...g the wedding reception), despite language in the contract that allows for a full deposit refund in the event of a “force majeure". In addition, when we tried to re-schedule, 45 Riots management required in their new contract (i) a $2,500, non-refundable "rebooking fee", (ii) removed language in the proposed contract that allowed for a full deposit refund in the event the artists can not perform due to a "force majeure" in the future (eg the current and ongoing Covid-19 pandemic) and (iii) proposed that if we had to reschedule again if there were another "force majeure", (eg a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic that required another rescheduling), it had to be within 3 months of the scheduled date, the deposit would be non-refundable and "the personnel lineup may vary depending on the rescheduled date and “peak” event dates or holidays may require additional fees". Finally, the remaining balance would be due and payable within 10 days of the potential next performance date. It is also important to point out that we selected 45 Riots to perform at our wedding reception after hearing specific musicians using the name 45 Riots perform at another venue. However, when we tried to include the names of those musicians in the new contract, including Day, the lead singer, we were told by 45 Riots management that was not possible. In fact, 45 Riots management presented us with what they called their "standard" contract that gives them the flexibility to substitute any musician, and even the entire group you heard perform at any time prior to the wedding reception due to various factors including "any other legitimate conflict including industry career opportunities". (We recently learned that 45 Riots management refers to themselves as a "modern collective....of musicians" vs a "band"; perhaps, that is why they require the flexibility to substitute musicians?) So, the 45 Riots that you heard perform before selecting them is not necessarily the 45 Riots that is contractually obligated to play at your wedding. This is especially important if you have to reschedule in the future due to a “force majeure”. In our case, 45 Riots told us they could not provide the original musicians we heard perform due to scheduling conflicts for every Saturday in May-July (standard wedding season in CT) in 2021 So, in our opinion, while someone may like the musicians available through 45 Riots, we believe 45 Riots' business practices and proposed contract terms make them extremely difficult, if not impossible to retain, especially during these challenging times in the age of Covid-19.
