My now husband and I are so glad we hired 74 Events. Gary was the main point of contact leading up to the wedding and impressed us with his smooth workflow, professionalism, and accessibility. Gary connected us with DJ Ben Carlin for our wedding. Ben was the perfect DJ for us. Ben worked great with vendors on the wedding day and was a calm, competent presence when our venue lost power. Ben helped us find creative means to still be able to do speeches and have music for dancing. Ben is exactly who you want for a fun time and when things go wrong. Ben kept playing the perfect songs to keep us dancing for hours until the very end. Other vendors and guests commented on how great Ben was. I strongly recommend hiring 74 events.

Gary, the owner, made the planning process so easy and thorough. He met with us multiple times, walked us through a detailed music worksheet, and made sure every aspect of the reception reflected who we are as a couple. We also had two Zoom meetings with our DJ, Dre Ovalle, and by the time our wedding day arrived, we had complete confidence that he understood exactly what we were hoping to create.
We shared our worksheet along with a 20-hour playlist of songs we loved, spanning multiple decades and genres. Dre took all of that information and crafted the most incredible dance party we could have imagined. The dance floor was absolutely packed for hours. One guest said it best afterward: “We literally didn’t want to leave the dance floor because it was banger after banger.” We heard comments like that all night and continue to hear them from our guests weeks later.
Our reception also included several custom moments, including a duet with my dad, a choreographed first dance, the hora, and other family dances. Dre handled every transition flawlessly, making each moment feel natural while keeping the energy of the room exactly where it needed to be. His ability to read the crowd and seamlessly shift between songs and genres is truly a talent.
As someone who works in the events industry, I have high expectations for vendors, and Dre exceeded every one of them. He didn’t just play great music—he created an experience that felt completely personalized to us while keeping our guests engaged from the first dance until the last.
When the lights came on at the end of the night, our only regret was that we hadn’t booked another hour because no one wanted the party to end. If an incredible dance floor is a priority for your wedding, I cannot recommend 74 Events and Dre Ovalle highly enough. Following a lifelong love affair with music, I started DJing in 2001 in the Lower East Side, East Village, and Brooklyn. In 2004, I launched 74 Events (inspired by 1974, the birth year of both hip hop and disco) and began hand-picking the DJs on our roster. I am still personally involved in every booking at 74 Events, because my ultimate goal is to ensure that your party is nothing short of a smashing success.

beyond. Our friends and family were raving all night about how much they loved the music, and we had an absolute blast on the dance floor. So many guests told us afterward how epic it was. We give so much credit to Dan for creating that kind of energy and keeping everyone dancing all night.
One of the most special moments was when Dan played "If It's The Beaches," the song my husband quoted in his vows. We didn't realize until the next day that Dan had picked up on the song from our ceremony and played it intentionally—we had assumed we provided it until we went back and realized we didn't! This thoughtful detail meant so much to us and was such a perfect example of how much care Dan put into making our day feel personal and special.
Gary was also incredible throughout the entire planning process. His organization, communication, and coordination made every step so easy and enjoyable. Everything was seamless, and we always felt completely taken care of.
The entire experience with 74 Events was everything we wanted and more. We would recommend Dan, Gary, and the 74 Events team to absolutely anyone looking for a wedding DJ who knows how to keep a dance floor packed while also making the day feel personal and unforgettable.

From the start of the ceremony, through cocktail hour and the reception, to the dancefloor - there was never a moment that Dan wasn't on top of it. It truly felt like he heard everything we discussed in our planning meeting and brought it to life. Several of our guests commented on how amazing the DJ was, which is simply a testament to Dan for reading the room/dance floor.
An actual text message we received the day after our wedding from one of our guests: "The dance floor last night was soooo fun. I haven’t danced my a** off like that in a long time."
Gary, the owner of 74 events and who was our main point of contact -- he was an amazing partner to work with. His level of communication and organization put us at ease immediately. The fact that he paired us with Dan worked out perfectly - he truly nailed it when you said he'd be a great DJ for the wedding we were planning. Following the wedding each of our guests highlighted how the DJ and dance floor were a massive success. Our DJ, Preston, did a fantastic job curating a playlist for us, infusing his artistic elements with smooth transitions that propelled the energy on the dance floor from one song to the next, and naturally MC’ed at moments, making the evening that much more memorable. We also noticed how nicely Preston implemented our requested music starting from the very beginning during the cocktail hour, through to when the dance floor burst open.
We unequivocally recommend 74 Events and Preston as a DJ. It was a pleasure to work with them.

Dre was incredible! He curated the perfect set list for us and knew exactly how to keep the dance floor packed all night long. all night long, instead of your 'traditional' event DJ. This led us to 74 Events and when Gary took in our inquiry and wedding vision, he connected us with James Arnold and the rest was history. We felt so at ease with the entire planning process that it was actually hard for us to build a requested set list for James because we trusted him too much to just get the job done. He did that and then some! James took all of our crazy, random desires (including a last minute pivot to including a Yacht House - yacht rock and house music mixed - set, and turned it into the most magical party our beach had seen. The floor was packed from start to finish; people who *do not dance ever* were dancing until the lights came on; and our friends and family were all looking for James' info at the end of the night. We'd repeat our wedding for a million reason, but James' set is most certainly toward the top of the list of reasons! We will happily refer our friends, family, colleagues, and strangers to Gary and his team for years to come. It is undoubtably one of the best decisions a couple can make if they're looking to throw an epic party people will be talking about for years to come.

an absolute pleasure, and the attention to detail shows he cares. His communication is what you want and need from a vendor. His systems work seamlessly and allows all of your visions for your big day to become a reality. He understands the big moments and makes sure they happen exactly as you wished. Needless to say Gary's extremely knowledgeable of the components that are necessary for all of your guests to talk about how amazing your wedding was for years to come, and that knowledge and his advice allowed us to impress our guest. On top of that he heard our vision and knew exactly what DJ could deliver.
James was the absolute best! His preparation for our event was top notch. He was prompt, set up all three sound system locations effortlessly, and when it started raining during his set up (without warning must I add) he quickly adjusted and worked amazing with the venues staff. Again the systems Gary provides communicated to James every single moment and he knew exactly what to do. Our ceremony was perfect with the help of James. The sound quality was perfect, the ability to let our guest feel the emotions attached to our processional, and he nailed our first kiss by starting the music right as the moment happened. Our bridal parties introductions were fun and inviting for our guest. He edited the timing perfectly for our first dance so it did not feel rushed or too long. He just nailed every portion of our wedding. And of course the most important part, the music! James studies your must play list, and knows exactly what to play around it. He had our guest on the dance floor all night, and most importantly he knows how to read the room. He understand what will keep the party going and his depth of music knowledge gets everyone moving. The quality he provides shows in each portion of your wedding.

our vibe. I was introduced to Gary at 74 Events through a friend, and quickly noticed that many of the weddings I admired on social media had all worked with his team. That consistency spoke volumes.
Gary is an incredibly kind, thoughtful, and generous human. He has such a calm, gentle sensibility that immediately puts you at ease—even a very stressed bride (me). He connected us with Preston, who ultimately became our DJ, and from our first conversation, it was clear we were aligned. Preston and I instantly clicked while trading references and ideas—we wanted a true bistro disco vibe: 70s grooves, 90s R&B, NYC energy, and absolutely no Bruno Mars, country, or tacky Top 40. By the end of the call, Preston said, “Okay, no matter what happens, I’m DJ’ing your wedding,” and I knew we were in great hands.
Gary and Preston were consummate professionals throughout the process. They worked seamlessly with our planner (they’d collaborated before, which made everything even smoother), took our curation seriously, and handled every detail—from song selection to pacing and tone—with care and confidence.
On the wedding day, Preston delivered an incredible experience. He honored our playlist and vision while also layering in crowd-pleasers that delighted our parents and their guests. He didn’t even flinch when my dad started pantomiming Michael Jackson dance moves—true professional behavior.
One of my favorite moments of the night was at the very end, when only a handful of close friends were left on the dance floor and Preston closed things out with Mariah Carey—All I Want for Christmas and other hits included. It was joyful, hilarious, and completely unforgettable.
We would absolutely work with 74 Events again for a future celebration. Thoughtful, cool, and genuinely fun to collaborate with—this team knows how to create a night people will remember.

. We originally chose James because he DJ’d our friends’ wedding a few years ago, and we danced the entire night and couldn't believe how awesome he was. After that experience, there was no question we wanted him for our own wedding.
74 Events made the planning process seamless and straightforward, and they weren’t hesitant to offer thoughtful recommendations that truly helped our day flow better. One suggestion regarding the transition from the parent dances to opening the dance floor created a magical moment when everyone flooded onto the dance floor, lights were dimmed. and we broke out foam glow sticks. We already trusted their recommendations, but that moment truly solidified their expertise. James made us feel completely comfortable and confident from start to finish. He gave us the dance party of our dreams. The song choices were perfect and kept everyone on the dance floor all night, but most importantly, us. At the end of the night, I actually cried tears of happiness because I was so impressed with and grateful for how everything turned out. We couldn’t have asked for a better DJ experience.

ding about the music. It spanned all generations so it was inclusive, but it was so funky and groovy, exactly what me and my husband wanted. He kept announcements minimal, but was there to facilitate every important moment as needed. From start to finish, the professionalism he and Gary showed, was exactly what we needed and hoped for. Communication was seamless, Duane arrived early, and they even provided extra support and additions without hesitation or charge. Everything ran flawlessly, and we truly did not experience a single bump along the road. The energy, execution, and care they brought made such a difference, and we couldn’t recommend them more highly.

and great to talk to. They were prompt on emails, even when we emailed song requests at the last moment.
They gave us great advice on how to hold the microphone during the ceremony and speeches.
They did a great job coordinating logistics with our wedding planner with regards to the speakers, microphones, and outlets so that we didn’t have to think about it during the wedding and everyone who spoke was loud and clear.
DJ Kahn welcomed all our song suggestions and also had good ideas about when in the evening we should play certain songs. He surprised us with some great tunes and helped curate some very special moments during the night. His mixing and song choices helped liven the space during cocktail hour and dinner and then made the dance floor the place to be!
Overall we highly recommend 74 Events as a DJ since they helped make our wedding so special and fun!

we understood what each section meant. That level of transparency is so important to me, and since navigating the wedding vendor selection process can be confusing and stressful at times, it showed right away that this is a trustworthy business that truly cares about its clients.
James Arnold was our DJ and he is not only incredibly talented but also just a genuinely cool person. We had quite a few song requests, but we also kept things open ended so he could incorporate tracks he thought would fit the vibe. That worked out perfectly. Our wedding was only 40 people, so I was a bit worried no one would want to dance, but that couldn’t have been further from the case. We danced the entire night and had the best time.
Most of all, James and Gary are kind, professional, and very easy to work with, which took so much pressure off the planning process. I didn’t have a wedding planner, so I had a lot to keep track of, but nothing related to music ever slipped through the cracks because they always stayed in touch and followed up when needed. I would recommend them to absolutely anyone.

Jeremy was our DJ and we worked with Gary on planning and logistics. From the very beginning, Gary was great to work with. He’s super organized and very thoughtful. From a planning perspective, 74 Events was definitely our lowest maintenance vendor, in large part because Gary thought of literally everything well in advance! Even when we decided to have a musical performance last minute, both Gary and Jeremy were totally accommodating and made the planning easy. As a DJ, Jeremy was outstanding! Ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner music went off without a hitch, and he managed all announcements and speech intros perfectly. He then proceeded to orchestrate the greatest dance party I have ever been to. Literally every one of our guests was on the dance floor for the majority of the party. He stayed faithful to our requests while managing to consistently play the perfect song to keep the dance floor going, and it was amazing. Both Gary and Jeremy are also just really nice people who are very easy to work with. I cannot recommend 74 Events highly enough!!

or. One of the biggest reliefs was that we never had to serve as a go-between for our vendors—Gary handled communication directly with them, which made the planning process stress-free. In the months leading up to the wedding, we met multiple times to discuss music and audio preferences, and we always felt listened to and supported. On the day of our wedding, we worked with Carver AKA DJ Carver The Great, who was an absolute professional. There were no audio issues whatsoever, and he was a fantastic MC—able to set the tone, capture everyone’s attention, and keep the energy going without being over-the-top. Carver’s warm and approachable personality made our family and friends feel welcome, and he was flexible throughout the night, adjusting seamlessly to the flow of events. Thanks to the team, the music and vibe were exactly what we hoped for, and we couldn’t be more grateful! g is stressful, but if you work with Gary and his team at 74 Events, music won’t be one of those stressors. From the start, Gary takes the time to really understand your vision and matches you with the right DJ. We were very particular about what we wanted; ’80s pop and soul, ’90s hip-hop, 2000s and modern hits with specific direction around no line dancing or cookie cutter wedding songs, and a playlist that could bring together a diverse crowd.
Gary matched us with Dan, who I can honestly say is the best wedding DJ I’ve ever seen and I’ve been to at least three weddings a year for the past decade. From the consultation, Dan’s enthusiasm and humility stood out. He was dedicated to making the day about us, and his professionalism was unmatched.
On the day, Dan was flawless. He collaborated with our officiant to create the most entertaining ceremony I’ve experienced, nailed every transition, and read the room so well that the dance floor was never empty. He also handled emcee duties perfectly, keeping the evening flowing with thoughtful announcements and even adapting on the fly when we needed to add a last-minute speaker.
We told Dan personally that he made our night what it was. If you want a reception where the dance floor stays full, book with Gary and Dan. You’ll be thrilled you did. Trust us, he managed to keep everyone dancing all night and keep the bar from getting overcrowded… and we had an open bar.

TLDR: we are SO happy we decided to work with 74Events and particularly with Aaron. Gary made the process super easy and helped us navigate all the things you don't think about related to wedding music and logistics. Aaron absolutely crushed the music. He facilitated a multi-generational dance party with lots of oldies and classics and then seamlessly moved into some of our favorites from Caribou, Jamie xx, Fred Again, and Weval. We also appreciated his classy and professional emcee-style: he made announcements throughout the evening to make the night flow seamlessly but wasn't over-the-top or cheesy about it.
