9th Street Abbey

ere for us every step of the way.

. We signed a contract and put a deposit down for the Airbnb next door (the reason we decided to book) then were told 8 days before the wedding they had double booked it and we would not be getting the Airbnb regardless of the contract, deposit & our wedding being there. I will say they tried to be accommodating but regardless it was so frustrating. They gave us their other Airbnb they own that did not sleep the same amount(unless our adult siblings wanted to sleep on the couch or roll away cot), would not allow my husband and I to get ready in the same space, and the bathroom was AWFUL especially for getting ready with my girls and any pictures we would have taken. We decided to book a different Airbnb that was more accommodating but ending up costing more than the original since it was so close to the weekend we needed it. I ended up having to hire a day of coordinator (who was also a guest) because I could not trust things would go smoothly without one, more money which had to be spent. She requested at our rehearsal that a light bulb in the entry way be changed since it was out. It was not ever changed. One of my bridesmaids and the wedding coordinator were told by management that they would be leaving early since they were there to take care of things (not there job). My aunt was told around 9:30 they would be locking the kitchen and that she (guest) needed to move everything out and start packing up when we had the venue till 11. Lastly, I was told by multiple guests, including coworkers, friends and family. That our spicy margarita (signature drink) that we spent extra to have was made with water instead of sour mix after dinner because they ran out. This means it was water, tequila, and jalapeño juice, which is so embarrassing especially because we paid for the top bar package. When I spoke to management about it they said it “only”happened to 5 people & they would be sure to add it to their check list for next time. This feels to me like basic things to check and only 5 guest getting served one was not true as I know of bad drinks being served at dinner (7:30), once the dance floor was open (8:30) and before my aunt left (10:30). Overall the venue is beautiful, small like we were looking for and the food was a highlight. However, I sadly cannot recommend as so many things went wrong that just should not have.

and the staff were so helpful, organized, and made everything run smoothly from start to finish. Our guests are still talking about how beautiful the space was. If you're looking for a venue that’s both breathtaking and well-run, this is it!

we did feel a little rushed out the door before our time was "up", but this did not really have an impact on our day.

re The Abbey provided. The staff were very accommodating and helped with their event/hospitality guidance and insight throughout the planning process. Our guests raved about the venue and we're hoping some of our engaged friends book their wedding at The Abbey. We loved it!!

ay of the tour. We were let in by a gentleman outside and looked around while we waited. We reached out several times and did not hear back until several days later. The venue was beautiful and was at the top of our list but we decided to go another way due to lack of communication and follow through.

Soulard neighborhood, and we had a sweet garden ceremony in the outdoor courtyard. The Abbey flipped the courtyard during our reception, which took place inside immediately following the ceremony. Our guests loved the indoor-outdoor hangout spaces and had a lot of fun dancing in the original choir loft space with all the stained-glass windows! We especially appreciated the Abbey’s two large AirBnBs, directly above and adjacent to the ceremony and reception spaces, which made us feel really at home for the whole weekend of festivities. Madeline and her team worked with our vendors to help us design and execute our perfect St. Louis spring wedding. We recommend the Ninth Street Abbey for any couples looking for a unique indoor-outdoor celebration space in the City of St. Louis!

h it for us to spend the money, even though we were still on a tighter budget. I don’t regret our choice since it was such a unique space. Just keep in mind that there are only a few vendors allowed for catering so be sure to get those quotes when deciding! We were unable to utilize the courtyard in the way we intended which was the biggest reason we chose the venue. The main reason was weather, but even after the weather changed, guests weren’t informed about how to get to the courtyard, even though the lights were still on and it was safe to use. Guests had to watch the wedding from circular tables which we weren’t notified about as a possibility until we asked about a week out from the venue. We were told we shouldn’t worry about it because it was unlikely. The decision was made the morning of the wedding without any wiggle room to wait it out or consider other possibilities. They said it was a liability for them to move the tables between the ceremony and reception, but they ended up getting moved somehow anyways, because when we had our wedding party come out to introduce themselves there wasn’t a clear pathway to the stage area. Seems like they could’ve rearranged the tables either way so folks could’ve seen the ceremony and the way we decorated it. It would’ve been nice for the company to empathize with this, apologize for the inconvenience, maybe offer a discount for essentially not getting to use 50% of the venue, etc. As far as commutation went, we had a lot of our questions answered via email and we did receive a lot of answers earlier on in our search and for the first three months after booking. It seems like communication was a lot more sporadic once the venue had more events/planning going on. We basically felt like an inconvenience asking questions, things would get lost in email threads, and maybe that’s just because the coordinator had too much on their plate, but it felt like they weren’t present with us the few times we interacted in person. When we showed up to a follow up appointment, they were 20 minutes late and asked us if this event was on their calendar, even though they sent us the invite. Totally ok that mistakes happen, but it felt like they were blaming us for showing up. It was made clear that we would have a very small window of time to access the venue and decorate. Luckily we were very organized ahead of time and got it done in an hour, but all they did was prop the door open for us. Asking questions felt like pulling teeth and they were on their laptop the entire time. Not once were we asked if we needed anything, and given the time constraints, it feels like those two hours could’ve been made easier if we had someone actually giving us feedback and offering insight. They didn’t even introduce themselves, and during the rehearsal no one even knew they were the coordinator. We weren’t given direction during the event. The cake cutting song started playing and apparently they forgot to bring the cake out. There were so many details that I specifically didn’t think I’d have to think about since I just assumed there would be more support the day of and day before since those were our only two days on site. Our DJ basically kept the flow going since no one was as checking in on the time. Gorgeous venue, BYO wedding coordinator.

eline was so over the top helpful and helped us in any way she could as we were on a bit of a time crunch. She worked well with every one of our vendors, she was so organized and accommodating. Great communication and the rectory next store was 10/10 for the morning of to get ready for the ladies. The entries staff was a pleasure to work with and this space made our day magical!

on the wedding day and everything went smoothly. Everyone kept telling us how beautiful and perfect the venue was. They also have Airbnbs attached that you can stay at which is super nice. Our photos also turned out AMAZING because of the venue! There's tons of great spaces for photos. If you're considering 9th Street I highly recommend. 🩷

o have a stunning space (We do highly recommend up-lighting, it added a nice touch). We had a big wedding and were worried about logistics/space, but everything turned out even better than we could have hoped. It was so nice to have the courtyard right there for a cocktail hour, and our guests were very happy with the space. Madeline also did an incredible job as a day of coordinator. She had the right combination of a light touch to make sure it was what we wanted, but the ability to quickly step in and take charge when we needed, and helped us navigate vendors and make sure our day went perfectly.

ined glass former church. It was a fairy tale dream come true! It is like no other venue, quaint and just what we were looking for. Madeline was delightful to work with!

nue. I was so happy when I heard that the 9th Street Abbey was reopening, and that they were willing to work with me on a wedding date that was quickly approaching. The team was great to work with, and the 9th Street Abbey photographs so beautifully. Our guests were raving about our beautiful and unique venue. I couldn’t recommend enough!!!

and the crew for making this event for us extra special !!!

e. We truly loved every aspect of the wedding reception. It was a simply gorgeous setting and the staff worked well to pull everything off seamlessly. We had many guests comment on how wonderful of an evening it was. Thank you, thank you, thank you Trina for your care, concern and kindness that you showed throughout the planning process and the Big Day!

utiful! Our event planner, Candace, worked very hard to ensure every detail was taken care of for our wedding reception. She had creative ideas and helped me to plan every little thing that I had questions about. Joan was very helpful and caring when it came solving issues that arose during planning. Our guests were impressed with the food, drinks, and the overall venue experience!

ng. They handled our 180-person ceremony and reception with ease to ensure our day was perfect, and we are so grateful! Their staff were professional and accommodating from start to finish, and we can't speak highly enough of our experience. These guys are the best!

swers. The staff was awesome! The servers and bartenders were so friendly and did a fantastic job! The food was delicious and there were so many options to choose from! I loved that the Abbey had an indoor space and an outside space. I would totally recommend this venue to everyone!

lved. The wedding day went down without a single issue and even the room flip was smooth and not stressful at all. They have an amazing team there and a beautiful space. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a unique and fun event!

ut every single day of our planning for 9 whole months. The staff was great and the food was amazing. Multiple guests told us that it was the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding (we did 4 different stations of food). Highly recommend this venue!

food was amazing I would highly recommend the Italian buffet and the beef tenderloin ravioli!

ained. What I was blown away most by was working with Coordinator Jenna! Professional, FUN, and extremely helpful is how I would describe working with her and I can’t wait for another chance to work at another wedding with her at the Abbey!

very important to my husband. The food was just as amazing as the tasting which can sometimes be a problem with catering, Patty Long does not disappoint. It did turn out to be rainy and chilly on the day of the wedding so we did not get to have cocktail hour outside, but everyone was having a great time even though they had to see the room flip. We also did both ceremony and reception and was super easy and very reasonable priced for doing both. Of course when you get married in Soulard parking is going to be a problem but we didnt use valet and no one complained. But you could always get that option. I would defiantly recommend this venue. You definitely get what you pay for!

s wonderful. They are extremely helpful. We worked with Jenna and she was like having a personal wedding coordinator. She answered any questions we had and made sure everything was perfect for our big day! The food and service at the reception was also very good! We cannot say enough about how great 9th Street Abbey is!

us when we had some pretty hair-brained ideas/decorations to bring into the space. The food was beyond wonderful; all of my guests were very complimentary. The bar staff were troopers when it came to producing specialty drinks and serving our guests in a timely fashion. The building is tucked away and not your usual, go-to space but that's what made it right for us. We had a "shabby-chic" theme going on and with our extra decorations this place looked like a dream. Lots of space, indoor and outdoor cocktail bars/tables; our 200+ guests were not cramped at dinner; the large indoor bar area makes it easy for guests to get what they need; plenty of dance floor space. They could accommodate our head table of 18 with ease. Let's do it again!!

s. Our coordinator, Andrea, was AMAZING! She seriously kept my head on straight when we got down to the nitty gritty (which is no easy task!). I was incredibly thankful to have someone helping us who was so understanding and flexible! The food was delicious, the space was perfect, and we have had nothing but compliments about the entire day. The main thing that drew us to the Abbey was how much they offered in one space. We seriously had SO much less to do because of this! If you are looking for an amazing venue, look no further!!!

re that we visited). As soon as we saw the space, we fell in love!! It's beautiful and grand, but intimate at the same time. As our big day got closer, I worked with Rachel, and she was amazing about answering my questions quickly and knowledgeably. Rachel made very helpful suggestions and comments about the big picture, such as flow of the reception, and also helped me with the most minute details. I couldn't decide between a few napkin folds, and she re-created them and sent me the photos to make my decision easier! I can't say enough good things about this venue! I am recommending it to all of my bride-to-be friends.

ing anywhere else. We worked with Rachel as our coordinator and she always seemed as excited for our day as we were. Rachel worked so hard to make our day perfect. The rehearsal and the day of the wedding were very organized and efficient. We had both our wedding and reception at the 9th Street Abbey and the event went on without a hitch.

a single thing during the entire ceremony - she absolutely had everything under control. She helped put together the look and feel of the space and brainstormed several ideas prior to the actual day. Not only did she know exactly where everything needed to be, but when we showed up with several boxes she set everything up for us as well after the rehearsal. The ceremony was beautiful and memorable. I couldn't be happier with their customer service and would highly recommend them to anyone! It is a gorgeous place.

a, Rachel, and all others made our lives so much easier and put our mind at ease with answering a million different questions and setting everything up just the way I wanted. If you want a worry free, hassle free, beautiful venue with the best staff, look no further. :)

ey loved the stained glass window), the gardens are lovely. Everything went smoothly and resulted in the perfect setting for the wedding party and their guests to have an awesome time. Rachel was so nice to work with. She was perfect in every way. I can't wait for a reason to return to the 9th Street Abbey.

th and made sure the night was perfect! All of our guest had a blast! They loved the outside seating and the games in the bar area. We had 192 guest and they all fit well in the space without it feeling empty. The only thing I would've changed would be to have more then one bar open during the cocktail hour but otherwise everything was perfect! Such a fun venue! I highly recommend this space to anyone who is looking for a relaxed/party like atmosphere for their wedding!

en, are spectacular. The wait and bar staff were fabulous and so was the food. If you have your wedding here, you'll likely be very happy. However, working with the management of the Abbey during the planning of the wedding wasn't easy. We booked it a year and a half out, and there were several things promised at the time of the booking that didn't happen or we had to pay extra for, so make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing. For example, when we booked, we were told we could exchange Jim Beam whiskey for Jack Daniels no problem. Then it was an extra dollar per person per hour, so it was almost an extra $1000 dollars because we didn't get it written into the contract. They also had a baby grand piano at the time we booked. They no longer had it by the time of the wedding, so we had to provide one for our ceremony musician. They didn't even tell us they didn't have it anymore. I found out because I just asked to see if I needed to get it tuned. The other frustrating thing was the lighting - they tell you they have included gobo (design) lighting, but don't make it clear what it included and what is extra. We got married on a Saturday and they wanted us to rehearse on a Thursday. Originally we looked into having our dinner catered at the Abbey as well, and the Thursday rehearsal was not mentioned until we chose another venue for the dinner. Our minister and several members of our party are from out of town, and we were told "we're sorry it might not be everything you envisioned" if we had to rehearse on Thursday and everyone couldn't make the rehearsal. My dad was able to get them to add a 2pm Friday practice to the contract, but our day of coordinator spent half of it with another bride who got married that day, and it was a little chaotic. We weren't allowed to have our tasting until after we sent our invitations, and we ended up changing our menu. They also only do tastings between 11am and 1pm Tuesday through Thursday, so neither my husband nor I were able to go. The food ended up being delicious, though. However, they only served our kitchen cakes and just chopped up our tiered cake to send home with us, and a lot of our guests complained that they didn't get cake. The wait staff and bartenders were fantastic. One other cool thing the Abbey did was take my family's "secret" whiskey slush recipe and serve it for our cocktail hour, and it was a big hit. One of the waitresses that worked the head table noticed I wasn't feeling well (it was 100 degrees) so she brought me a cold towel for my neck. The sales rep we signed the contract with would usually take a week or more to respond if I had a question from the florist or another vendor; she made a point to make me feel like I wasn't the only wedding happening there. After my day of coordinator was assigned to me 3 months out, and we were able to ask her questions instead, it was much better. She was very responsive, much easier to work with, and much nicer. Our day of coordinator made us feel special. Bottom line, I loved how my wedding turned out at the Abbey, but there were some planning irritations that occurred while working with the management, which is to be expected. If you have a planner, that won't even be your problem.

y issue we had was that we kept having different members of the team contacting us. We started with Julia who answered every one of my ridiculous questions quickly, politely, and promptly, then we had Darla who suddenly didn't work there anymore, then Maura who was also excellent. The day before, our venue wasn't set up according to the diagram they had given us (and that we had planned everything for) so Friday morning we had quite a bit of stress with moving chairs, adding tables, etc. However, when we called to work these things out, we got a DIFFERENT employee (Rachel, also quite lovely). So then the day of the wedding (April 30) everything was great, staff was friendly, place looked perfect, but again, we didn't have any of the other previously encountered ladies to coordinate. So it was a little...disorganized (we were supposed to walk in at 630 but we stood outside til 7 bc of miscommunication in the various staff members). Overall a nice place, fairly reasonable prices (as far as weddings go) and at the end of the day I still got married :). Win.

e everything was perfect the day of the wedding. She was easy to work with and such a sweet and genuine individual that I knew everything was going to be taken care of and okay the day of. We used the Abbey as our ceremony and reception venue. There was an outdoor cocktail hour that all of my guests raved about. The venue is simply beautiful and elegant. Everything the day of our wedding was smooth and coordinated! The staff was extremely pleasant and accommodating of guest allergies or any special requests. All of our guests had a wonderful time and some even said it was the best wedding they have been to. I'm so glad we went with the Abbey as our venue of choice! I will forever remember our special day and will never forget the kindness and support the Abbey staff offered my family and I! I would recommend this venue to absolutely everyone.

Roomy patio -Sitting area with couches -Skylights and gorgeous punched tin ceiling -Friendly staff with top-notch customer service

quick to respond with any and all questions you have. The space is beautiful. I have only great things to say about the 9th street abbey and everyone that works here. Wonderful job & thank you!

Where other places told us "no", 9th Street Abbey staff stepped up and made our plans/vision happen. The staff was fantastic to work with. They were so nice and accommodating. Our reception was beautiful and their staff executed all of our plans just as we had hoped.

wish the chairs that came with the space went better with the venue (venue is rustic, chairs were black banquet chairs), but Andrea (our coordinator) helped pick out a different chair option that made all the difference. The food was outstanding and earned high praise from all our friends and family (I highly recommend the Braised Short Ribs and the Truffle Mashed Potatoes.Yum!) Andrea made the whole process extremely easy she words always available and gave plenty of advice and input which gave us confidence while planning the biggest day of our lives. The only negative I had from the day was we were unable to use the outdoor patio space during our cocktail hour due to the weather. I was very excited to incorporate the outdoor element, but the weather (of course) can not be controlled.

e Beyond Broadway.

I wanted a location near downtown, affordable, a place with great reviews and something with a different look. My husband just wanted a fun place that would be casual for our guests. Beyond broadway was the perfect fit. I fell in love with the look of the place and he fell in love with bar and games. I had heard good things about Patty Long and I have to say that they were all true. We have received lots of compliments on the venue and food. I was a little scared of the location but there was no reason to be. Our guests had no problems finding the location. We had the opportunity to work with Andrea and she was fantastic. She always answered my questions quickly and really helped our day go smoothly. She is always just a fun person! Here are the things I wish I did... I wish I had done more decorations outside of just table decor. The venue is fantastic and you really can add lots of personal flare.

ccommodating. Our reception went very smoothly. The wait staff were efficient and friendly. The food was excellent! This was our biggest priority. I can't tell you how many weddings we've been to where the food leaves a lot to be desired. Not here! Overall, we were thrilled with the venue and the staff!

reception ever. Andrea did an outstanding job. She was there to help us along the way and made every one of our requests happen. Whenever we asked, can we do this or put this here her response was always yes, let me help that happen. The evening would not have run so smoothly without her. The way the venue was set up. It was big but didn't feel like you were lost or away from the action. People hung out in the bar area; played the games, danced or sat at tables. It was a magical night for all of us.
