A Cake Odyssey

We received so many compliments on our cake! It was the most delicious wedding cake we have ever tasted and our guests enjoyed it just as much! You will not be disappointed by the design or taste of their cakes! They are the best in the business!

Beautiful AND delicious! We ordered a 4 tier wedding cake with Italian cream cake, raspberry filling and buttercream frosting. Saying delicious is an understatement, it was just PERFECT. We received so many compliments from all our guests as well.

We had cake odyssey do our wedding and groomsman cake. The cake was absolutely beautiful. We were able to do our cake tasting and scheduled for a time to meet to discuss cake options. Jim was very easy to communicate with and plan with. One downfall is they close Sunday-Tuesday. But Jim returns calls quick if they are in the shop. We also used their cake stand that we rented from them and it looked absolutely beautiful. They delivered the cake to our venue and it was so easy to work with them. I didn’t have to worry about anything at all once everything was planned.

When I ordered our cake from A Cake Odyssey, I spoke with Jim, explained what I wanted, and he read it back to me. I sent a photo. My wedding planner also sent a photo. What was delivered on our wedding day bore no resemblance to what we ordered, and what was delivered was visibly not well done. Our planner was so freaked out by it that she took off without a word to a florist to buy flowers to try and make it look presentable as a wedding cake-- we obviously had to roll with it at that point. I had been so jazzed about the cake I ordered and had been talking it up to my fiancé for weeks! So it was upsetting. I called the bakery and left a message, even questioning whether this was supposed to be our cake--that's how "off" it was. I requested a call back the next morning. None came. Our planner was able to reach Jim, who confirmed he received my message and would call me. He never did. A week later our planner called again, and again was told someone would call me. No call. I sent an email to Jim expressing frustration and disappointment and requesting a refund. No call, no reply email, no refund. Basically--they messed up our cake and simply didn't care. After I posted a comment about what happened online weeks and weeks later, Jim finally reached out to me but they didn't take responsibility for messing up our cake and wasn't empathetic at all--it was a half-hearted attempt at best. We're shocked by all of this but there it is. Maybe because it was a very small order (we eloped), we simply don't matter--that, I don't know. What I do know is that we can never get that moment back--ever. :(

Jim, the owner, was the first of all the vendors I contacted for my wedding to call me back and set up an appointment. The customer service was exceptional from this moment on. Jim and Karyn have been making cakes in Santa Fe for a very long time. They know all of the other vendors and venues so planning with them is super easy. Jim made the tasting a lot of fun and all of Karyn's cakes were moist and delicious. They delivered the cake to the venue and worked with my florist to add fresh flowers. The cake was absolutely stunning. When it comes to your wedding, you need a bakery you can trust to follow through with a great product and Cake Odyssey did this expertly. As a local in Santa Fe, they are now my "go to" local bakery spot.

Cake Odyssey did a fantastic job with our wedding cake. As the groom, I really didn’t have strong opinions on the flowers, place settings, etc. But, after having attended several weddings featuring wedding cakes I could have made from a box, I knew I really wanted a great cake for our wedding. We actually had our original baker cancel a month before our wedding day and we were in a last minute scramble. Cake Odyssey saved us. They were extremely helpful in helping us make our decision and we went with something really unique. We had tons of compliments from our guests. Sadly, the cake was maybe too good because, while saying good bye to my guests, I saw two and three pieces of cake go with them. We could not be happier with our cake and Cake Odyssey’s service. We highly recommend them.

With many special considerations my wife and I chose to go with a Cake Odyssey. Months prior to our tasting I had bought samples and cupcakes and cakes from many vendors and cake shops which I then froze, flew across the country to my fiance, refroze them and then after thawing we tried each vender one by one. As a cake Odyssey cupcakes looked the messiest, from travel and plenty of icing, we had those last. I'll skip the suspense and say it was a no brainer, except for the flavor. Our tasting with Jim was fantastic and beautifully prepared. It was a time we truly felt special. We even snuck cake and cupcakes before our reception. I can't thank you two enough. We look forward to coming back every week for cupcakes. We now give them out in gifts and as favors to people. It's not much of a choice if you want better flavors and the wildflowers they put on the cupcakes looked so real. Thank you thank you thank you

Amazing!!! They made our cakes (including groom's) and cupcakes exactly how we wanted, and it was phenomenal!!! The flavors were amazing, and the decoration was spot-on to what we requested! We had a very unique theme, and our cakes fit in perfectly! Highly recommended!!!

Cake Odyssey was great from the beginning until our wedding day. The tasting was delicious and the design was everything we wanted. We also used them for our groom's cupcakes and they were amazing. On our wedding day, the cake was beautiful and tasted wonderfully. I would recommend to any bride!!

We visited several bakeries and thought this bakery was flashy and made beautiful fondant cakes (pretty, but not tasty), but were overall over priced. We also felt that the staff were pushy and abrupt when trying to schedule tastings etc. We ended up going to a local baker for a beautiful, and delicious, wedding cake that ended up being a star at our reception. This is probably a good baker for you if you like fondant cakes and brand names, as they will tell you multiple times that they have been featured on TV.

Our whole experience with A Cake Odyssey was truly amazing! From the time we set up our cake tasting to the actual day of the wedding was awesome! They were so professional and accommodating for us. We went to their place and had a wonderful cake tasting session, so professional and so delicious. We ended up with 3 cakes! A brides cake, grooms cake and a gluten free cake, which all were delicious! I took photos in for what I wanted the brides and grooms cake to look like and they came through. Super accommodating and nice people! I will go to them for any of my bakery needs from here on out!

Moist and delicious cake

We got the "fanfare" cake from A Cake Odyssey. This cake almost got more attention than my dress! It is a work of art and the cake tastes INCREDIBLE. This is the second time I've ordered a cake from this vendor and they never disappoint.

Based on some glowing reviews from my aunt and mother, we decided to go with Cake Odyssey for our wedding. After tasting, we ordered the cake we wanted(Lemon Poppy with Rolled Marshmallow Fondant) and paid in full that day. Four days before the wedding, we get a call from the salesman advising he made a mistake and that we owe him an additional $200 as he charged us for butter cream and not rolled fondant despite being clearly marked on the original receipt. We gained agreement that we would not be paying the additional $200 and we would have rolled fondant on our wedding cake. When we arrived to our reception, the cake that was delivered was not what we ordered but a buttercream substitute. When this was called out to the owner, his response was "that we were being petty" and "the cake was beautiful". Well I agree the cake was beautiful and it was delicious, it was not what we paid for or ordered. It is a shame that their customer service is so poor and does not match the deliciousness of their product.

We originally started with another bakery in town, but were very disappointed with the service we received; thanks to a recommendation from friends and both our mothers, we made an appointment with Cake Odyssey and were instantly in love. The cake samples were all moist and the flavors were SO good. As an out of town bride, that was the only time I was able to go in person to see the bakers and everything still went incredibly smoothly. I also ordered a groom's cake from them, and it was delicious, the detail was incredible, and it was a lot less than I was expecting to pay for such an awesome cake. Our guests couldn't stop raving about our cakes, we loved the flavor and all the cake was SO moist.

We ordered an italian cream cake with bavarian filling and buttercream frosting...to die for! We got so many compliments on it, and it looked beautiful. I took off 1 star only because the man who helps you isn't super personable...but if you can get past that, it'll be a delicious cake!

I highly recommend A Cake Odyssey. Not only are their cakes delicious but they look amazing too. Jim was extremely nice and easy to work with.

From our first tasting to the wedding day I looked forward to another bite of our delicious cakes - it was just as delicious on our wedding day and the presentation was beautiful! Exactly what we hoped for and at a good price, also.

A Cake Odyssey make our turquoise and white lovebird and calla lily cake for our wedding. It was a beautiful two-tier almond cake with amaretto filling. The cake was absolutely beautiful and delicious! We are sad that we will have to wait a year to eat the top tier!

The cake flavors and options were delicious. The price was just too rich for my blood. I was also discouraged by their record keeping , calling me every month or two asking if I wanted to book them when I'd told them repeatedly I'd gone with another cake vendor.

Im serious I went to 5 different cake tastings in Albuquerque and Odyssey was by far the best. All the other cake places tasted like a good grocery store cake. During the tasting they treat you like kings and everything is brought out on beautiful serving trays. One small factor was that they do four layers of cake so its cake-filling-cake-filling-cake-filling-cake this was a big deal to me because most places only do cake-filling-cake which means you dont get the true flavor in every bite because you are over loaded with cake. I was also afraid that cake places served you the best slice on tasting day but then wedding day not so much this was NOT the case with Odyssey! My uncle and I used Odyssey for our weddings and the wedding day cake knocked both our shoes off!!! I would highly highly recomend them to friends

I wasn't terribly excited after my husband held out during our wedding planning negotiations for a cake instead of cupcakes, mini-pies, or any other alternative desserts out there. I had been to multiple weddings, and always found the cake to be dry and not all that interesting. Boy am I glad that my husband won that one! The deliciousness that Jim and his team from A Cake Odyssey served up at my wedding is enough to make anybody want to crash weddings, birthday parties, and other celebrations where their baked goods are featured! The cake was so moist, and the filling so creamy! Even the velvety frosting was smooth and melted in your mouth. The presentation was just as we had described to Jim during our tasting. My only complaint - however small - is that we felt more like a number than a customer whose business Jim cared about snagging. He was always professional, but we didn't get the sense that he was interested in spending much time with us to win our business. I suppose that with a product as good as his, there really isn't a need to woo their customers as we found other vendors did in this process. That being said, I would absolutely use this bakery's services again. I am already looking forward to eating that slice of cake that we froze for our 1st wedding anniversary!

We used A Cake Odyssey for our wedding and were very pleased with the outcome. We wanted a small cake for cutting and 100 cupcakes to serve our guests. The cake they made matched the wedding perfectly and the cupcakes were amazing. Most importantly everything tasted great!

I will tell you right now, on my wedding day I was pretty upset. My cake was supposed to be bright yellow at the bottom and fade up to white. It came to me BRIGHT BLUE!!! I couldn't take away all their stars because it was delicious and they refunded me some money but all things considered I won't be recommending them or going back.

When the cake arrived, it was better than the one I chose in the book! Tasted great! Delivery on time! Great price! Looked gorgeous! Highly recommend!

We had a groom's cake and a cupcake tower (with two different types of cupcakes) and everything was delicious. They make everything fresh (absolutely no freezing) and not only are their products delicious but they are also beautiful. From our tasting to deciding exactly what we wanted to delivery, the process was fun and easy and had excellent results.

The cake testing was great. They gave us time to decide and gave us many samples. The cake was delivered without any problems and the guests raved about it and asked for seconds. It was moist and flavorful. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

I could not have been happier with our cake, we went with a carrot cake and it was delicious and very pretty decorated with fresh flowers from the florist. They were very easy to work with and very reliable. Highly recommended!

For our wedding we got a 5 tier white cake with apricot filling can you say yummy. My husband got one teir chocolate cake with raspberry filling and he loved that one. They made me a beautiful cake that not only looked good but that tasted delish and that was one of my main concerns.my event was Also 2 hours away from their shop but my cake was still fresh. My cake is and always will be something great to talk about.

The cake was absolutely beautiful, and equally tasty. I provided a picture of what I wanted the cake to look like, and it was even better!

This was the best cake, it was full of flavor and so moist! Everyone raved about how great it is! This will be the cake shop for us for all our cake needs!!!

I had a specialty shape cake request and paid the inflated price for it, which I was fully willing to do to get what I wanted. I gave A Cake Odyssey a large swatch of the colors to use on the cake (coral, sage, ivory, brown) and requested that fondant be used because I like the look of it. I also ordered 60 cupcakes in 4 flavors each that would have one of each of the colors from the swatch to color the tops of the cupcakes. The day of my wedding, I saw the cake and cupcakes and could not believe how everything came out- the cake was black and it and the cupcakes did not have any of the colors from my swatch, not ONE! The black icing on the cake made everyone's teeth greenish-blue, including mine. I made the best of it at the time but I am still very disappointed that my order wasn't at all what I wanted or paid for, despite how descriptive I was in the ordering process.

Albuquerque is limited in cake options. Everyone goes with ABC cakes, but I had a friend that worked there and told me horror stories of the lack of sanitary conditions. A Cake Odyssey is fantastic. I was so pleased with how delicious our cake was. Everything was handmade, they designed the cake to the drawing I gave them, and delivered it on time. All my guests commented on how delicious it was. I wanted to have a great tasting cake if we were going to spend this much money and I'm glad I paid a little more to get great flavors. They rank about in the middle for wedding cake prices. You can visit their shop and buy cupcakes with the flavors they offer for the cakes, so I'm happy I can get more of their Italian Cream flavor anytime I want. Karen was fantastic. She did a great job! We knew from our cake tasting that this would be the company we would go with. This is by far the best cake company!

our wedding cupcakes were delicious and were exactly what we were hoping for! we also got married on my dad's birthday, and a cake odyssey helped us include a birthday cake celebration for him at the reception! the lemon cake at a cake odyssey is to die for!

It was a wonderful cake and it tasted fabulous. The only problem was that one of the pins to hold a curve in place remained in the cake. That's more the hotel's fault than the bakers however.

Great tasting cake and great people to work with!

I anxiously waited for my cake all day the day of our wedding- like a little kid, I was so excited to see it! But, I was so happy everyone made me wait and saw it with my husband for the first time. It was PERFECT! I just gave them a picture and they knocked it out of the park! Not only was it gorgeous, it was delicious- some of the best cake I have ever had! Karyn and her staff are obviously very talented, but they truly impressed me!

Our topsey-turvey cake tasted great and looked nice, but it wasn't the design we asked for. Our designer didn't know what I was talking about for the design so I sent him pictures. It was still not correct. If you want a particular design, be sure to be specific and send LOTS of pictures.

Amazing is the only word to use to describe the cake. It was exactly what the bride and groom wanted. The cake tasted as good as it looked. This is a must if you want a great looking cake that is full of flavor. We had people wanting 2 - 3 pieces of it.

Karen's cakes are the most delicious things you will ever try. They are what wedding cakes are supposed to be: beautiful and tasty. Working with her and her husband at Cake Odyssey was a pleasure. They were sensitive to our budget and gave us the most cake for what we paid for. Our only disappointment was a little smudging on the decoration when the cake was delivered to the venue, but Karen worked with me personally after the event to correct the problem.

Great tasting cake! On the day of the wedding though, the cake was late. We called and they were pretty rude on the phone..

I loved our wedding cake, it was both delicious and gorgeous. It looked perfect with the other wedding decorations!

A Cake Odyssey was fantastic! They listened to my ideas for the design of the cake, showed me some pictures of their work and allowed me to show them what I liked, and then they offered creative suggestions. Our cake was beautiful! They captured the simple elegance that we wanted with a three tiered white cake with raspberry filling and buttercream frost - red roses, green leaves, tiny blue flowers, and blue butterflies. I will definitely use them again for special occassions.

My inlaws are STILL telling me how fantastic our chocolate hazelnut cake was on Oct 24. Our cake was beautiful and delicious. Because this bakery/decorator is in Alb instead of Santa Fe, the price was right, too. Yay, Cake Odyssey!

I was recommended this cake place by every one of my other vendors. I wasn't sure why they had changed the name but we took a trip down to the shop and tasted the different varieties of cake. Everything they had was delicious! They had a bunch of options for cakes be we wanted something simple and they put together exactly what I had in mind. Great stuff!

Compared to their books and past work, our modern/sleek cake was a let down aesthetically. It was delicious, but somewhat of an eye-sore.

The cake tasted amazing!!! Everyone thought it was the best wedding cake they have ever had. They did exactly what I wanted for my cake and it looked amazing. The only complaint I have is during the final meeting I felt like he was not listening to me. But I can not complain about the results. If you can stand up for yourself and say no despite criticism than go for them. The results are worth it.

We didn't think we were going to have a formal wedding cake. Then one day we were watching "Ace of Cakes" on the Food TV channel, and there it was... The most perfect cake ever to go with the theme of our wedding. So we took in a photo of the cake (yes, we took a picture of the tv image) and they were able to make it look almost EXACTLY the same and JUST like what we wanted. The only down-side wast that the samples/flavors were less than we hoped for, but in order to get the looks we wanted we decided it was ok to sacrifice the flavor. However, our actual wedding cake turned out to be moist and much more flavorful than what we expected, so that was a nice surprise. Bottom line- If there is a specific look you want, take in a photo and they will replicate it amazingly.

My DH and I tried several bakeries, this one was the best. We did a cupcake wedding cake, plus a cutting cake and a Penn State groomscake and everything turned out so good. We had so many compliments on our cakes. People said it was the best cake they'd ever had. (FYI, they used to go by Unique Cakes by Karyn). I highly recommend to any New Mexico bride.
