A Family Affair of Maine is comprised of a team of creatives helping couples and families to create celebrations that are meaningful and unique to their personal story. The company's inception was September of 2010, but Owner and Creative Director Paula Cano has been professionally planning and designing events for a total of 19 years. With a sincere love of the industry (and humans!) Paula has worked with more than 1,000 couples, families and businesses over time. A Family Affair offers a range of services from consultation to full service planning and design.

Jordan, Paula, and their incredible team were absolutely amazing! From our very first meeting to the big day itself, they went above and beyond to make sure everything came together seamlessly. Their attention to detail, organization, and calming presence made the entire planning process stress-free and actually enjoyable. They truly exceeded all of my expectations. Every little detail was thought through and perfectly executed. Thanks to them, our wedding day was absolutely perfect, and I didn’t have to worry about a thing. I couldn’t imagine having done this without them. If you're looking for planners who are professional, thoughtful, and genuinely care about making your day unforgettable, Jordan and Paula are it. Could not recommend enough!!
My husband Ben and I were married at the Maine Classic Car Museum in Arundel 8/23/2025. To better align with the overall vibe of the venue, we wanted to do a cocktail style reception for our guests, which included multiple lounge sections under our tent. As soon as I came across A Family Affair, I knew their gorgeous furniture was going to be a perfect match to the aesthetic of our event. Paula was so helpful throughout the planning process, and was even able to coordinate some subrentals from another vendor for some cocktail table sets I was in love with!
Everything from the first inquiry to the ordering, delivery, set up and pickup was seamless. When the tent ended up in a slightly different location than on the floor plan, the panic set in for me that my vision was not going to be able to come to life as planned. Pete stepped in and helped me pivot with placement! Our big day exceeded my expectations more than I could have imagined and our family and friends absolutely loved the special touches that the AFA rentals brought to the event! The quality of these beautiful elements are absolutely outstanding. I wish I had more pictures and cannot wait for our profession photos!

We had the pleasure of planning our wedding with them for the past two years, and the outcome was a GORGEOUS wedding that was truly us, with thoughtful details and an overall incredible day. They took so much stress and uncertainty out of wedding planning, and empowered us to be true decision makers with all of the hard work and research handled completely. It made the process not just stress-free but FUN! We felt so supported and celebrated and cared for. We recommend Family Affair to anyone wanting a personalized, memorable, and magical Maine wedding and the most calming and lovely wedding day support team!!
Kimberly from AFA is AMAZING. This is someone you want leading up to your wedding and there with you on your wedding day. She was so incredibly patient with all of my wants/questions and is seriously skilled at what she does. She helped make my wedding weekend the success that it was. She is sweet, professional, and dependable.
We had additional help from other AFA staff members throughout the weekend and I can say that they were ALL so accommodating and nice. What a great company to work with. We did end up having to rent some umbrellas from them which I feel were honestly a bit overpriced (~$500 including delivery/pick up fee for 80 umbrellas) but unfortunately that's the case with a lot of things in the wedding industry. Overall 10/10 for AFA!!
Paula's team was incredible. They helped us from day one of our planning process, a whole 16 months before our actual wedding date, and helped us bring our vision to life. And many times, our vision was just a few ideas that they put together into something incredible. Their team is top notch, communicative and full of love and attention for each event. We cannot recommend them more highly!
Paula & her team did a fantastic job with the coordination and design of our May 2022 wedding! Right after we got engaged, someone told us that a planner is the best money we would spend. With Paula and team, it couldn’t be more true! In addition to aligning many vendors and ensuring no detail was missed, they created a stunning environment. Our ceremony, reception and cocktail areas were beautifully laid out.
Outside of their organization and design talents, Paula & her team were wonderful to work with. They are fun, thoughtful and accommodating. Due to Covid, our wedding was postponed 3 times. They were extremely understanding during the rescheduling process, and offered valuable insights as we were navigating a time of many unknowns.
BEST DECISION EVER... well besides the decision to marry my husband :) The entire team at A Family Affair of Maine exceeded my expectations and made every tiny detail at my wedding memorable. As a former event planner, I was confident that I could handle the wedding details. Boy was I wrong. As soon as I met Kim at AFA, she took all my worries/stress and turned it into a well executed plan. There were so many small things that came up in the two weeks leading up to my wedding that AFA not only took care of, but went above and beyond for Rob and me. The day of my wedding I was able to enjoy every single moment and not worry about a single thing because of how skilled Kim is at her job. She was there for EVERY SINGLE question I had, providing answers that I would have never even thought of. Another amazing benefit of working with AFA is their robust rental inventory that took my wedding's overall look to the next level. Professional, kind, creative, truly incredible is how I would describe my entire experience with A Family Affair.
We worked with A Family Affair with the full planning package for our wedding, and we're so happy that we did! Not only did Paula and Jordan coordinate countless details across a large set of vendors to create a totally stress-free environment for me on wedding day (a big deal for a bride!), they also used their amazing artistry and vision to produce the wedding of our dreams. Paula took my ideas, iterated on them, and then brought them to life in the MOST gorgeous way, above and beyond anything I could have imaged - she is a true artist!
Beyond their creativity and detail orientation, Paula and Jordan were a blast to work with. Though wedding planning can be a stressful process, their enthusiasm and excitement around all of the little details made the planning process so much fun.
A Family Affair was awesome to work with! They were easy and fast to communicate with and were able to answer all our questions for our wedding in October. They had no problem at all with tweaking our rental order during the process as well! Definitely recommend them!
Paula and her crew are incredible! We hired them to design and plan our wedding this past summer. Everyone on Paula's team is incredibly talented, creative, and equally kind and fun to work with! They took our ideas and ran with them to create the wedding of our dreams. They thought of every detail - big and small - to ensure that it all ran smoothly. She troubleshooted any issues that arose beautifully and effortlessly. She advocated for us with vendors and also recommended some of the most amazing vendors to add to our team. We got to fully enjoy our day with our family and friends because of Paula and her team! We are forever thankful to AFA of Maine!
This place is a treasure! Absolutely lovely items that allowed me to select and curate our wedding look, from the blue and white mismatched china to the antique silver. I was able to create the exact table settings I wanted.
Paula and her team are amazing! We worked closely with Jordan and Paula to help design our wedding and the final result was perfect. Guests all commented on how beautiful everything was—from the lighting to the hand-drawn seating assignment list. Highly recommend!
Paula and her team are so wildly talented! They took our vision and turned it into a reality more beautiful and perfect (and fun!!!) than we could’ve dreamed. Paula’s creative eye, attention to details, and thorough planning were evident throughout our entire planning process. We told her everything we wanted, and she found a way to deliver every single thing we requested in a way that felt cohesive, creative, and unique.
Our guests and family were truly blown away by our wedding, as were we. Paula and Marie were the ones to make it all happen, and we are forever grateful!! We are so glad we opted for the full planning service in addition to design - we never could have pulled off such a party without them.
Last thing to mention is how FUN Paula and her team made wedding planning. We truly love Paula and Marie, and the day after the wedding we both said “isn’t it sad we won’t be talking to them all the time anymore!?”
I used AFA’s prop rentals for my 2020 wedding. Their offerings are beautiful and high quality. Paula and Jordan were fantastic in helping me select the right items, and were accommodating of my many order changes as we adapted to COVID-19 regulations. I highly recommend AFA!
We originally reached out to A Family Affair because we really loved the aesthetic of their rental items. We were able to rent some really unique pieces for our wedding ceremony and reception decor. The process was very easy. A Family Affair worked with us to figure out what we needed and was very easy to communicate with throughout the whole process. We had several pieces that required calligraphy, which all came out beautifully. Their dropoff and pickup process was seamless and quick and our venue commented on how great they were to work with. Everything was exactly how it was shown and described on their website and made our event unique and special. We would highly recommend A Family Affair for one of a kind pieces and high quality service for any event.
We planned and designed our wedding on our own, so we were thrilled to find such a great selection of unique and interesting items at A Family Affair to add the special touches we were looking for and make our wedding feel more like us, from signs, to tables, to furniture, to cake stands, and more. Working with the team there was incredibly easy, and the whole rental process was very smooth. We'd definitely rent from them for future events.
Family Affair of Maine is literally the best. Our original wedding planner went MIA about 3 weeks before our wedding, then we started reading horrible reviews online that our original vendor was not showing up to weddings or showing up with the wrong rentals. In a panic, we decided to cancel our contract (3 WEEKS OUT) and gave A Family Affair of Maine a call. They literally dropped everything and SAVED OUR WEDDING. They were attentive and understanding and incredibly helpful. We were able to re-plan our wedding in 3 weeks because Paula and her team are the best. Our guests had no idea that everything was planned in 3 weeks and even complimented how beautiful everything looked! I can't imagine how great it would have been if we had a whole year to plan! Their day-of coordinators were also outstanding and incredibly reliable. I can't say enough great things about this company and its people. They saved our wedding.

Paula and Courtney are amazing and flawlessly executed our vision! They helped us plan for over a YEAR! They have endless patients to handle all the stuff I didn't want to! They were never pushy and always stuck to our vision! They are the best!
Paula was my day of coordinator. She also does full coordination services, but since I didn't use that service, I can't comment on it. However, her day of coordination services were fantastic. She helped with the planning to make sure I was on track with everything. She made sure that the last three months of planning went as they were supposed to. She constructed a timeline and confirmed everything with the vendors. She took care of problems that arose on the wedding day. My mom later told me about some of the problems, but on the day of, I didn't even know there were problems. She made sure that I had everything I needed on my wedding day. She was so nice and working with her was like working with a friend. She was very encouraging, and when I became anxious about something, she was quick to put me at ease and remind me that everything would be fine and taken care of. Paula was very willing to have meetings on the phone and in person. She promptly responded to emails. She was truly delightful to work with.
