The lack of communication with A Matter of Taste is tragic. I filled out their contact form on their website and got an automated email on how the venue works. I then sent a follow up email with our information and questions we had regarding the venue. I never heard back, so I called the venue the following week... the phone rang and rang then to find out their voicemail box is "full". There was literally no way for me to contact them. I called at different times of the day as well and still no answer. I sent a total of 4 emails and to this day have never heard back from them. We have obviously moved on with another venue that communicates appropriately but if you are looking at A Matter of Taste for your wedding venue, proceed with caution.
Ginny and Gregg are incredible. They are kind, engaging, and so so talented at what they do. We utilized them for a reception venue as well as our caterer and everything was insanely perfect. They are very relaxed and laid back and you can certainly see why. They know their property, this business, and the ins and outs of every little detail. They are so experienced that it literally took away all of the stress of the wedding. Not to mention the food is incredible! Everything is locally sourced and fresh and you can certainly tell. Also, the property alone is stunning!!! This is such a gem and I had so many people ask how we found it! Do not let this place pass you by, I would work with Ginny and Gregg over and over again!
If you're looking for a wedding caterer in Northern Michigan look no further. Ginny and her team catered our Hotel Walloon wedding last month and we are so pleased with everything. The service was efficient, the food was warm and delicious and the staff did a phenomenal job overall. We were able to get a tasting prior to making the commitment which I found to be very comforting. I would 100% recommend Matter of Taste at Tapawingo to anyone in the search of the perfect northern Michigan caterer. Thank you Ginny and team!
We used A Matter of Taste for the catering for our wedding and the food was SO amazing, everyone was very pleased. However throughout the process the communication with them was difficult. I would get no response to emails or it would take a long time. However, I tried to remember that they are running a restaurant and a catering company so they were extremely busy. Although it was a bit frustrating, I do not regret using them. They were excellent the night of the wedding, the service was great and the food was delicious.
Thank you Ginny and Jarod for making my wedding day so incredibly delicious! You both went out of your way to create a menu that would accommodate all of my guests. The vegan meal was absolutely amazing and I received many compliments on this dish. The cauliflower steak and romesco sauce was out of this world and the salad dressing was the best I've ever tasted. If you are looking for a wedding caterer who will accommodate your special dietary needs you can not go wrong with A Matter Of Taste! It was a pleasure to work with you both. Thank you again and wish you both well in the new year!
The food was absolutely wonderful but the only reason I am giving them 3 stars is due to the communication. Too many emails went unanswered for weeks or months and I had to follow up so many times before they would reply. It was extremely frustrating when you are trying to plan and keep track of so many things for your wedding. I really hope they get that piece of their business together as they would increase their business and rating.
A Matter of Taste was generous enough to donate their services during the annual Castle Farms Military Wedding Giveaway Contest. Ginny and her staff were excellent to work with and went above and beyond for us. The food was out of this world and was such a highlight to our amazing wedding! They really saved our behinds when I slacked on some of the planning. Even though we planned all the way from Florida (without tasting the food), everything turned out perfectly! We also utilized them for their bartending services. The bartender was lively and polite. We loved everything about this experience and would recommend to anyone looking for a yummy meal at their wedding!
Amazing Food...Fantastic Servers...Wonderful Owners!! Our guests will not stop talking about how great the food was! They were on top of every detail from the beginning to the end and I'm so glad we had them a part of our special day!
We loved working with Ginny and her family. Our daughters rehearsal dinner was at Tapawingo for 60 people. The food was delicious. It was served family style. Caesar Salad, Chicken Tetrazzini, green beans. The service was wonderful and the setting couldn't be beat! Ginny & Gregg shared their passion for what they do with us and their was no question who we wanted to go with. Their son also played the guitar during cocktail hour. He is an amazing musician and added to help make the evening a special one!
They also catered the wedding reception at Castle Farms for 200 guest. I was complimented by many people how great the appetizers were. The dinner was Michigan Salad, filet/chicken duet with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. We were pleased with everything! I would highly recommend working with Ginny & Gregg. They also took care of purchasing the alcohol for us and for a reasonable cost that gave us peace of mind that it was taken care of.
Ginny was amazing to work with! We were able to create our own menu from start to finish! Any questions, concerns or changes we wanted to make she was a doll with. Her staff was incredibly attentive to our needs, were very respectful & accommodating to even our guests who had some food allergies. Everyone who came to our wedding said that the food was the best wedding food they've ever had & almost everyone was able to have seconds. The bartender made the perfect drinks, was polite & professional.
We were very pleased with A Matter of Taste for our wedding last weekend. Ginny was great to work with. She answered my emails and provided us with a wonderful tasting.
We received a ton of compliments on our food. The wait staff was awesome. One particular waiter was amazing to me and my husband. The bar tender was great too!
We did have two issues. We were told they could hold our ice cream, but it ended up melting and not working out. Also, we had one table that was supposed to be completely nut free due to an allergy but they were served nuts on their salads. That table ended up not having salad.
However, no issues came of it and everyone was happy.
They were reasonably priced compared to other that could cater at Castle Farms. For the quality of food you are totally get your money's worth. It was delicious! You must try the beef dish and the pasta side dish! :)
While planning our wedding in Traverse City, my husband and I considered a handful of caterers. We were drawn to A Matter of Taste because of their focus on seasonal, local ingredients, and their willingness to work in Traverse City. We opted for family style service with a plated salad; all of our guests loved the food. Ginny was helpful during the planning process, going through place setting options and table setup.
**Note: we found that the phone was the best way to reach A Matter of Taste.
AMOT did not communicate well what so ever. The day of my wedding the owner called to talk about bar tending services I already had. The night of my wedding they came to my parents then myself asking for our final payment!!! Which we already paid months in advance! How embarrassing! They said their computers crashed, and didn't have record. Thankfully I kept all my emails And I had proof of payment. The food was good minus their stuffed ravioli which was empty. My mother inlaw called to see what the deal was and the owner fully knew and stated she noticed after they cooked them that all the stuff came out- and yet they served it. This company does NOT have good communication skills- and lack serious organization. Id rather have catered my own wedding... That's how stressful they made it for us. It's not worth the price. Period.
If good communication skills are important to you, run! A Matter of Taste consistently failed to answer phone calls and emails. We signed with them because they simply tasted best. But the months of trying to figure out a plan was torture. They were unresponsive and had SO MANY mistakes in their invoice. They conveniently forgot to deduct our deposit from the final bill. We pointed this out and it wasn't corrected until their third attempt. As for the foods: Our cheese platter was supposed to come with fruits. Nope, only cheese. We were promised appetizers will keep coming if guests finish them. Nope, appetizers ran out quickly. The meats were dry (overcooked) and the pasta was raw/undercooked. Overall, AMOT needs to get their acts together.
A Matter of Taste catered our wedding at Castle Farms. We are not from the area and we had 164 out of town quests. We had a rehearsal dinner for immediate family and our wedding party as well as a Sunday Brunch for all of our wedding guests at her establishment. She was very flexible and worked with us to ensure we could pull off everything we envisioned for the weekend. We met with other caterers in the area, but her flexibility and commitment to serving high quality food with exceptional service was not comparable. We decided on family style service for the wedding and it worked out perfectly - our family and friends are accustomed to high quality meals (its the norm where we live), and they all raved about the food and everyone had more than enough to eat - this is often a complaint when we are out of our home town for events. We were pleased to present all of our travelling guests with wonderful food for the entire weekend. Ginny ensured all of the little details we were hoping for happened by recommending local vendors to rent items from and working with other service providers to communicate our wishes. Our Sunday brunch was perfect; An amazing spread was set up throughout the late morning and early afternoon. Ginny's help was invaluable for us - planning an out of town wedding can be trying, but she did everything in her power to ensure we were satisfied and the weekend lived up to our expectations - it surpassed our expectations - We wouldn't have had such a wonderful experience without her and the food was TO DIE FOR! We would recommend A Matter of Taste to anyone planning an event in the area. Their spot on the lake is absolutely gorgeous and when we went for our tasting we knew we wanted to add it to our weekend agenda. Her staff was very pleasant and Ginny and her husband are a dedicated team, doing everything in their power to enhance your experience, fill your stomachs, and surpass your greatest expectations - for us, they did all of that and more!
Ginny made our dream wedding possible! That sounds dramatic but it is beyond true. We wanted a backyard wedding at my parent’s lake house on Burt Lake. The first caterer we met with wanted an insane amount of money that would use the majority of our wedding budget and needed us to rent all equipment for her. After choosing a venue in Petoskey my parents could tell I was not happy and told me to try again and find a caterer that would make our dream wedding work. I found Ginny!! Ginny had all equipment and was enthusiastic to make our backyard wedding possible with great food as well! The food was amazing! My Uncle (from New York) has continuously been requesting the salad recipe! Having Ginny, her husband Gregg and her staff at our home to make us dinner felt like having family there! They were flexible when the timing of dinner changed a bit and always were smiling! A great surprise was Shannon; A Matter of Taste’s catering coordinator. I cannot say enough about Shannon’s upbeat, bright personality. She even synched with the guitarist to send the bridal party out for the processional, keeping us all calm and focused. Being a backyard DIY wedding, we needed all the help we could get and Shannon helped make the details fall into place! I guarantee after meeting Ginny and Gregg for a tasting you will have no doubts, absolutely amazing people and food! Xoxo!
Wonderful service, great food!
The organization/booking process was a little tedious, and there was a lot of unreturned calls, unreturned emails, etc throughout the entire time up to the day of the wedding. The appetizers for the cocktail hour were about 30 minutes late and got cold surprisingly quick. The dinner was prompt and was served very nicely and professionally, however the taste was a bit bland and the beef bourgeon was not stew-like with the amount of vegetables it should have, it was more like dry-like pieces of beef with one potato to the side, not what it should've been. Same with the chicken, the sauce that I'm guessing should've been served on top of the chicken breast, wasn't there (or barely) so the chicken although tasty was a tad dry. Same with the green beans, pretty bland. Overall a pleasant experience and decently priced, but not exactly what I had in mind for our wedding.
The food was greatb& they were able to creat a few things at our request!
