We could not recommend dance lessons with John and Maria more highly! We took 6 lessons with John and Maria in the months leading up to our wedding, and went from having next to zero experience and confidence to a beautiful and fun first dance! We had multiple people tell us that watching our first dance was actually the highlight of the day for them! John and Maria's approach to a first dance is very low key, and instead of choreographing a dance, they set out to give you the skills to dance with anyone (not just your spouse), to a variety of music (not just your chosen first dance song). This approach has served us well as we've been able to apply the skills they taught us to other weddings we've attended in the past few months. It was helpful having two instructors as well, because they were able to dance with each of us to show us pointers specific to leading and following. They were very patient in all of our lessons, and realistic with what they thought we could accomplish for our wedding dance based on our skill set and the time we had leading up to the event. If you want a stress-free and fun first dance, we'd highly recommend lessons with John and Maria!

ther options we had looked at. I was nervous that price was so low, but John and Maria truly were delightful teachers. They focused on ensuring we knew how to dance comfortably with each other in a classy, beautiful way, with plenty of moves to execute at our leisure during our dance. We started the first lesson by walking, and then walking together, and “listening to each other’s bodies.” So cool! Do not go here if you are the kind of person that needs a choreographed dance number that looks rehearsed with no sort of improv. Come here if you want a casual experience learning how to dance, they’ll teach you as much as you can handle at an incredible value! My wife and I both have rhythm but have no formal dance training and got compliments on our dance and how natural we looked out there, which in my opinion, is so much better than the awkward, uber-focused look you get from a 100% choregraphed song.

roying and SERIOUSLY ONE OF MY WORST IDEAS EVER !!! Thank gd the lovely folks at JORIA do this for a living, because apparently the wedding is still on. Now, John & Maria (my instructors) are probably going to kill me for saying this, but I got so much out of the free mini-lesson that I almost felt as if I could wing it from there. But I remembered my initial disastrous attempts and signed up for the 4 lesson package. I’ve studied with a lot of excellent people, but I’ve never had leading and following explained so well—their instruction is kind of a Rosetta Stone for couples dancing. Plus they managed to shore up my FI’s tattered self esteem (sorry, honey) and give us both a sense of being in control of the whole first dance experience. Can’t thank you enough J&M! Looking forward to a great experience this evening!

We were so overwhelmed with Wedding details, that we didn't get around to contacting John & Maria until 8 days before the ceremony! These accomodating folks, didn't blink, didn't ...

lecture, and got us moving around the floor in the very first lesson! By the 2nd lesson they even had us doing a few fancy twirls; they gave us an opening and a finish and we were done! If we had known how much fun this was going to be we probably would have started sooner. Oh well, lesson learned. Thanks guys, it really was stressfree.

I was really on the fence about spending money on wedding dance lessons. We were on tight budget, and it did seem like something it would be OK to skip. Also my FI was more than ...

a little resistant to the idea. Long story short, I'm glad we did this. We were married in 08, and we still remember our lessons, and our wedding dance with pleasure. John and Maria (the teachers) were so successful at getting Sven (my now husband) to relax that we were moving around the floor in the first lesson. And, surprise, surprise, Sven decided that he really liked dancing--so now it's something we do on our "date nights." There are other fancier places to study, I'm sure, but for really competent, down to earth, unpretentious instructors-this is the place to go!
