We looked around for the most affordable entertainment vendor for our wedding and we were skeptical based on the reviews, at first. I'm so glad we were wrong. David Asing delivered and made the hula a fun interactive experience for our guests, had great fire dagger show performance, and even sang during our first dance. His price also can't be beat. If we had to nitpick although we didn't mind, might be the slow communication (he's a performer. Nuff said) but David still exceeded our expectations. Anyone thinking about getting married in Oahu should hire Akahi Productions!
David Asing was our assigned musician for our wedding ceremony at Turtle Bay. He played the wrong song for the bride to walk down the aisle to. The bride even told the cameraman to tell him the correct song but he ended up playing the exit song. So disappointed!
We booked David Asing for live entertainment during our reception through our trusted wedding planner (Forever by Ingrid) and they did not disappoint! We thought it was going to be just a few hula performances and fire throwing show, but the team made it so much more interactive for all of our guests. Everyone had fun joining in to learn the Hukilau dance - although it was a lot more complicated and fast for the guests we had, but everyonew as a good sport! David and his team were amazing even for the short time we had them booked for and I highly recommend them for anyone's event/wedding!
We used the team for our wedding reception in an attempt to create a "private luau" feel and it was probably our favorite part of the entire night. David is quickly responsive and catered to a package that met our budget--super competitive pricing compared to other companies! We ended up having David perform guitar/vocals and had two hula dancers and a fire knife dancer with drummer. I have no words to describe how fun this was. We kept it a surprise for everyone (our parents didn't even know this was happening!), and the looks on their faces when the dancers came out were priceless. The pure joy was contagious! Could not recommend enough.
David did a fantastic job for our Luau Rehearsal Dinner at the Turtle Bay Resort.
David and his production company were awesome.
His voice and his entertainment, the dancers, the fire eating show,
Selection of music, I can go on and on.
He killed it. It was an event for the ages and highly recommend him for anyone who wants to do something top notch!
David did a great job. Would hire him again.
We had our wedding in Waikiki last month and hired David Asing. He was fantastic on the day of, playing and singing beautifully for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner, and he was also an awesome DJ. Our guests really enjoyed having him there, and his prices are very reasonable. He followed everything on the timeline and did a good job setting the right mood for every part of the wedding.
We would give David 5 stars for how great he was on the day of the wedding, except that leading up to it, we had a very hard time getting in touch with him and getting responses to questions. It had us nervous about whether he was even going to show up, or if he would know what was going on. Several times he responded to questions with one word answers that didn't seem friendly or professional. With the song that I requested for me to walk down the aisle, we asked him if he could share a little clip of it so that we would know what it would sound like. He said he had to learn it, and even though he had about 10 months to do it, we never received a clip and about 2 months prior to the wedding, he texted asking if we could pick a different song because he didn't have time to learn it. In the end, he did learn it and did a great job with it, but we had no idea what would happen until I was walking down the aisle. It was really difficult to get him on the phone to talk about the timeline even a few weeks prior to the wedding. Honestly, if we didn't have an incredible day-of coordinator who I knew would make sure David did things at the right time and who assured us that he would really deliver on the day of, we would have been panicking because we weren't sure if David cared at all about our wedding.
We are super grateful for how wonderfully he played, sang, and performed on the day of our wedding. But we would have appreciated a more timely and professional communication, and a little more effort to plan with us.
David and the staff were amazing! David is a very talented musician. The hula show and fire dance was phenomenal!
David Asing is an incredible musician! We had several songs with specific word changes and starting points for our ceremony. He was flexible and ensured each song and timing matched exactly how we wanted it! He arrived early to the wedding and implemented beautiful transitions between each song. He has an amazing voice, played the guitar beautifully and he created a truly magical ambiance for our ceremony! We would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a live musician!
We love David Asing! He and his ukulele provided such a warm, Hawaiian welcome for our wedding guests in September 2021. He is very friendly and talented, and we're so happy we chose him to provide the music for our wedding!
My fiancé and I were unable to travel to Hawaii for our wedding because of Covid and sadly we lost everything. Our wedding venue (Loulu Palm) would not refund a single penny of what we had paid and we paid in full. After postponing our wedding we are in the exact same boat again. David came highly recommended to us and we were very happy to work with him. I have to say how kind and professional he was to communicate with, and unlike a single one of my other vendors, he refunded our deposit no questions asked. We had been saving for our dream wedding in Hawaii for so long and this act of kindness in David’s part meant so much to us. Thank you so much for your generosity David! Based of this alone I can tell you he is different from others in the industry and I highly recommend him.
David is an incredible performer full of Aloha. He was easy to work with from our very first call. He took the time to give me all the information I needed, and offered a competitive price for his services. We hired David for live music at both our ceremony and cocktail hour, and as a DJ for our reception.
His voice is so beautiful and incredible! Our guests told us how they loved hearing him perform live. I'll never forget walking down the aisle to White Sandy Beach or departing as Mr. & Mrs. to Over the Rainbow. He also continued to play music during some of our photos and marriage license signing- hearing him perform was a dream! I basically told him we wanted Jack Johnson, Beach Boys & local Hawaiian music for cocktail hour, and he nailed it. My only regret is that we couldn't enjoy his live music for more of our cocktail hour (since we were doing photos).
Given the timing of our wedding, and that we were traveling from the east coast, we had a lot of last minute cancellations in our guest list and wedding party, and thus, changes to our intro to reception songs. I was worried about this, but David executed all of the last minute changes well! He kept our guests dancing all night, and he was open to any song requests we thought of through the evening. Lastly, he was very lovely to interact with during our wedding- he definitely brought the aloha vibe. If you want a DJ who can also perform beautiful live music at your wedding then David is your man!
We hired David Asing to perform during guest arrival and our ceremony and he was spectacular! We requested Hawaiian music on the ukulele and all the songs he played were great. He brought his own speaker, mic and necessary cords. Our guests loved hearing him play and sing. It really set the mood for a beautiful Hawaiian day. He was easy to get in touch with and offered song ideas for our ceremony. Payment was a breeze. He showed up on time, was patient with our rain delay and dressed well! We sent him a list and he played exactly what we wanted. I loved walking down the aisle hearing him play "White Sandy Beach!" Mahalo, David!
We used Akahi for to help us supply a fire knife dancer for our 2017 destination wedding on Oahu. Akahi was a recommendation from another stellar vendor. David was super responsive throughout the process with all of the questions that I had.
Even with the crazy wind the night of our wedding, the fire knife dancer was able to go off without a hitch. About a quarter of the guests at our wedding spin poi and every single one of them was crazy impressed with the show. It was a highlight for sure.
Would 100% recommend Akahi to anyone who was looking for wedding entertainment and beyond!
Mahalo nui loa!
David played ukulele for our wedding ceremony / cocktail hour. He arrived on time, dressed well and besides giving him one specific song to play for the ceremony, let him play as he felt would be best and he did a great job. He was also able to provide a battery powered speaker and mic for our outdoor beach ceremony.
We also hired two drummers and a fire dancer through him for our reception. It was POURING when they arrived, but they were able to change what is usually a performance on an outdoor lawn to accommodate the covered pavilion and everyone LOVED it.
The only downside was that the email responses were a little short/slow at times, but everything went perfectly when it came to wedding day.
Booking David and Akahi productions for our wedding was definitely one of the best decisions I ever made. He took care of all the music and entertainment for our wedding and made it really fun and special. We had our wedding at Kualoa Ranch in Kaneohe. David played the ukulele beautifully at the ceremony and then played during our cocktail hour. He has such a lovely singing voice. He then Dj 'd and emceed at our reception playing all the best 80's songs that just brought me back to my highschool and junior high dances. Everyone loved the music. His production company had these great hula dancers perform and everyone enjoyed learning the hula dance. He also had drummers and a wonderful fire dancer perform which was one of the highlights of the reception. Everyone had such a great time and he helped everything run smoothly at the reception. Just wonderful service!! And reasonably priced.
David with Akahi Productions did a great job with our wedding! He asked us what songs we would like for all the big moments to personalize it (first dance, father/daughter, bouquet toss, wedding party intros, etc.) When he asked about music to dance to, I just told him we had a wide variety but to feel the vibe and mix retro with current homages to back in the day style (for example, play "The Temptations" and "Bruno Mars"). With little instruction, he nailed it! Threw in some country, R&B, and big band as well. 50 people who hadn't met each other until that day were out dancing for hours due to his DJing.
He also did an amazing job for the ceremony. He played the guitar and sang live. It was perfect for the view and the outdoor event. He didn't steal the moment. He seamlessly melted into it. It was great. So many guest came up and complimented the live music. David is the DJ you want to make your wedding a little less stressful and very epic!
With the majority of my guests coming from the mainland I wanted to do something a little different for our reception that would give our guests a taste of the islands and my own heritage. We booked 3 Tahitian dancers, a drummer and a Fire Knife dancer. We also booked a slack key guitarist who played and sang for the ceremony. I’ll be honest and say I was so focused and nervous during the ceremony I really didn’t hear or see anyone except Mr. Groom. But I didn’t hear any complaints.
The Polynesian performances were a hit. It was just a nice way to break up the reception and provide programming without it being just a bunch of speeches. They even did a fun thing where they pulled up the bridal party, taught them some moves and had them perform. Of course they pulled us up as well. The Fire Knife dancer was a surprise and also very entertaining for our guests and an awesome photo opp as well.
I found Akahi through my planner and she managed all details and transactions with them so everything worked out just fine from my end.
Our wedding was a destination wedding in Hawaii and mind you I have never been to Hawaii nor do I have any friends or family members there. I literally planned this wedding with a blind eye and faith in my Googling skills. I read good reviews on Akahi productions and was able to listen to all the musicians on their website. My husband and I narrowed our favorite down to David Asing. He was quick to respond to our emails and friendly. Customer service is a big thing for me. It is the deal maker or breaker! I gave him a list of songs we wanted for the ceremony and two of them he had to learn. He did an amazing job with all of the songs.
David is a talented and an amazing musician. Contacting him and booking him for our ceremony and cocktail hour was so easy and stress less, a bride's dream! We got married at the Plantation Estate in Ka'a'awa, Oahu in April 2013. Having David sing was truly amazing. Everyone at the wedding thought he was great and we continue to talk about it to this day. If we did it all over again, we would have David sing! Best decision!
David performed with another guitarist during our outdoor ceremony and the first part of our indoor reception, and DJ'ed the rest. He is a talented musician, very versatile with a sound that worked so well at our wedding. He was also very pleasant to work with, and importantly, able to go with the flow of things and fill in the gaps. He has a great play list that we picked songs off of, and his Elvis rendition of our first dance song was an unexpected but memorable touch! I felt totally at ease having him take care of the music, and add my recommendation to the list of glowing reviews!
We are so thankful we hired David Asing to be our reception musician. He has that youthful, vibrant energy about him. We enjoyed having him play guitar and sing to our guests. One of our guests even sang with him! It was fun.
We used Akahi for both our ceremony music and our surprise fire knife dance for our guests. David was our soloist for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour and did an awesome job. He has a very long song list which was nice. Our guests were thoroughly entertained by the spectacular fire knife dancer. It was great to be able to get both services from one company. They also offer a lot of different options for entertainment, we would recommended them to anyone looking to add a little bit of local flavor to their destination wedding.
David performed during our ceremony, our cocktail hour/dinner and dj'd afterwards. He is very talented and a really nice guy. Very easy to work with, great with communicating both via phone and email. (Being from CA this was very encouraging.) He played all our requests and then some. He was able to read to group and and play music to suit our needs. Absolutely amazing would recommend using him in a heartbeat. Check him out on youtube! Thanks so much for making our day perfect, David.
David Asing performed for our wedding at the Hale Koa hotel. There is not one bad thing that I can say about him. He was the most responsive to any emails out of any of the vendors I hired. He was willing to do anything that we asked him to do. We were concerned that since more than half of the people at our wedding were going to be Japanese and they don't have dancing or bands at reception parties. David made sure that he got everyone involved right away. We hired hula dancers and he invited everyone up to the dance floor to learn how to hula dance. That was just the beginning of what became an amazing night. After the hula dancers he stepped right in to become our DJ and did a wonderful job at that as well. Everyone kept telling me that it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to. The Japanese guests were all saying that they want to have an American style wedding reception. Please do not hesitate to hire David to perform for your wedding. You will definitely not regret it.
I planned my own wedding and music was something I kind of overlooked and then freaked out about at the end. David showed up on time, played ukelele for the ceremony then played guitar for cocktail hour and during dinner.
He is a total hottie, so your bridal party and mother will love him. But he's also an amazing musician. I feel like when I finally got to sit down at dinner I only had time to listen to one or two of his songs but it was just beautiful!
I live on Oahu so I can't imagine what it would be like to plan a destination wedding. That sounds scary to me. I felt like these reviews really helped me. If you can, book David for your wedding. He did an absolutely amazing job.
We had David Asing playing a mix of contemporary and Hawaiian music on his guitar throughout the whole reception. All of our guests loved the music, from the locals to our guests from Europe who had never been to Hawaii before. David was very flexible, kind and a humble guy. He also charges a very, very reasonable rate, which included use of his sound system.
So happy we booked David Asing to perform during our ceremony. We also booked a hula and taihitian dancer as well as a fire knife dancer. David also emcee'd and took care of our ipod reception. He was such a fun guy and did a really great job all night. He did more than what was contracted for and just really made our event even more special. FYI- he is SUPER busy and has a ton of gigs lined up, book him in advance!!!
I wouldn't normally take the time to write reviews, but I can't say enough about Akahi Productions. I'm local and my wife is Japanese. David and his team did our entire wedding: ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner music and DJ. We had a wide range of guests from Japan and the mainland US, young and old, but David was able to work with this and did a good job with the flow of the wedding. He played music that everybody could enjoy. I had a number of guests mention that they'd like to use him for future events. He also provided the projector and screen for our slideshow which was really convenient for us and made things easy. He made sure that all of the equipment was compatible with what we gave him and it made for a seemless wedding with no problems. Thank you Akahi Productions!!
We had a mix of old and young people and he played a mix of music that worked for everyone! Not one person wasn't on the dance floor! He was very friendly and awesome to work with too!! SUPER affordable!!!
We hired David Asing and two hula dancers for our wedding. He's a great performer. The hula dancers were great too.
Akahi productions handled our whole wedding from ceremony, to cocktail hour, polynesian show, and reception. They were beyond amazing. a month after our wedding, our friends and family are still talking about our entertainment. They not only did a wonderful job, but made our wedding a unique experience from any other wedding we have ever been to. I would HIGHLY reccomend them to anyone wanting a flawless and fun wedding day!
David played the guitar and sang before, during and after the ceremony as well as during our dinner. He then switched to dj-ing as we danced the night away. Not only was he professional and easy to work with, David is extremely talented and everyone at our wedding was extremely impressed with his skills. We were so lucky to find David, I couldn't be happier with his performance at our wedding.
When searching for a soloist/guitarist who could sing during my wedding ceremony, I found David Asing from Akahi Productions online. I watched some of his videos on youtube, and immediately knew that was exactly what I was looking for. He was perfect for our ceremony. He arrived early, and began singing as guests arrived, and following the ceremony he continued to sing even as we began to take our pictures. He has extremely talented, and has a beautiful voice. He sang the songs that I had requested, in addition to his own selections that we enjoyed. I hope to watch him perform again in the future when we visit Hawaii again. He really added a special touch to our Hawaiian ceremony, and I'm so happy to found him.
We had a ukelele and guitar duet (Kamuela Kahoano and David Asing) who were really talented. We only had one specific song request which they performed amazingly and the rest of what they chose to play was great and fit perfectly with how we wanted the ceremony to feel. They turned up early and were really nice and friendly. They are both on myspace if you want to check out how talented they are!
