I had such a great experience with Akiyo for my wedding hair and makeup! From the very beginning, she was always polite, professional, and incredibly quick to respond whenever I had questions. She even took the time to video call me to go over everything and gave thoughtful suggestions, which really showed how knowledgeable and experienced she is.
On the wedding day, she made both my bridesmaids and me feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the morning. Even though I didn’t have time to do a trial beforehand, I absolutely loved how my hair and makeup turned out—it was exactly what I was hoping for. She also kept everything running smoothly, and we actually finished ahead of schedule, which made the morning so much less stressful.
I’m so happy I chose Akiyo and would definitely recommend her to any bride looking for someone talented, reliable, and wonderful to work with!

We received so many compliments from guests saying how natural and beautiful the look was. She also took care of the groom's light hair and makeup and it came out great, with his hair secure for the photos as well!
Akiyo is incredibly friendly, professional, and talented. She always responded to my emails promptly, which I really appreciated during the busy wedding planning process. She is also excellent at doing makeup for Asian features. She did my first hair trial exactly as I had requested, and when I decided to change my hairstyle before the wedding, she kindly accommodated a second trial as well. honor, who had Akiyo her big day two years prior to my big day on 09/20/25. I had my pre-wedding trial with Akiyo right after coming back from Cabo San Lucas, and she truly took into account that I had been tanning and not taking care of the canvas she was supposed to be doing a trial on. She listened to what I had in mind along with the hair extensions that I had wanted to use. The trial came out BEAUTIFUL, but we both felt like something was missing. Now granted, I had no idea what I was looking for and Akiyo guided me to looking my very best.
A few days leading to the big day, being the Type A bride I had come up with different looks, totally different from what we had agreed on during the trial. Akiyo, again the exceptional and patient woman that she is, took it all in great stride and said " Let's go for it but let us see what else we can do. If it doesn't look it right we will go another direction." I agreed with her 100% and knew she wouldn't let me down.
The BIG DAY- Akiyo and her team showed up bright and early as communicated and ready to tackle all 9 women (including two young flower girls). Let me tell you something.. Akiyo worked a true miracle on me and I couldn't even believe that I was looking at me. She held my hand when I was so nervous and I thought it was just because my stomach was upset and had nothing to do with getting married. Akiyo was not only my MUA but she had become a true friend that day. She stayed with me until 6pm for touch-ups. I couldn't be more proud of her, her team, and her true artistry.
She is so laid back and her team is just the same. Cool, chic, and very professional. Akiyo is someone you want there for your biggest day.

My updo hairstyle was different than what I had tried during my trial session with Akiyo (which she specially scheduled farther in advance for me because of her vacation). My wedding day hairstyle turned out gorgeous with fresh flowers from our florist - so glad I chose this more elegant style (modern french twist). I don't wear makeup regularly, and I can be quite particular. Akiyo listened to me deeply, respected my wishes while also providing her professional advice when she felt that it aligned with my desired outcomes. She not only helped me find my desired hairstyle and makeup, but she also took the time in brainstorming with me which location to get ready on the day of! I had originally thought that my apartment was too small, but thanks to Akiyo, who clearly listed out what she and her team would minimally need to do their work, we realized that the apartment was a possibility after all. This plan turned out super well, and we were able to save a decent amount of money from not needing to book a hotel suite!
Akiyo and her team are very skilled in their work. My mom and my three bridesmaids, who all wanted different things, were all super happy. It was a fantastic start to my special day.

Unfortunately she's not available on my actual wedding date, but she even gave me tips of Do's/Don'ts for skincare/hair for the weeks leading up to my wedding.
If you haven't already found a hair/make up artist, I definitely recommend reaching out to Akiyo if she's available!! (..and book her fast!)

a good makeup artist that knew how to do Asian hair and makeup. I finally stumbled across Akiyo's instagram page and based off of her posts, knew she was aware of how to do a diverse group of people. I was also happy to find that she knew how to do both hair & makeup so i didn't have to do two different vendors.
She is extremely detail oriented and sent out a form before my bridal trial to get a sense of what I like. She includes strip lashes in her prices but can also do smaller special Japanese lashes for a small additional fee ($20). I asked for natural makeup because I get so worried of looking crazy but she knew exactly what I wanted and made sure i felt comfortable every step of the way. They also used airbrush foundation on my face which I've never done before and found that it made my skin truly look amazing and not cakey. The hair and makeup lasted the entire night and didn't fade or run at all, even after I sobbed at the altar.
Akiyo also has great energy and a wonderful demeanor. She truly means the best and wants you to love it. Her attention to detail is amazing.
She takes zelle or cash for all payments which was very convenient as well. While she is based in Brooklyn, she was accommodating to travel to upstate NY for my wedding for a small travel fee.
You will not regret booking Akiyo - she made me feel so beautiful on my wedding day and hope to book her again for something in the future!

ry preference item I put down in the forms, to what I liked at the trial and didn't. She is fantastic, she was so flexible in our wedding trial, and then wedding day of. We switched our eye color since I was a bit more tan than wedding trial, she NAILED the hair too. Everyone was amazed in our wedding party of how talented Akiyo and her team was. I still can't get over how great I looked - natural but amplified, and MY MAKEUP STAYED ON ALL DAY from 10AM - 2AM (at the after party) still looked amazing.

iyo was so easy to work with and super accommodating of changes and different styles in my group. My mom and MIL aren't used to wearing a lot of makeup, but Akiyo worked with them so well to make sure everyone still felt beautiful and everyone loved their look! It was a great experience.
