I found Akiyo online and am so grateful that we found her. We were prepping for my stepson's wedding and were flying in from overseas for the wedding. Akiyo arrived on time, with the most professional looking gear I had ever seen. It was amazing to watch her get ready to "make us beautiful". She did the makeup for myself and my eldest daughter (15) and the hair for all four of my daughters. We all looked beautiful, and all the girls were thrilled with our hair (no small feat for teenagers!). My eldest received so many compliments on her hair and makeup the whole evening, she was glowing. I cannot thank Akiyo enough for getting us "wedding ready" and for making us all look beautiful. It was a pleasure to work with her! You are fortunate if you are able to book her!

Akiyo is amazing! It's been a pleasure working with her. Everything came out perfect for the wedding. We had to do a couple of trials for hair because I wasn't sure which type of hairstyle would look great on me but on the 2nd trial we were able to find exactly what looked best for my face shape. I am so thankful for how the finished look came out. She remained patient and listened to all my concerns and has been so accommodating throughout the process. Akiyo is so amazing! From when I first contacted her to my wedding day, she was responsive, professional, and kind. We scheduled a trial, and afterwards, I had a few changes I wanted to make; Akiyo understood my vision and executed it to perfection. She was also flexible when a family member of mine wanted to get her makeup and hair done as well the day of. She made me feel so comfortable and made me look exactly how I wanted, staying true to myself. Makeup and hair stayed no problem throughout the day and lots of dancing! I would 100% hire her again!

I unfortunately did not move forward with Akiyo for logistic reasons on my end; otherwise I would have. She was my first choice. She was responsive, very detailed in communication and technique, very patient, polite, and has a great portfolio for both hair and make-up (just look at her instagram).I would highly recommend Akiyo for any bride. Hopefully I will be able to work with her on a different occasion.

Akiyo and her team were very sweet and have amazing talent. We finished our makeup and hair 5 hours before the ceremony with outdoor photos in between but everything stayed intact without requiring any additional touch ups! My bridesmaids updos held up even after dancing and jumping all night! Akiyo worked with my individual needs for my hair in order to perfect the look I was trying to go for. There were changes I requested after the make up trial and Akiyo was able to deliver that on my wedding day. Akiyo is THE BEST!! She and her team did hair and makeup for my wedding - pulling off a wedding day makeover for a bride, 4 bridesmaids, and two Moms was no easy feat! Akiyo was kind, communicative, and attentive the entire time we worked together. After the trial I had made a few small pivots and also needed to make some last minute adjustments for my bridal party, and Akiyo was so flexible and patient in answering every detailed question that I sent her way. My hair and makeup turned out even better than I had imagined it - Akiyo has a knack for hitting the perfect balance between glam and natural styles. I would 100% recommend her services for any wedding or major event!

Akiyo was such a joy to have as a hair and makeup artist for my wedding. From start to finish she was fantastic and flexible! I don't do makeup that often, so during my trial I asked her to do what she felt would look best for my face shape and skin tone. She was very patient with me and open to my preferences as well. A few months after the trial, I asked to change my hair style, and she was very understanding! On the day of, she and her team traveled very early, and were very friendly and professional. She did hair and makeup for me, my mother, and my MIL. Despite not having done a second hair trial for my change request, she nailed it perfectly! She also did a fantastic job with my makeup - I got so many compliments on how she used the makeup to compliment my facial features. My makeup lasted the whole day and night (over15 hours) and even survived me crying during our vows. Akiyo was truly amazing both in personality and in her skills. Love her so much!! Akiyo is an incredible hair and make up artist! I’m so glad we hired her for my brothers wedding. She did the make up for my mom (mother of groom), my sister in law, and me. Each of us have a very different preference when it comes to our hair and make up styles (mom and SIL prefer more subtle make up) and I’m so grateful to have had someone who understood our style and tones so quickly and made everyone look so great! Akiyo was a dream to work with. I had never gotten my makeup done professionally before so I didn't know exactly what I wanted for my wedding day. After rigorous browsing and searching for a hair stylist and make up artist for East Asian skin, I found Akiyo. I do not regularly wear make up or style my hair and Akiyo made me feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful throughout the entire process of achieving a natural look. At the hair and make up trial, she made recommendations, asked for my opinion and my preferences. On the big day, my husband and I had hair and makeup done by Akiyo and everyone loved it. It was money well spent.

Akiyo did a wonderful job with the hair and makeup for my wedding! I love her style and she did a great job with the adjustments I wanted to make since our initial makeup trial. Everything stayed up wonderfully throughout the day and evening and I received a lot of compliments for the natural-look. My mom and mother-in law also loved what she did and wouldn't stop taking photos throughout the day. She arrived promptly and worked very quickly and efficiently throughout the morning and it was comforting to know I was leaving my wedding party in good hands when I needed to leave early.

Akiyo is excellent at creating beautiful looks for east asian brides & women! She is especially great at doing the soft-glam look (more natural than smokey) that's popular amongst east asians. She's also very great at creating elaborate low bun up-dos for longer layered hair.

Akiyo and her team was amazing!! I found her through a friend and I never look elsewhere. I love that she understands Asian features but also works on non-Asian faces. I did a makeup/hair trial with her and decided to make some changes on the wedding day. Akiyo was very accommodating and she will work with you to make sure you like your makeup/hair. It's a major plus that Akiyo also does hair because I didn't have to find another stylist. My hair and makeup stayed perfect all night even after crying multiple time. Even all my bridesmaids loved their makeup! I couldnt recommend Akiyo enough! She deserves everything that is coming her way.

We (My mother ) originally discovered Akiyo through Instagram and her work was flawless. I enjoyed our conversations during our trials and found that she was very open to my creative ideas. Moreover, she was very accommodating when I needed to add 2 more people to my list last minute. Her work was impeccable and although I am unaccustomed to wearing make up, it was very comfortable and natural . My hair also looked great and held up comfortably the whole night.

Akiyo was amazing! My original hair/make up artist cancelled on me days before my engagement shoot and I was worried that I'd have to reschedule my photoshoot altogether. Akiyo responded quickly and was able to step in to help me. I wanted a casual updo that wasn't too overdone and a natural look and Akiyo definitely delivered. Unfortunately she's not available on my actual wedding date, but she even gave me tips of Do's/Don'ts for skincare/hair for the weeks leading up to my wedding. If you haven't already found a hair/make up artist, I definitely recommend reaching out to Akiyo if she's available!! (..and book her fast!)

I cannot rave about Akiyo and her team enough. I have been in many weddings before and no other team was as good as her! I spent hours looking on websites, instagram, etc to find a good makeup artist that knew how to do Asian hair and makeup. I finally stumbled across Akiyo's instagram page and based off of her posts, knew she was aware of how to do a diverse group of people. I was also happy to find that she knew how to do both hair & makeup so i didn't have to do two different vendors. She is extremely detail oriented and sent out a form before my bridal trial to get a sense of what I like. She includes strip lashes in her prices but can also do smaller special Japanese lashes for a small additional fee ($20). I asked for natural makeup because I get so worried of looking crazy but she knew exactly what I wanted and made sure i felt comfortable every step of the way. They also used airbrush foundation on my face which I've never done before and found that it made my skin truly look amazing and not cakey. The hair and makeup lasted the entire night and didn't fade or run at all, even after I sobbed at the altar. Akiyo also has great energy and a wonderful demeanor. She truly means the best and wants you to love it. Her attention to detail is amazing. She takes zelle or cash for all payments which was very convenient as well. While she is based in Brooklyn, she was accommodating to travel to upstate NY for my wedding for a small travel fee. You will not regret booking Akiyo - she made me feel so beautiful on my wedding day and hope to book her again for something in the future!

She is very detail oriented, remembering every preference item I put down in the forms, to what I liked at the trial and didn't. She is fantastic, she was so flexible in our wedding trial, and then wedding day of. We switched our eye color since I was a bit more tan than wedding trial, she NAILED the hair too. Everyone was amazed in our wedding party of how talented Akiyo and her team was. I still can't get over how great I looked - natural but amplified, and MY MAKEUP STAYED ON ALL DAY from 10AM - 2AM (at the after party) still looked amazing. Work with her and her team now!!!

I highly recommend Akiyo for hair & makeup for a wedding or event. My hair & makeup held up all night and I felt beautiful, but still felt like myself which was important to me. Akiyo was so easy to work with and super accommodating of changes and different styles in my group. Akiyo is amazing at her work! I hired Akiyo to do my hair and makeup for my wedding after a disastrous first trial with a different makeup artist. While she was a little pricier than my original budget, I think it's super important for East Asian brides to find a hair & makeup artist who specializes in our features. She had crystal clear communication about prices and services and most importantly, impeccable work. I felt beautiful and my makeup/hair did not budge all day even though I cried happy tears throughout my wedding. In addition to my bridal services, I also tacked on 13 more services for my bridal party and moms and she brought 2 additional artists with her to get everything done within the 4-hour timeline we agreed on. I cannot recommend her more!

Akiyo did my wedding makeup and hair for my special day! I got the makeup&hair package for me, my sister-in-law, and my mother-in-law. I love my makeup and hair a lot. Did lots of awesome wedding photos, and all of them looks great! Akiyo was doing what exactly I expected, NATURAL~~! I have dry skin, and I sweated a lot when I was dancing during the reception dinner. At end of night, no makeup breakup at all! It stayed as it was when I just finished my makeup and hair :))) Not saying that, Akiyo was super friendly and patient. My mother-in-law does not apply any makeup at all, and Akiyo was very patient to explain steps and makeup tips to her ( which I appreciated it a lot), made her very comfortable and happy! My sister-in-law showed her the hair and makeup she liked when she got married. Akiyo did a good job that makes my sister-in-law looked exactly like in her wedding photo! ABSOLUTELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Akiyo did my hair and makeup for my elopement at the Manhattan Marriage Bureau. When I contacted Akiyo, she was immediately responsive and gave me all the information: price, address, timing (at least 3 hours for bride). She suggested a trial, but because I live in DC, we had to skip it. I sent her photos in advance of my face without makeup and my hair the way that I wanted it done. When I arrived on my wedding day, she had clearly looked at the photos and remembered everything that I was looking for. She did a really phenomenal job on making the makeup look natural. We had a photographer with us for the day, and he was really impressed by the hair and makeup (he would definitely know better than me). Akiyo was also a lovely person to talk to for the three hours that I spent at her apartment very early in the morning. I highly recommend! I could not have had a better experience.

I never wear makeup and I was so nervous about the wedding, but Akiyo is so professional and friendly that she made my wedding wonderful. Akiyo was able to create a schedule for my wedding party, including 7 different services for 4 people, in addition to my bridal makeup and hair. She arrived at my home in Queens from Brooklyn by 6 AM and everything was on time for our 11:30 AM ceremony. Not only that but everyone was gorgeous! Akiyo and her team are amazing.

Akiyo is amazing! She's extremely professional, calm and adaptable to the environment. She's transparent about the process and made it easy to share inspiration by being organized from the beginning. We had a pretty small hotel room, and she made sure we had the right setup before arriving and was able to make it work. She also did my mom and sister-in-law's makeup and hair—both turned out really beautifully! She understood what we all wanted and was a great communicator—she asked the right questions when we weren't as clear. I haven't done this level of makeup before—I asked for a natural bride look, and Akiyo did a perfect job! Both my hair and makeup stayed beautifully through the whole day through some tears and a little sweating :) She's extremely attentive and flexible to feedback and addresses concerns in a calm way—my mom ended up wanting less foundation, and Akiyo was supportive and flexible even though it added a little more time. My hair was also slightly different from what I tried at the trial, and Akiyo adapted to my requests seamlessly! She's also just super friendly and easy to talk to which helps when you're a little nervous the day of. I highly recommend Akiyo and have already referred her to a friend who's starting to look!

Akiyo and her team were absolutely wonderful! I had my makeup trial 6 months apart from the wedding but Akiyo reviewed all the photos beforehand and still came prepared. During my trial, I think my hair was a little difficult to work with for what I wanted... it was super long and heavy for an updo. But I asked Akiyo how I should cut my hair for the month of my wedding and she gave me perfect instructions. When we redid the style for the morning of my wedding, it was absolutely perfect! EXACTLY what I wanted!! My makeup was perfect too! And the whole look stayed all night! The rest of Akiyo's team was amazing too! We had 2 more stylists working on my 4 bridesmaids and 2 mothers. Everyone looked so amazing and my guests are still talking about how stunning everyone looked. Above all, Akiyo is just so sweet and polite, truly a lovely person. Thank you for everything!!

Akiyo was amazing from day 1. She was super quick to respond to my initial inquiry and continued to do so throughout the process. Despite my many questions and vague timeline, she was thorough, flexible, and personable. I am glad we got to do a trial together because we got to talk about my preferences and her recommendations. It all worked out wonderfully, and I really liked what Akiyo did for me the day of! I don't usually wear a lot of makeup, so I was a bit nervous about how I'd feel and look. She gave me a natural look, and I barely felt anything on my face :) Really appreciate the attention and care that she gave me throughout the process from planning to trial to the day itself. 10/10 recommend

I’m thrilled I got to work with Akiyo! She is super talented and gives you the perfect glowy, long lasting, but natural look. I changed my hairstyle from my trial and she video chatted with me before my wedding day to ensure a seamless process. On the day of, I trusted her to do whatever she thought was best and I was blown away by the results. My hair and makeup lasted all night long with no touchups! She also did my 7 bridesmaids, my MIL, and my mom’s hair and makeup as well. Everyone loved their looks and some of my most particular bridesmaids said that this is the first time they’ve actually liked their makeup done! Highly recommend her!

I am so glad Akiyo did my hair and make-up for my wedding. She made it easy for me to share my inspiration, references, and goals for my look, both in writing and through a video call prior to the big day (I opted not to do a trial session). I wanted a "natural" look (which, I know, can mean so many different things to different people), but it was really helpful that Akiyo had a range of different interpretations of "natural" on her own Instagram account, ranging from other brides to fashion photoshoots. When we spoke, I also felt she listened with care and understanding and really made sure to get aligned with my vision for a natural, bohemian, soft, romantic, matte look. On the day of, Akiyo arrived early (at the crack of dawn, 6:30am), and we stuck to the schedule we'd set out beforehand. She was efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly, and as someone with skin concerns like acne and combination oily/dry skin, I felt very well taken care of and confident about my coverage, while not feeling super heavy or caked on with make-up. I also LOVED what she did with my hair, playing into my hair's natural volume, doing a beautiful half-up-do with braids and curls, and incorporating a last-minute "tiara" accessory that was really a necklace. By the end of the long day and night (I got my make-up done at 8am), I was pleasantly surprised to see that my make-up and hair had survived the cold (30 degrees), the wind, the tears, and the dancing. And it all came off really easily with my True Botanicals make-up remover. All in all, I'm really glad I booked Akiyo! The last thing I'll note is that I'm Korean, and the women I invited to have their make-up done by Akiyo were either Korean or white American, and Akiyo very gracefully handled all our looks, including looks for moms in their 60s who wanted very subtle, light looks. We all felt great!

Akiyo is incredible! You will not go wrong hiring her. First of all, she's super quick reply and very patient. Second, what really stood out to me is that when I booked with her, she had a few forms for me to fill out ahead of time,so that she could get a sense of what I liked about my makeup and hair when it was done before, and what I want to do for my wedding. She gave me feedback and guided me on what I could expect given my hair is very long. The day of, she was right on time, so prepared, had on her phone what I had referenced before, and super fun to chat with. My makeup and hair were INCREDIBLE. I mean honestly, I couldn't get over it. I would hire her again in an absolute heartbeat and whenever my friends get married, I will definitely recommend her.

I booked Akiyo to do my (and my mom's, MIL's, and sister's) hair and makeup for my wedding. She was easy to work with and understood exactly what each of us were looking for - natural and not heavy on the makeup. She is great to communicate with (hours spent getting our hair and makeup done felt like it flew by) and super responsive (she answered all of my questions throughout the planning process quickly). She was great in helping with the timing of getting everything done - which meant that I got to sleep in a little more on my super long big day! I found several, but Akiyo stood out in her portfolio on her website. I feel in love with the hair and makeup she did for previous clients. Super professional and worth every penny. My entire bridal crew loved her, we had a mix of different types of hair and Akiyo and her colleagues knew exactly how to highlight each feature. Akiyo did my bridal hair and make up last Friday, January 14th. I was looking for a stylist in Brooklyn and found Akiyo through amazing reviews online. I liked her hair and make up work on her clients posted in Instagram too. It was so easy to communicate with Akiyo and book my appointment. She replies promptly and provides detailed suggestions on preparations before the big day. I provided her sample hair styles for the low updo I wanted and also the natural mauve look for the make up. You have the option to book a trial hair and make up session too. My mother and several other guests complemented my make up and how natural (not cakey) it looked. Akiyo used an air brush technique for the foundation, highlights and bronzer… so happy with how it turned out. Will definitely book with Akiyo again in the future… Thanks Akiyo!🙂

I had Akiyo do my makeup and hair for my wedding day and it came out beautifully! Everyone kept commenting on how stunning and beautiful I looked. She has a warm, personable, sunny disposition that made the whole experience that much more pleasant. Her work is impeccable and I could not have been happier with the results. She cares and takes the time to listen about how you imagine you would look on your big day. As I was running out of the door, she was right behind me pinning a few loose strands up. Akiyo and her assistant are true professionals! Truly amazing and excellent work!! I would highly recommend her to anyone interested in getting their makeup and hair done for their wedding and/or any big events :D

Akiyo exceeded my expectations with her professionalism, kindness, patience, and high quality of service. She listened to what I wanted to achieve in terms of the hairstyle and makeup for my wedding. Before the wedding, we communicated through email and she was highly responsive and offered helpful suggestions. I was transparent that I hardly wear any makeup regularly and have limited knowledge about makeup. I was happy that we both worked together to find the best style that suited me during the trial. On the wedding day, she was able to complete the service within a tight time frame without sacrificing her quality of service, which was very impressive! Akiyo also went above and beyond with my hair by styling it and utilizing hair accessories to achieve that beautiful "bridal" look. Akiyo and her assistant (Tomomi) made me and my family & friends look absolutely stunning. After an issue with my original hair/makeup artist, I felt so lucky that I was able to find her. Akiyo spent over an hour with me talking through the schedule for the day of, and took the care to make sure that we had enough time for everything to be properly done. She also really took her time with me during the hair trial until we found a style that I liked. I am so SO grateful that I worked with her for the wedding.

Akiyo did an amazing job on my hair and makeup for my wedding! I showed her inspiration photos and she completely understood my vision and nailed it on my hair and make up! I also requested a second attendent for make up only for my bridal party and everyone loved how their make up came out! My wedding was postponed due to COVID and Akiyo was super understanding with the changes that were made. She is very responsive does her best to accomdate our needs. I had a last minute request to add a third attendent to do my sister's make up and she was able to coordinate my request. Akiyo and her team are amazing!!

Akiyo was amazing on my wedding day. She and another makeup artist did makeup for me and some of my bridesmaids. She was able to get my hair and makeup done on time even though I was almost 30 minutes late to our scheduled appointment. She listens to your preferences and has suggestions ready for you. She was very nice and professional, highly recommend!

Akiyo did an amazing job with my hair and makeup and with my bridesmaids. As someone who doesn't wear a lot of makeup ever, the makeup looked natural and glamorous! She was even mindful to make sure I was comfortable with the fake eyelashes! Her pricing is reasonable and she was easy to book for the trial. Akiyo is GREAT! She was able to squeeze me in on short notice for hair/makeup for my maternity shoot. She was very easy and pleasant to work with and I appreciated that she kept me updated on her arrival time. Akiyo did hair and makeup for me and my mother for my wedding. Akiyo was excellent from initial contact, to hair and makeup trial, to the day-of experience. Her communication was prompt, she was responsive to my comments, and she made me feel at ease. I highly recommend getting a trial for hair and makeup before the day-of. I went to her Brooklyn apartment, which was very comfortable and professional. I did not bring in a photo, and do not usually wear makeup, but Akiyo understood my preferences and created a look that was breathtaking. On the day of the wedding, she was arrived on time with everything she needed, and worked with the photographer and videographer for cool getting-ready shots. She also understood my mother (who does not speak perfect English) and made her look amazing too. Akiyo is also an accomplished surfer, snowboarder and rock climber. I met her through climbing and it was great to talk to about our shared interests on a stressful day.

I used Akiyo Hair & Makeup for my wedding last month. Akiyo did my hair, my sister's hair, and my mom's hair and we all LOVED our hairstyles. I showed Akiyo a photo of the look I was interested in and she was able to capture the style I wanted perfectly. I honestly could not have asked for any better! I can’t say enough about Akiyo and how incredible she is. My original makeup artist for my wedding cancelled on me a month before my wedding and I was referred to Akiyo by my maid of honor. Akiyo was incredibly accommodating and so knowledgeable about what would work well for my skin type and my dress. I got her services for my mom and I and y’all, we looked effing INCREDIBLE. We went to her studio for our trial service and it is so cozy and comfortable. Akiyo makes sure that whatever vision you have in mind is recreated on your face almost exactly. I looked better than any of the reference pictures I brought! The day of I felt so incredibly beautiful. It was my mother’s first time ever having professional makeup done for a special event; she was over the moon with how she looked! The makeup not only stayed on our faces the whole night, but the products Akiyo used were so light and airy that neither of us felt like we had anything caked on our skin. On top of that, I didn’t need a single touch up - the longevity of my face was unreal. By the end of the night I still looked so fresh. She offers the option to buy mink lashes ahead of the wedding which I would seriously advise purchasing - those lashes won’t move a nanometer once Akiyo gets them on, and you can’t even feel them. I can’t fish enough about Akiyo, I have spread her reference to anybody that will listen to me. I hope y’all listen to me too, she’s the bomb!!

Akiyo did both hair and makeup for my wedding and she was amazing to work with. After showing her pictures of what I liked, she was able to adjust those pictures to what she thought would suit me best. I booked her before the pandemic, and even though we had to postpone the wedding a year, she was very responsive anytime I contacted her. On the day of the wedding, Akiyo brought an assistant and both of them were really efficient and did an amazing job. My bridesmaids and mother-in-law were all happy with their makeup and hair too. I would definitely recommend working with Akiyo - she is very talented and easy to work with!

Funny enough, I had experience getting my hair and makeup from Akiyo before my wedding day. She did the hair and makeup for my sister’s wedding a few years ago so I knew that her hair and makeup would last all day and all night AND look good. I was thrilled to find out that Akiyo was available for hair and makeup on my wedding day. She was a dream to work with and I loved that during the entire process, she would listen carefully and adjust based on our preferences for hair and makeup, and make sure it worked for the texture of our hair or our skin tone. She really knows her makeup inside and out and was able to use that knowledge to make us look our very best and have it last all night. It was a hot summer city wedding in a venue with no AC. My hair and makeup stayed intact the entire night. She was flexible with me adding more services as I got closer to the date and throughout the whole process. I would definitely book her again for any future events where I needed hair and makeup done.

I got married last year during COVID and even though it was a small and intimate wedding, Akiyo and her team made it extra special. My sister, two moms, and myself got our hair and makeup done. Akiyo was so meticulous with my makeup and hair. I only had a general idea of what I wanted (something natural, but still glam), but I didn't expect Akiyo to deliver it so perfectly! I was really happy with the results. My makeup stayed on perfectly on that sunny day of July. They were very professional, punctual, and kind.

I booked Akiyo for my wedding hair and makeup after searching for an artist who could work well with Asian hair and facial features. I'm not a huge hair and makeup person so it was so great to be able to find an artist who made me feel special, without being overly done. After several not-so-great trials with many other artists, I was very happy with Akiyo. Even before my trial, we had extensive communication about my normal hair and makeup preferences and she made sure to incorporate my preferences in my final look. She was very careful about my look and our trial was several hours long because of her meticulousness and frequent adjustments to make sure that I was 100% happy and comfortable with my look. She was also extremely easy to work with; we chatted a lot about her hobbies (including surfing) and she was not judgmental at all about my beauty preferences. Unfortunately because of the pandemic, my wedding has now been cancelled. Akiyo has also been very accommodating and easy to communicate with. I will be using Akiyo's services for any future events that I have. Definitely recommend!

I was in the process of looking for a hair & makeup artist for my wedding day and am so grateful that I came across Akiyo. Not only is she a talented and amazing makeup artist, she's also super sweet and fun to work it. She made the whole process easy for me and was very punctual and professional throughout the entire time. I booked her for both a makeup trial and wedding day hair & makeup and I'm so glad I did. Akiyo was very responsive and flexible when I was scheduling for my makeup trial appointment and was even willing to travel all the way to Brooklyn for me. A lot of other makeup artists that my friends have used for their big day rushed through the makeup trial part, But not Akiyo. She took her time in perfecting my makeup and hair to how I wanted it as if it was my actual wedding day and made sure I liked the end result. Akiyo went above and beyond just for my makeup trial, so I knew what to expect for my big day. Akiyo exceeded my expectations on the day of my wedding. She was at the venue about half an hour earlier than expected just to set up and did such an incredible job on my makeup. I told her I wanted to look glam but at the same time still look like me, so more on the natural side but not. If you ladies know what I mean. Akiyo totally nailed it. My makeup was so beautiful and "natural looking" that I couldn't stop beaming. All my bridesmaids loved my makeup and everyone at the venue was complimenting me. Akiyo did a really amazing job on bringing out my "Asian eyes" and the makeup lasted pretty well the entire night with just one touchup. So to sum up everything, I highly recommend Akiyo to any brides-to-be and/or anyone looking for a hair & makeup artist. I cannot say enough good things about her. She is super talented and so easy going that you will not regret booking her!

I'm lucky to have booked Akiyo less than two months before my wedding. With Asian features, I've never been able to apply makeup well on myself (eyeliner smudges between my creases and transfers below my eyes). I didn't trust other artists for fear that they'd make me look like a clown. During the trial, Akiyo understood that I wanted a natural look. She gave me several updos before I landed on a style. After seeing her work, I immediately knew that I wanted to book her. On the wedding day, she came 15 minutes early (I think it was 5:45 AM??). She made me look even better than the trial. I didn't even have to reapply lip color or blot my face. My husband was smitten, and the compliments didn't stop all day. The only issue I had was that one false eyelash got a little loose in the corner (I suspect it was due to my hooded eyelid), but I pushed it back onto my eye and managed fine in my 9-hour day. My hair is slippery and heavy, but my updo didn't budge. Akiyo also turned my matron of honor's bob into an updo! Akiyo's pricing is fair for a New York-based artist. She includes airbrush and false eyelashes (typically a surcharge). My venue was two hours away from her home, and the travel fee was only the tolls. Most other artists would have charged a couple hundred more or required a hotel room. Communication with Akiyo is great. She is reliable and responds to messages in a timely manner. She also does well when you show her pictures of styles you like. The pictures in her portfolio are only a small sampling of what she can do!

Akiyo is an amazing hair and makeup artist! She did my hair and makeup for my wedding and I could not have been any happier. She was extremely flexible, accommodating and easy to get along with. She did my hair and makeup exactly how I wanted. She went back and fixed and made sure I felt comfortable with everything she was doing. She’s an amazing hair & makeup artist. I'm glad I was able to find her for my wedding. I showed her a few hairstyle options that I like and she nailed it. For my makeup, she asked questions at my trial to make sure she understood what styles I'd be interested in and also gave me advice on what we should consider if the wedding would be taking place outside and if the weather would be good or bad. I love how detailed she is as well. I'd suggest her if you are looking for a fantastic hair stylist. You won't regret it!

Akiyo is the best! I highly recommend her! I had a horrible makeup trial with local vendor in CT that I had initially booked a year prior, but had held off on doing the trial. The local vendor really was not good at doing Asian makeup. I was so lucky to find Akiyo 6 weeks before my wedding. Akiyo is not only highly talented, she is also truly passionate about her work. I really love Akiyo's work ethics. She is always highly prepared and is as a perfectionist who will not stop until everyone is happy with their look. She had me send her pictures of myself with my everyday look and with more make up on and pictures of the wedding looks I liked before my hair and makeup trial. On the day of trial, she came out to my mom's house in the Bronx and with minimal direction, she was able to give me the Asian bridal look I was looking for. For the wedding day, she and her assistant came out to New Haven, CT and charged a very reasonable travel fee. She made my hair and makeup was even more beautiful on the actual wedding day. Her assistant did my bridal party's makeup. Akiyo did everyone's hair and then did make up touch up for everyone. My mom, aunt, bridesmaids all loved their look and finished on time. Her hair styling is superb. Of all the times I had my hair professionally done, hers was the best. Not only beautiful, but it held together not a single stray hair even with all the spins and quick turns that I did for my wedding dance.
