The space fit our vibe perfectly! We loved holding our wedding ceremony and reception here!! It is a perfect balance of a rustic barn with all the amenities of being located within...
the city. I was very skeptical about not being able to see/feel the roads and office buildings surrounding the venue but you really do not notice them at all during the event. We had guests inside and outside all night and no one felt like they were in the middle of Kansas City. The only thing to be aware of is that it is a historic building so major things cannot be changed. We had torrential rains the morning of the wedding and for a while, there was a small lake and river running through part of the barn. Nothing that could be done and our coordinator was amazing, she managed to have it completely dry before any guests arrived. Just something to be aware of if you are not the go with the flow type!
The Barn is an amazing venue. We had our wedding reception at the barn and couldn’t have been more happy. Money does matter and the price of the barn was very reasonable. The staff...
were great to work with. They have great customer service!
The barn is easily accessible and easily decorated. You honestly don’t need much because of it’s characteristics.
Lastly, we used “Party up & down KC” as our wedding coordinator and they are very experienced with this venue. Highly recommend this combination.
We loved having our wedding here! The price is for the barn itself and tables, nothing more.. but with some smart DIY, it ended up being very reasonable. Its rustic, has the abilit...
y to do an outdoor ceremony on site, and just the right amount of space for 100-125 people. You can bring in your own food and alcohol as well. If you do book here, I highly recommend using Arlisa from Party Up and Down KC. She helped make everything run so smoothly and provided a ton of decorations for us! Having her made a huge difference with everything!
Alexander Majors House & Barn was the first and only venue we looked at, and we LOVED it. If you are a DIY, crafty, imaginative bride, this is your venue. The barn was a blank spac...
e for us to make into whatever we wanted. Our wedding was minimal and beautiful.
The barn was ample space for our 100 guests to come in and get food & drinks. The property of the space is gorgeous for a summer wedding. Our ceremony was held on the lawn with the Majors Mansion being the backdrop of our wedding. The picnic tables on the lawn was where we chose to eat together for our first family meal. We were able to rent the Majors House Museum for 1 hour for guests to take tours of while we did pictures (received a lot of compliments for this activity) The bridal suite was prefect for myself and 3 other girls to get ready in the morning. There was plenty of space for us to mingle while we had hair and make-up done. Everyone praised how simple and elegant the space was.
The employees of the barn are very hands off, but upfront about their role in your day. When we asked what their role was, it was to open the space for us that day and lock it up. And they were on time, which was their only responsibility. We hired a day of coordinator (Party Up & Down KC) which was the best money we spent for our wedding. Also, another perk is the money we spent to rent the venue goes towards the museum and it's continued growth as a Kansas City Historic Site.
This space is affordable, comfortable, rustic and elegant. I would get married her again in a heartbeat!
NIGHTMARE VENUE! Rudest employees ever!!! Made my experience miserable! Super unprofessional and untrustworthy in every way. I booked here because I wanted to save a little money a...
nd had experience in event planning so I thought I would be able to handle the extra work required for a venue that only offers the space and no other amenities. Booking this venue was one of my biggest regrets! You are better off paying twice the price elsewhere! Didn't even end up saving that much money after everything I had rent or services hired. A friend rented this place out for a smaller event after my wedding and experienced the same difficulties like barn employee not showing up for set up. At both of our events we were not given the time promised for set up and had to set up in a panicked rush. Don't ruin your big day with this nightmare venue!
This is a totally diy venue, but a gorgeous one! Everything came together in the end, but we got married on a Sunday which means that tours were going on off the house museum. It w...
as an "understandable bummer" that the woman who ran the place kept on locking us out during the tours of the house, but really it was a great place. (I think my officiant and other attendants were more offended than I was, and hey - it's a museum! They're allowed to go on tours. Bummer that it was during the wedding, but hey, what are you gonna do?) Make sure you partner with Arlisa Grayson, the recommended wedding coordinator - she's done over 200 weddings there! If you're super chill, I recommend this historical place.
This was a beautiful place to have our reception.
Alexander Majors Barn is a great location for a small or medium sized wedding. The barn is a perfect space for a rustic themed wedding, plus there is plenty of outdoor space for we...
dding activities! The barn is basically a do-it-yourself venue. They do provide tables and chairs... but that's about it. This is a great characteristic if you want to pick out all your own food, decor, DJs, etc. I would highly suggest Party Up and Down KC to assist you if you rent the Barn. They were SO helpful in coordinating everything at the wedding, including set up and tear down... it made my life so much easier not to have to worry about that stuff!
Don't get married here. It's cheaper than other venues, but they kept our deposit for no reason so it made up for it. The event attendant did literally nothing but sit in her offic...
e when she was supposed to be helping us throughout the evening. She was incredibly rude to us and our guests. They said she'd never had a complaint about her, which I find odd because she wouldn't even shake my wife's hand when she arrived. She hated us from the get-go so it's sad but it could have been because we are gay.
This space was exactly what we were looking for. At half the cost of most venues we looked at! The space is large and versatile, with fun add-ons like a wagon room (where we held...
the actual ceremony) and two hours' time in the house and forge where we took gorgeous, memorable wedding portraits. We brought in our own tables and chairs, but there are some available that would work for anyone who'd prefer not to rent. Liz was a great communicator, and there was a day-of liason present in case we had any questions or problems. The space is perfect for brides with a DIY bent, as it lends a rustic framework for anything you can fit within its walls. Our guests were stunned!
I am so glad we found and used the barn at the Alexander Majors house! It was the perfect setting for our reception. The staff was wonderful to work with, it was in the perfect loc...
ation for our guests to travel from the church to the reception and was the perfect size for our dinner and lawn games reception. It made for the perfect day! I would recommend this as a venue choice in a heartbeat!!
We had the place for both our wedding and reception (we only had about 100 guests) and it was great. We had a couple of logistical problems with the set up, but that was just how ...
WE set it up. We didn't think things through clearly. We had pretty much free reign of the barn and was allowed to set up how we wanted as long as we didn't block and doors and cleaned up at the end of the night, perfect for us!
This was a great place to do my rustic wedding! The only problem I had was them not telling me the rules about candles or moving furniture into a room I was going to use for seatin...
g at the last minute. A security guard shows up and just walks around, but is friendly once spoken to.
The setting was beautiful and you can bring anything in from catering to your own beer. Just if you think they may have a problem with something ask them because they dont just come out and tell you.
Overall a great place cause I am guessing that most places are much more strict.
