We loved every part of our experience with the Abington Art Center! From the initial tour to our wedding ceremony, Payton went above and beyond to make sure every single detail was perfect. The building and grounds are stunning- there are so many locations to choose from (inside and outside!) for your event.
Payton, the Private Events Coordinator, was integral in helping us ensure our wedding was a success! When we weren't sure where to turn for wedding insurance, she made a recommendation. When we wanted to use a caterer they'd never worked with before, she was very patient. When we had last minute questions/needs, she was available. Beyond Payton, the Alverthrope Manor/Abington Art Center was such a wonderful, special, and unique place to have our wedding. We recommend it for folks looking for a more intimate wedding venue with the added flare of local art and nature.
We got married in June at Alverthorpe Manor, and everything was beautiful! The venue offered many wonderful and unique spaces to celebrate from the ceremony on the lawn, to the cocktail hour in the museum and dinner and dancing under the covered pavilion. We worked with Payton leading up to the wedding. She was flexible, responsive and able to provide assistance when needed. We love that we chose Alverthorpe Manor for our big day!
Beautiful venue with lots of flexible spaces, quite affordable, and easy to work with. Event coordinator Payton is the best! We are so glad we got married here last month <3
I got married at Abington Art Center (AKA Alverthorpe Manor) in March 2024 and had a fabulous experience.
I worked most closely with Payton Smith on planning the event and she was very responsive and patient answering all my questions. The venue is so unique since it's a community art space and the art work displayed changes throughout the year. The space offers a rich variety of inside/outside ceremony opportunities. We got married outside in the sculpture garden underneath a beautiful gold frame. Our reception was underneath the covered pavilion and was a way to make our COVID-cautious guests feel welcome since there was some air flow. They had plenty of furniture and heaters for our needs which made the space super comfortable and cut down on the work I had to do to book vendors. The venue really does not need a lot of extra decorations which is what we wanted. Our pictures are so varied and gorgeous. I was also blown away by Karen Spire, one of their preferred caterers-she allowed us to do whatever we wanted in terms of appetizers and dinner which allowed us to express our foodie-selves and everyone raved about the food.
I would highly recommend booking Alverthorpe Manor for your celebration!
We hosted a wedding celebration in April 2024 at Alverthorpe Manor. Our coordinator made sure everything was just perfect. It was extraordinary and exactly how we wanted the event to run and without any glitches! So many guests commented how lovely the venue was and that they did not know that Alverthorpe Manor existed. It’s not often that you are surrounded by an art exhibit and delicious food. We would definitely host another wedding or a party here again!
I hosted my Wedding at Abington Art Center this fall and could not be more thrilled with my experience. From booking to the day of, the staff was reliable and truly helped us realize our vision. The facility is so beautiful and it felt great to support a non-profit art center with our Wedding. I would recommend Alverthorpe Manor for a couple looking for a creative alternative event space and to support a good cause!!
We wanted something different for our wedding ceremony and we could not have picked a better location! The Managers at Alverthorpe from Joshua’s Catering are so responsive and communicative. The grounds are insanely beautiful. The photo opportunities are unmatched here! We did not have to go crazy for décor, we got married under the pavilion and the backdrop in of itself is so pretty. They set up the chairs you would just need a decorator for any ancillary items. If you are looking for a ceremony location, I would highly recommend Alverthorpe Manor!
I can not say enough amazing things about this venue. I would have given it 5 stars but the one downside was that I was working with Alana and then she left the company. I then worked with Jen and finally with Kate. The hardest part was Alana and I had discussed things and that were not communicated to Jen when she left. I then had to re-discuss those with her. That was frustrating.
The food was great, the location was great, the bar staff was great. Kate was absolutely amazing to work with and I wish I had just dealt with her the entire time!
We went to the Abington Art Center for an open house and we knew we wanted to get married there. We booked right away. They did have a few turnovers in the year leading up to our wedding. It was pretty smooth and Joshua's Catering ended up managing the property. The venue was perfect and everything was exactly what I wanted!
Update- After writing the review they did reach out to me. There was a misunderstanding. We are currently working on potentially having my wedding there.-------
I went to visit the place to check it out for my wedding and did the tour and it was amazing! Fell in love with it within the first couple of seconds. after the tour i was told that i would be receiving an email with pricing info, etc. Waited a week to give some time for i know it can get busy but i never got it. Emailed again and was told i was going to get it right away and nothing. A month later and i still have not gotten any information. It's really sad because i really wanted to get married there. They have last my business for sure.
My fiancé and I had met with the Sam back in August to view the property to have our wedding ceremony at the location. We met with Sam who showed us around the entire property explaining all the various places we could have our ceremony. She went over the cost and even mentioned that we could decide on the ceremony location two days prior to the event and the backup location would be the pavilion in the case of rain. I spoke with Sam and she addressed my additional questions about the contract and we booked the event. The contract even stated that chairs were included (she verbally told us 150 were included we would have to pay for any additional ones). In November I spoke with Sam again and asked to pay our entire balance of the contract in full even though an additional payment wasn't due until April and the remainder wasn't due until June . I also asked her some additional questions, if I could have a horse and carriage pick us up after our ceremony by the concert area she said that would be perfectly acceptable as long as the horse had a bag for its droppings. Based on our conversations the contract was paid in full months in advance.
I contacted the art center again in March to find out when I could drop off the Arch and backdrop we had purchased and for our ceremony. At this point in time I found out that Sam was no longer employed at the center. When I spoke to the new coordinator Lydia, she had trouble finding the information to our event. Most of this information was on the contract so I'm not sure where the disconnect was. Not only was she not aware of the type of even we were having but she now said that if we wanted our wedding ceremony at the concert location we would have to pay additional fees and rent chairs. If this was the case how could we possibly rent chairs 2 days before our wedding? I informed her that we paid in full and our contract even stated that chairs were included. She said that Sam probably agreed to those terms but they could no longer honor that and that was most likely the reason why she was no longer there. Our wedding was now less than 4 months away we paid our contract in full, how could you change the agreement and charge us more? My finance and I were so upset that this was being communicated after we had spent so much time discussing our event and planning it and now they were no longer willing to honor the contract. . They even told us they weren't willing to honor anything their previous coordinator had agreed to with us. If you misquoted the price and we have a contract how can you change it especially being 4 months away? The worse part was they couldn't even tell us how much more they wanted to have our ceremony outside by the concert. They kept giving us vague amounts for a setup fee, and chair rental fee which apparently they now make you go through a third vender which is all information no one told us about. I even specifically remember asking Sam to see the chairs since we looked at a different site earlier that day and that was one of the reasons we picked this site. In all honestly I would never want to give this center a dollar of our money after the way they treated us. I even had to contact them. What if I never called them would they have dropped this bomb on us a week before our wedding? Luckily I was able to find a new ceremony location that is much more accommodating and organized.
Sam at Abington Art Center helped make our day so special. We had our ceremony held here, and it was super hot out but she had great suggestions to help our guests stay cool. She helped set up a few of our little details for the day of and was very accommodating. I would recommend this venue to anyone!
The space at Abington Art Center is gorgeous and our wedding came out beautifully. 2/3 of the way through our year of planning, the Event Coordinator at the venue changed and we were not pleased with the outcome. She was frequently rude and very unorganized. She would often follow up with me several times and ask the same questions over and over again. She also did not show up for our rehearsal and really had no idea what was going on the day of the wedding. She was extremely unhelpful but we were still thrilled with the way our wedding turned out! I still recommend the venue, just beware of Sam, the event coordinator.
Abington Art Center was the perfect location for our wedding! It was a really beautiful setting at 30-50% of the cost of the other venues we looked at in the area. The outdoor space is fabulous and we took some fun pictures in the sculpture park.
The team there is also great to work with -- Sharon was really professional and has great relationships with all of our vendors, making the day run seamlessly.
We were looking for somewhere different to hold our ceremony and reception and we found it. The Abington Art Center has beautiful grounds that include a sculpture trail and art gallery. This place is great because it has a beautiful setting for outdoor ceremony and just as great rain plan too. I would recommend this place to any couple looking for a different outdoor wedding venue. The staff at the Abington Art Center was a pleasure to work with as well! We did work with an outside caterer which was a separate cost.
Abington Art Center was wonderful! Service and staff were great and all of my guests loved my venue and could not stop saying how beautiful it was. Greta for the price too!
Overall, I would recommend the Art Center for a wedding. The setting is beautiful, and you can have everything in one location. The suggestion I would make to any other brides is to be sure to read and understand your contract before you sign it. Since this is a historical property, and owned by the township, there are restrictions you need to be aware of. For example, there are alot of decor and time restrictions. At the time we signed our contract, I wasn't thinking about lot of the details and assumed it wouldn't be a problem. We were able to work around some of the restrictions in the end, but I wish we had paid closer attention in the beginning. But for the price, you certainly can't beat the location. I toured alot of local venues, and this by far was the nicest in my price range. Another aspect to be aware of is you need to bring in a caterer, the fee you pay is a site fee only to get you the grounds. Our caterer supplied a package that included all the linens, tables, bar etc. But some of the caterers they offer don't. I would strongly recommend going with someone who offers a package deal to make it easier on your planning.
reccemended
Abington Art Center is a beautiful location for any bride and groom interested in an unique, outdoor wedding. It is so different from many other locations and offers plenty of land for your guests to roam, unique art pieces to set the space apart and a beautiful landscape as a backdrop. The staff is also extremely helpful and willing to work with you (and your budget) to achieve the wedding of your dreams. My guests told me that our wedding looked like something straight out of the movies!
