We couldn't have asked for a better venue for our wedding! Lorraine listened to our vision and worked with us every step of the way to bring it to life. She was incredibly accommodating, going above and beyond to ensure every detail was taken care of. The venue itself was stunning and provided the perfect backdrop for our big day. Lorraine and Cheri coordinated all day of details, which made for an extremely smooth and relaxing wedding day. It was worth every penny, and we highly recommend An Affair by the Lake for anyone looking for a beautiful wedding experience!
Firstly, this is the most gorgeous venue I have ever seen. Right by Lake Champlain with an amazing backdrop of the Adirondack mountains! Plus a beautifully restored home that we were able to use as our base-camp.
But perhaps what sets is apart is that Lorraine (the owner) made our experience at An Affair by the Lake so seamless! She helped ensure every detail was followed through on, was so communicative throughout the planning process, and coordinated with our vendors for timing out the day. It made our wedding feel perfectly tailored to our unique "rustic elegant" style. We live in the UK, so having Lorraine to guide us through our timeline and decision making made us feel like we were in the safest of hands.
The day-of was a dream!
In late August, I started planning for a Vermont elopement ceremony for early December, which was just less than 14 weeks before the chosen date. Being from out of state and half way across the country, I decided to do my own research and trust the reviews of others to help us select the venue, photographer and officiant. Because everything was perfect and exceeded all expectations, I wanted to share my experience here as well.
Venue - The venue is so beautiful. I fell in love with the outside
gazebo and my husband was happy that it was on a lake. Lots of area for an outdoor wedding and the house was very spacious, beautiful and lots of places for great pictures. The whole place provides a very comforting vibe where you feel like you are at home.
Lorraine from An Affair by the Lake was amazing! From the very first email, she responded quickly with all of the information and subsequent emails when I had any additional questions. She was very professional, courteous and sincere, which you will feel when she lets you know she wants everything to be exactly as you envision for the day.
Great communication and follow up schedule to confirm details such as cake, music, decorations, etc. She creates a folder so you both can easily add information in one place and not have to search through emails.
Professionalism - Lorraine was wonderful, very kind, respectful an really made it so much fun. She adds so many of her personal touches that make you feel very welcome and at ease before you arrive and especially when you get to the venue. Lorraine provided a variety of restaurants that were in the area and helped us with our "Hallmark wedding in Vermont" by finding someone in the vicinity who could end it with a horse and carriage ride.
Everything here was absolutely perfect and that included the rain that day which was still drizzling during the ceremony. It made for the most incredible pictures with the fog over the lake and the mountains in the background. Sun, rain, snow - all would make for a beautiful wedding location. We were so incredibly happy with Lorraine, the venue and the entire experience while we were there. Would absolutely recommend whether you have 2 people or 200 people. It was the most wonderful time, beautiful scenery, sunsets, calming and peaceful location. . Highly recommend to anyone looking to elope as we did or to have a larger wedding ceremony. When we tell others and they see the pictures, they cannot believe it was all pulled together in a few months with no stress what so ever.
We originally selected An Affair By the Lake because of the gorgeous location, but Lorraine was the real treat! Lorraine answered all of our questions, provided an extremely helpful checklist so we could keep track of all of the things we needed to do before the big day, was extremely responsive, and went out of her way to help us find vendors that met our requirements. Coming from out of state, we were a little overwhelmed trying to get everything organized, but Lorraine made it easy for us. We had booked An Affair By the Lake in early March 2020 before the pandemic began, and ultimately decided to cancel our large wedding and opted for a smaller COVID-friendly ceremony. I am confident that if we had gone through with our original large wedding plan, Lorraine would have ensured the day was beyond perfect for us.
I will start off by saying that the venue is absolutely gorgeous. With the lake, the gazebo, the beautiful cottonwood tree and the barn it is a wonderful place for pictures and to sit and relax. There are also fishing opportunities close by (important to my husband). Working with Lorraine, the owner of the venue, and her daughter was wonderful. From the beginning of planning they keep and eye on everything so once you have booked a vendor, they take over and make sure anything you wanted was done and done on time. They took care of everything! Including a delicious breakfast the day of the wedding so everyone getting ready was fed. There was so much more involved in planning a wedding than I had realized and thanks to them it was perfect and went without a hitch. We could also e-mail them with any question and they always get right back to you. I don't know how they do it but without them I would have been much more stressed and probably would have overlooked a ton of things. The house you stay in is beautiful and full of character and so inviting that it was sad to leave. It is a really excellent venue and I am so glad that we chose to get married there. It was the perfect day, all thanks to them.
Fantastic working with a Lorraine and Cheri. They cooridinated with the Dj, Food service and photographers and were professional, detailed and extremely capable of organizing large wedding parties. The location is unique, on the shores of Champlain, near the Crown Point bridge and the Ny state park across the lake. Highly suggest this place for a wedding!
We took advantage of our ability to use the venue for an entire weekend, and hosted a rehearsal dinner for 50 guests on a Friday evening, and a wedding ceremony and reception dinner for 60 guests on Saturday at An Affair by the Lake. Lorraine and her daughter Cheri were wonderful to work with. They were extremely responsive to all of our questions and requests, and were very helpful in recommending various vendors in the area. Lorraine interfaced with all of the vendors we selected, she took care of ordering all of the items we needed, she arranged for deliveries and was onsite to receive them, and she developed a timeline for the entire weekend. Cheri helped the bridal couple to create a lovely and meaningful ceremony. The venue is located on Lake Champlain with a lovely Victorian house and barn that help to provide a romantic backdrop. The rehearsal dinner was outside. There was plenty of lovely green space to set up the yard games and picnic tables that we provided or rented and we used the Adirondack chairs that come with the house in order to create the event spaces that we wanted. We used the fire pit on site to cook s'mores. The bridesmaids and bride spent Friday night at the house which sleeps 7 or 8. We arranged for stylists from a local salon to come to the house on Saturday morning to provide hair styling and make up services for the bridal party. There is a gazebo right near the lake shore that served as the perfect spot for the officiant and bridal couple. A trio of musicians whom we hired were situated next to the gazebo and played wedding music. The reception was tented, and there was plenty of space on site for the cook tent and portable restrooms. We were blessed with good weather the entire weekend, but we had backup plans in case of inclement weather. All in all, it was an amazing wedding, and we thank Lorraine and Cheri for the wonderful job they did in helping us to make it so.
