Aquinas College was the picture-perfect venue and exceeded my expectations in every way. I grew up in Grand Rapids and never knew just how beautiful the campus is! We were married in the stunning Holmdene Garden and made the short walk across the beautiful campus to the Wege Ballroom for our reception. From day one, Mark and Callie, along with all the other staff at Aquinas, worked with us to plan our dream wedding. We took inspiration from the beautiful brick buildings with the climbing ivy for all the little details. Any questions/concerns were addressed in a timely manner, and Mark and Callie went above and beyond to work with us and our other vendors. I cannot express all of the compliments we received from family, friends, and other vendors on the Aquinas venue and staff. The appetizers and dinner were given high praise by all of our guests! How convenient it was to have everything all in one place. Our guests did not have to drive all over town, and we took all photos on the picturesque campus as well! One of my favorite perks of using this venue was having the historic Holmdene Manor for the rehearsal dinner and to gather and get ready in the day of the wedding. You can't beat the stunning backdrop and beautifully crafted details that truly make Aquinas College one of a kind. I only wish I would not have wasted time and effort looking at other venues when they were the whole package! I am so thankful for the expertise and hard work by Mark and Callie (and their teams), and I could not have been more impressed with all they did! I highly recommend Aquinas College!
Here are some of the beautiful photos our talented photographers (Matt + Abby Photography) captured of our wedding at Aquinas College! http://mattandabby.us/blog-voetberg.php
Aquinas College was the best vendor I could have asked for! First of all, the good food was incredible. Callie did an amazing job and was so helpful to work with. Mark, the event coordinator, was especially fantastic! He took care of every detail, no matter how small. Everything we asked about or needed, he instantly took care of it. We were in very good hands.
We had our wedding reception at the Wege Ballroom at Aquinas College. They had a plethora of dates available when we were planning. Their catering is excellent and had many options for very reasonable prices - our guests LOVED all of their food from the appetizers through the late night meal. The ballroom is big and and essentially a blank slate so you can decorate according to whatever your vision is for your wedding. We highly recommend them!
Mark and Calleen at Aquinas were fantastic to work with. We received multiple compliments through out our reception of how nicely things flowed, how great the food was, and how things were timed during dinner. We absolutely loved the reception site! It was exactly what I had in mind for our big day.
My daughter-in-law and son were married at Aquinas College. The ceremony was held in the beautiful Holmdene Gardens and the reception was a short walk away at the Donnelly Center. We had access to the facility both Friday and Saturday all day. Sarah, the event planner, took care of every last detail, allowing the family to focus on the bride and groom. She handled so many things with ease from coordinating with the hotel, shuttle service, florist and band; to setting up all wedding materials at the reception; to putting up directional signs and posting student volunteers at the college entrances; to packing up and delivering the presents at the end of the night, and so on. We also booked the Holmdene Manor for use the day of the wedding. This was a lovely location for the bridal party to dress and prepare for the ceremony, also providing a place for the family to wait and relax. I would definitely recommend the Manor to others using the Garden. The food provided by the Aquinas chef was excellent and was served efficiently. Many guests mentioned how much they enjoyed the meal. The balcony at Donnelly Center was perfect for a cool summer evening. The wood dance floor was a great location for the band and was filled with guests dancing all night! The Holmdene Gardens and other areas around Aquinas provide beautiful backgrounds for wedding pictures. Our weather was delightful and many guests commented on what a perfect venue this was for a wedding!
I can't say enough good things about working with Aquinas and Calleen (Callie) Continenza for our wedding. The food was amazing and we received so many compliments from our guest. The Wege Ballroom was transformed into the venue I always imagined and the night went so smoothly thanks to Callie and her staff. The value is unbeatable for the venue!
They are great to work with. Andy the Chef creates an amazing food palate!
I had both my wedding and reception at Aquinas college. The Gardens were beautiful for the ceremony and the Wege Ballroom was a lovely reception room. The staff went above and beyond to make everything perfect for our day and everyone raved about how delicious the food was.
We used Wege Ballroom for our reception. The food was fabulous and we have received many compliments. It was the hottest day of the year and my only complaint is that their AC was not as efficient as we were expecting. Employees and staff were great to work with!
Jessica & Callie were great to work with when coordinating all the beginning details, catering and helping answer any and all questions I had right up until the day of. Awesome personalities; great to work with.
Mark was also very helpful when it came to helping us with the details around the space reservations, details for the ceremony, etc.
The reception space (Wege Ballroom) was perfect for us and loved it. The ceremony (Holmdene Gardens) was absolutely beautiful for the day of our wedding. The food -- we never heard a bad comment, everyone was raving about the food all night and we still hear that when someone mentions our wedding.
We were so pleased with our reception location at Aquinas! The campus is gorgeous (great for pictures), the staff was welcoming and friendly, and the space was extremely accommodating. By the day of the wedding, I had no worries at all about the reception - everything went as I hoped and more! The food was excellent (the filet mignon received many compliments from our guests). You have to bring your own alcohol in (from a licensed bartending service) so it helped reduce the cost. Wonderful, wonderful service!!
My dad is an Aquinas Alum and I almost went to college there so I had a little bit of a connection with the site prior to looking into it as a venue. Otherwise, it may have been overlooked in my search. But I am glad that we thought to look in to them because the Wege Center Ballroom ended up being perfect for my reception!
We used the second side room as the bar room and I think that worked out great. It was also where appetizers and late night snacks were and people were able to go there and get away from the music if they wanted, which was great.
We did the Gold Stationed Menu and everyone just loved all of the food that was served. It ended up being slightly pricey but the food was top quality and worth the money. We also had them "order" pizza for a late night snack. We ended up having way too much but the people who were left when it was served raved about it (especially a good idea when everyone's been drinking!).
I gave Aquinas 4 stars in quality because the rooms and second level in general are a little worn and could use a little updating but overall the ballroom is still a beautiful room.
There were just a few things that didn't run as smoothly as I had wished as far as service goes so that's why they got 4 stars for that.
Also, Aquinas has some beautiful grounds in the summer which are great for pictures!
Overall, I was very happy with Aquinas as my reception venue and I would recommend it to anyone!
This may have been the most stressful part of the planning because my Mom and I did not agree on the ceremony music. I didn't care if I just had an iPod playing and my Mom was insisting that I have live singers for the ceremony. I am actually really happy I listened to my Mom on this one. We ended up going through my Aunt to find student singers from Aquinas who did such an INCREDIBLE job at our ceremony. They sang the exact songs I wanted and sounded just as good as the original artists who sing those songs. It was so beautiful, and really added so much to the ceremony. If you need musicians and you aren't sure where to start. You should contact Aquinas to find out if you can hire students there. It was very affordable, and such a nice touch.
I am a Alum of AQ so I paid a fraction of teh venue fee. Also catering literally caters to you so they will work with you on any budget and also will modify or completely recreate something that you really want. The only downside was on the day of we had to wait an half hour for campus safety to unlock the doors:/.
Andrea and Jessica at Aquinas were true professinals in helping plan and execute my wedding. Also, my guests RAVED about the food- we did optional "signature chicken" and "black and blue sirloin" and we were thrilled at how delicious our dinners were...
We had an early wedding with a lunch reception for 250 people and the Wege Ballroom at Aquinas College was a beautiful place to house the festivities. The food was very good (chicken divan and asparagus)and we had requested that the wait staff serve the children their chicken tenders at the same time as the head table so that parents could get their kids fed before the "grown up food" came. They simply asked for the table numbers of where the children would be seated and they did a great job. Everyone was impressed with the service and food. They also allowed us ample time for decorating the night before.
We had our ceremony outside at the Holmdene Garden at Aquinas. Mark was incredible to work with. He handled everything even up to wiping off the chairs prior to the wedding due to the drizzle. I would suggest this to anyone wanting an outdoor wedding in GR. The garden is beautiful and the cost is reasonable.
